so exciting!!! Thank you! @steinbecklongs
@grr2021 oh totally, even if they did look at every application it couldn’t have been more than a cursory glance, especially since last year they had almost 900 kids accept a spot on the waitlist (probably similar this year). But I suspect they already had an idea of who to accept and didn’t look through all of the applications.
And if that’s the case, they probably didn’t look at most students breaking news updates, since those were added to the file… And they’d have to read the file to see the new updates.
Disappointing, but c’est la vie!
@grr2021 I don’t think they are lying about not ranking the WL applicants - I think what you said about using the WL to fill holes in the class is correct.
So if they find they need a stringed instrument player from a western state, an actor from the midwest, etc., they fill in that way.
I know it’s a frustrating process.
I got off the waitlist… Princeton’s always been my dream school, but then I’m also part of the scholar’s program at Columbia and I loved it there… what to do?
princeton of course!
@spaniardguy while I am a Princeton fan, if you went to Columbia and “loved it there” why go anywhere else? Make a space for someone who loves Princeton…
@psywar the thing is I haven’t visited Princeton yet, so i don’t know if I will fall in love with the school or not… it’s tough
@spaniardguy I’d visit soon, before school lets out, if at all possible…
@spaniardguy The way I see it, if you are already happy at Columbia, the comparative increase in happiness you’ll get by switching to Princeton will be negligible compared to the benefit somebody could get who is unhappy with their current choice. Food for thought!
@GnocchiB That’s the thing, though—as i mentioned in a different comment, they explicitly say each app is reviewed. In reality, though, they already have a list of people who they are going to use off the waitlist. Isn’t this indistinguishable from soft rejections, as they do not even consider some applicants?
Those of you admitted from the waitlist, did you get a call during the day at school (via your counselor - I believe somebody in Florida did?!), at home in the evening, or …?
@categoryjudge I did apply to Harvard, but straight up rejected lol. @curious2knowit I received a call while at school. And yes, I live in Florida also. @grr2021 good words, thank you.
What majors did you guys get accepted into? Congrats on getting off the waitlist by the way! What an accomplishment
@spaniardguy I am from Florida too!! @boothxbrennan I will be doing Computer Science
@boothxbrennan Thank you!!! PoliSci!
Any more acceptances today or contact with admissions office?
Hello - congrats to all on coming off the wait list. A couple of questions:
- Anyone know when they will close the wait list?
- How many folks that were accepted a position are going to take it.
- Did the people that got an offer from the wait list send in a letter of consideration or do anything special? Or were you just called up?
Sad to see that so many of the waitlist admits were already committed to ivies/Stanford/MIT (on here, but mostly elsewhere online). Although I guess it makes sense since those are the best of the waitlist… Anyone else looking at going to an average state school if not accepted off the waitlist?
@Swillow1022 - what is your backup?
It was a very hard decision for my daughter, including a few tears, but she is declining her wait list admission spot. Good news for someone else. She will be a Morehead-Cain Scholar at UNC Chapel Hill, which she was committed to anyway and forgot to remove herself from the waitlist (who would have thought it would happen). She also declined Duke, Georgetown and Berkeley. Good luck to everyone.
Did Princeton give a deadline to accept or decline the waitlist offer? @njfisherman - UNC chapel hill is an incredible institution - haven’t heard anything but success stories coming from there
