****PITT CLASS OF 2021 DECISIONS THREAD****

@BreakfastClub1 and @4beardolls --hope it works out for both of you!

What would be best schools to use for the comparison? Similar in ranking? Public vs. private?

@4beardolls --I have no idea! I would spend some time reading other threads from previous years. Looks like it should be a comparably ranked school and keep in mind that it doesn’t mattered if school X offered $20K and Pitt offered $10K. The bottom line COA is what matters apparently.

I think the net cost for cost analysis is based on tuition, fees, room and board, minus scholarships and grants awarded.

@4beardolls @mommdc You are correct on how to determine the final costs (direct costs less financial aid). For many, the form will show that U of Pitt is cheaper than other comparable schools. In our situation it is approx $4500-5000 more per year. My S top schools are ALL OOS and one is public and one is private (Pitt is OOS, too). His major is CS and both are known for their CS programs. I don’t anticipate a change but it does not hurt to try.

Just an FYI to all previously unconsidered Scholarship applicants: I got an updated Financial Aid today, and I received a 2k University Scholarship, when I originally received nothing! Hopefully more people who fell right below get good news soon too! Quick stats: 31 ACT, 1430 SAT(new), 4.4 gpa, In-state

@carachel2 @4beardolls After Cost Analysis, S received email that he was awarded scholarship of $5000 per yr (maintaining certain gpa, etc.). Letter in mail to follow.

how good CS programs on PITt dIETRICH . can someone throw light at it.

Hello! I’m not sure if anyone will be able to help me with this but I figured I’d ask just in case. I received a work study award and something called the Mulert loan from Pitt, but when I was filling out the cost analysis sheet, there was nowhere to indicate them. Does this just mean that I shouldn’t write them down on the sheet at all?

Loans and work study are not free financial aid like grants and scholarships. Loans have to be paid back with interest and work study income is not available up front, it is earned when working a work study job and getting paychecks during the semester.

So I would call and ask if you are supposed to include them in the cost analysis.

Decision: Rejected From Main, But accepted to Pitt-Johnstown

Sorta excited and disappointed. Excited for the fact that I got into a Pitt Campus, But disappointed that I didn’t get into main, due to the fact that I’m from Florida and all my family lives in downtown Pittsburgh. That would’ve taken some of the cost of my OOS Tuition, But I am still excited to be a Panther!

I know Pitt has rolling admissions. Are there still spaces available for the freshmen class?
How long does it take for a decision?

@Jenner99 I am not discouraging you but I understand that most applied early Fall. With that said, my S did not apply until the end of January and heard back about 10 days later and was accepted into CS on the main campus.

Pitt Greensburg is closer to Pittsburgh than Johnstown, but not close enough to commute.

@WMartin72 what is your major?

@Jenner99 For nursing and engineering I don’t know. But you won’t know unless you try. What school would you be applying to?

@Jenner99, We are still accepting applications for the Fall 2017 freshman class! Once we have your application and supporting materials, it typically takes about 3 weeks for us to get back to you with a decision.

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

@mommdc I was applying to Pitt For Film Studies, but at Johnstown they have me as Humanities.

My D is applying now…a little late. Any hope of money?

@hailtopitt1787 I am surprised Pitt is still accepting/encouraging applications. At this point, wouldn’t it be a disadvantage to those on the waitlist who know Pitt is their first choice and applied early last fall? Not trying be sarcastic - genuinely interested in the answer. It is understandable as it is rolling admission, but it seems there should be some sort of deadline.
