I thought the multiple choice was really hard...

to many Q's

MC was harder than previous years (i had 1994, 1999, and the 2004). FR was easier, way easier. so.... the curve would probably stay the same, i'm guessing.

If anyone wants to predict their score, here are the weights for each section/question (calculated from the percentage weights given in the "At a Glance" section on the back of the free response booklet):

Multiple Choice:

Number of questions right - .25 x number of questions wrong = Raw score
Raw score x 80/75 = MC TOTAL

Free Response:

I don't know exactly how many points each question is worth before it's weighted (we can only speculate that, as in the past, Q1-Q3 are worth 9 points each, Q4 is worth about 15 points (1 point for reactants, 2 points for products, and 2 points for each question? for three questions), and Q5 and Q6 are both worth 8 points). However, after each question is weighted, the distribution for points should be exactly:

Q1: 16 points
Q2: 16 points
Q3: 16 points
Q4 (reactions): 8 points
Q5: 12 points
Q6: 12 points

Add up your scores out of 16, 16, 16, 8, 12, 12 from each of questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, respectively, to get your FREE RESPONSE TOTAL

Add your FREE RESPONSE TOTAL to your MC TOTAL to get your score out of 160 available points in the MC and the free response, split 80/80 between the sections.

To hazard a guess about the curve, I would say anywhere from 100-109 is a 5, while 85-whatever is a 5 is a 4, and, well, look at old curves for reference about 3s, 2s, and...1s.

psat years it was a 67 % curve, hopefull they are more lenient this year cuz its a new format.

i thought mc was easier than the past years tests, but the last frq crushes me,

overall if you thought it was difficult you may want to rethink breathing

what iff you bubbled in 40 questions on the MC but are CONFIDENT that they are right + what if you got like 3 out of 6 FRQs, what score would you get?

would i get a 4? what is the min number of points for a 3, 4 and 5?

40/75 regardless isn't good and if you get 50% on your section II you are pretty much going to max out at a mediocre 3

Nurjahan, see my last post about calculating your score, and refer to old curves (they're on this website somewhere) to estimate what you'll get.

And actually, if nurjahan did indeed get all 40 right, missing none from the other 35, gets 3 FRQs and picks up a few stray points here and there, he can easily push himself up to a 4.

no way i got a 5 i can gauntee that one!

umm 40/75 = about 41 raw points
50% on the frq = 40 points

81 points is about the bare minimum you need to get a 4.

do you think with half and half right on both parts, i did bad & got a 2?

or is 3 guaranteed

Sweet, how did you figure out that point total stuff?

I thought that the MC was harder than it was in previous years. I think I got like seriously 15-20 wrong today. And I didn't study electrochem at all. You could figure most of it out, but I mean, agh. I screwed up part B, but part A should've been ok. Since my teacher's absolutely amazing, I'll feel really bad, like I failed her, if I don't get a 5...

for the 94' exam (which is too long ago) the curve was

99-160 5
76-98 4
49-75 3

since then i believe the bounds have increased by 10 (just a guess) so it might now look like

108-160 5
87-107 4
61-86 3

so most likely you'll get a 3, but therers always that chance

20 wrong is still on pace for a 5.

so i failed!

Dk blue, thanks for posting that; I didn't feel like dragging out the old chem stuff from my heavily laden (and full) backpack. Yep, I think everything's right on the dot.

I just hope the last three parts of the last question aren't worth alot... I should have spent my last 10 minutes making sure I answered everything but no... I drew pictures sigh
