@bubblegirl90 we were going to do the cost analysis request but we received the email about the additional scholarships first and didn’t need to do it. One was called a provost development (one time) and the Cathedral one.
@OldCheermomDC --that’s awesome! Were these specific departmental scholarships?
@carachel2 I just revised my comment to list the names of the scholarships. I haven’t looked them up yet to see what they were.
@hailtopitt1787 My son sent in his mid-year grades 3 weeks ago, and we are aware that it typically takes 3-4 weeks for admissions to be reevaluated. He is continually checking email and the myPitt portal. It seems from others on this page that admission offers come via email first. My questions is if he is not admitted how will he be notified? Portal, email or US mail? Thanks so much for your on-going input in this forum, it has been very helpful in the process.
@OldCheermomDC, congrats to your student! It looks like they are both related to diversity.
@PADAD608, Admissions decisions are sent via email or mail, it depends on the specific decision - so it’s not something I can totally predict for you. But with the time frame you have given me, I am guessing you will hear back very soon. Best of luck!

@PADAD608, my decision arrived by mail yesterday with an offer to accept a place on the waitlist for fall with a $300 tuition deposit and a guarantee of spring admission if a spot is not available. I think most main campus fall admission decisions arrive by email. Hope that helps!
@hailtopitt1787 I don’t know if this has been asked before, but if someone is applying for Music (undergrad). It doesn’t look like there’s an audition - is that correct? If no audition, then I would assume it’s the same admission process for the rest of Pitt, and students are judged primarily on academic performance rather than talent. Just want to make sure I have the correct facts. Thanks!
@hailtopitt1787, is too late to submit the merit aid appeal form with competitive offers from other schools?
@desie1, There is no audition, the admission process is the same as it would be for other programs. We admit students to one of four freshman entry schools: Swanson School of Engineering, School of Nursing, College of Business Administration, and Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. With an interest in music, you would be considered for the Dietrich School. If admitted, you would work with your advisor to declare your music major and determine the track that is best for you. More information can be found on the Music Department’s website: http://music.pitt.edu/undergraduate

@hailtopitt1787 So I got a letter today saying I was waitlisted for the fall 2017 semester after they looked at my mid-year grades. What are my options now? If I say I want to stay on the list and don’t get in, am I able to go to a branch campus instead?
@rtsoccer, The options available to you depend on which school you applied to (engineering, nursing, business, or arts and sciences). The letter should outline exactly what your options are.
If you have questions, you are welcome to contact our office. It will be easier to discuss your specific options if we can have a conversation with you and get a little more information: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.

@hailtopitt1787 Is there a daily time deadline by which updates are completed on the portal/by email?
@sudz5nj, We close our office at 5pm, but I am not aware of any other specific daily deadline.

@hailtopitt1787 Thanks for the quick reply! I guess we can stop checking until Monday. Have a great weekend!
My son is accepted into the Honors College and School of Arts and Sciences, intending to do Chemistry/pre-health. Any ideas / points of view on whether he should attend both the Honors Accepted Students Day and Accepted Students Day, or just one of them? Seems like the agendas are slightly different, just weighing whether different enough to invest 2 days. Thanks if any responses!
@wptugs --we are rookies here, but I would think just pick one. They are likely to have very similar agendas. If he wants to “find his people” specifically, then do the Honors Day.
Hope it goes well!
@wptugs
I went to the Honors Day myself, and my brother went to the “normal” tour a few years back. My mother’s opinion between the two? Stark contrast xD. She said her first visit was fairly subpar with my brother(and she’s an alum so there’s that xD), but this year we went and she equated it to being treated as royals, we received two free shirts, free parking, free lunch for BOTH of us, and a free external battery charger by the time we had left!
Think of it this way, Pitt wants Honors kids more than they want “general” admission kids, so that their overall stats raise. With this in mind, it is natural for them to “pull all the strings” for their select events, rather than provide one small “gift” for all applicants.
I personally went to the engineering presentation, but the day went as follows: ~1 hr. discussing honors college and what makes it a good option/student testimonies, then departmental presentations (bioe/cheme for me, you’d be able to watch a presentation on Chem/health if Dietrich’s is set up similarly), then all you can eat lunch, followed by both a lower and upper campus tour to end our day.
If you are driving in from OOS or from further than 30 minutes away, I would highly recommend just going to the Honors day, it will save you money/time!
Have fun! College visitations are a load of fun
Update: I almost forgot! There was a large room available for virtually the entire day at Alumni Hall that had admissions officers and other school representatives that could answer any question you have about programs, majors, scholarships, etc.
Keep checking the portal everybody. I’m a transfer student and was able to pay my deposit on Thursday the 2nd of March. The portal will, at least to my knowledge, update before you receive formal word. Just go to PS Mobile and look at “accept/decline admissions.” Best of luck to all applicants!
My son and I have been on a visit and did not find it subpar. They treated us very well. My son has a 4.0 gpa and has been in all AP classes, but was put on the waiting list. I find it very inacurate that you feel they want more Honor College students. State schools have to take a wide variety of different students.
