Princeton University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants Thread

@diagnostifikovan For violin, I submitted a 10 minute (or so) compilation video of a few pieces I’ve worked on. For theater, I submitted monologues that I competed with as well as a 30 (or so) page Playbill that I designed.

@LincolnsGF I wish I would’ve realized that I could submit poetry under “Creative Writing.” I would’ve submitted that as well. I don’t know how many other “BSE applicants” submitted Arts portfolios.

@xmas19 I submitted my poetry under creative writing supplements

@xmas19 I don’t think it would have mattered too much. If you sent in your poetry, only a certain arts department would receive that supplement and then would report back any comments/notes to the admissions officers. But I’m sure the admissions officers already know much about the quality of your writing through the Graded Writing Paper, the Common App essay, and the Princeton supplement essay. And I would imagine that not many BSE applicants submitted Arts portfolios outside of an instrument, but instrument players are pretty widespread.

Good luck everyone!! im honestly so nervous right now but cant do anything to help… praying for the best outcome

Really nice read! But the typo in the first sentence really threw me haha…

I sent my October act score after the deadline (I didn’t send it directly because I wasn’t willing to take the risk) is it possible that they got it? If not it wasn’t a dramatic improvement, but still…

@rshrawg You can check on your Princeton portal to see if your official score reports were received, at least you can for SAT. If you already had other scores sent before that date, then you probably won’t be able to see if your new scores were sent. But I’m almost positive that they got it, considering that the Princeton admissions website lists October as the last day to take the ACT for SCEA, whether you had your scores immediately sent to them or not.

For your supplements, did you guys focus specifically on princeton at all? Cuz mine was focused topic-wise, but could really be sent to any school. Just asking cuz people on the Stanford thread keep saying that they should’ve talked more about the school

@refn100 tbh i feel like the supps for princeton didn’t really ask about the school as a whole, but yeah , i kinda have he same worry

None of the supplements were geared towards talking about Princeton. I think changing your essay to somehow fit how much you like Princeton in it would have been a mistake, by applying EA you’re clearly interested.

Yeah the Stanford questions were more like “Why Stanford” type, Princeton’s weren’t

Appreciate the boosting of my confidence. Honestly at this point it just sucks to know that they definitely have the decisions all ready, but we still have to wait three more days. I just wanna know if I can completely scrap all my other apps or if I should start obsessing over another school

Same, the anticipation that I might get in as well as the ever deepening dread that I get rejected it too much! Wish I could just know and either be happy or make sure my other apps are fantastic.

Omg I’m so glad there’s other people here to freak out with me…my friend just got accepted into Stanford, and I’m really happy for him and all but it also adds pressure on me ahhh three more days!

Submitted an arts supplement for double bass. Really hoping that it helps. I know plenty of exceptional double bassists who are decent students and plenty of exceptional students who are decent bassists, but not very many who are strong in both (RIP to the violinists, pianists, cellists, clarinetists, and flautists because these are definitely the “smart” instruments and have much more competition). I suppose this is my “hook.”

Still nervous af though. Waiting like this really starts to make you become overly critical of yourself. It’s unhealthy for sure.

@ejc000 me too! I submitted an arts supplement for viola :))

I assumed so! It would be odd if someone with the username @violagirl01 was anyone but a violist. After all, who wants to be a violist? Gross.

I kid though. Violists are great (most of the time). Y’all’s concerto rep is wack though don’t @ me.
