Prospective University of Washington, Winter 2016 transfers?

Hey guys, here’s a link for those of you wishing for a credible source on UW transfer statistics:

"For autumn 2014, the Seattle campus offered admission to 53.2% of all Washington community college applicants. This compares to offer rates of 55.2% for high school applicants and 17.4% for applicants from four-year universities and non-Washington community colleges. The offer rate for international transfer students was 35%. 65% were from Washington community colleges.

In general, the best time to apply the University of Washington is when you are ready to enter your major. For most applicants, that’s when they’ve completed an associate’s degree and/or 90 transferrable quarter credits."

The often cited 65% acceptence rate for CC students was from the Fall 2012 transfer eNewsletter, which is no longer available on the UW’s transfer newsletter archive.

I got my acceptance letter to Milgard today…I wasn’t expecting to hear back before November. Feeling better about my chances for Foster now.

P.S. my unofficial transcript did not change at all for those trying to use that trick.

Does anyone know what my chances are ?
My GPA 3.49
Transfer student from Los Angeles, CA from another four year university
Latino
Applying as a geology major (not competitive)
Over 90 credits completed
I think I did well on my essay :-S
I’m just so nervous I can’t stop thinking of UW and wanting that letter of acceptance !

@Akeating I think you should not accepted the offer from UW Bothell if you have a high GPA with good WSA score and will not hear anything from UW Seattle. Most people can easy go to UW Bothell with decent GPA and WSA score

@JP1993 It’s been said on here a lot, but UW prioritizes in-state CC transfer students above all others. Consider that 86% of accepted transfers last fall were instate CC and just 14% were from four-year universities.

You probably have a shot, though. Who knows? Admissions are a crapshoot. Welcome to the forum!

@Readyandwaiting aaaand those statistics made me exponentially more nervous! As a person with a 3.76 GPA and 90 credits/AA complete, I know I have a good shot, but I thought for sure the acceptance rate was higher for transfers than just 53% !!!

You were a successful transfer, is that correct? What were your stats?

Yup! I was accepted for transfer for Fall 2015:

Major: Mathematics
School: Bellevue College (so in-state community college student)
Credits: 41 (Application), 82 (finished)
Prerequisites Completed?: Yes, before application
Application GPA: 3.82 (finished with 3.84)
Prerequisite GPA: 3.43
Math GPA: 3.66
Essay: 7/10, with 5/10 being average

When applying last year, I read from the transfer eNewsletter archives that the in-state CC acceptance rate was nearly 80% in 2007! Times change I guess …

@pokemon1234 I have not accepted it yet! I am not too confident about getting accepted to Seattle. UWB is definitely my back up though

Oh God… 2 years ago people already started hearing back of acceptances, while last year they were rejections on this very date - October 25 :open_mouth: (based off of the previous winter forum posts)

I think the notification period for us is about to start!! Best of Luck to everyone!!!

Literally made an account JUST to post this and give some updates to everyone. My friend who is a CC student applying for transfer as a pre-med student just got a rejection letter. Looks like a first batch of letters has already been sent out. I am also applying from a CC to UW as a business transfer. I checked the transcript trick and I got nothing and I have no letter either. Good luck everyone!

Good luck guys

Good luck

no changes here, still waiting…good luck!!!

No change or mail either! My mornings just became a lot more tense.

I also noticed last year how people were notified rejections around the 25th. I thought it was weird they started with rejections. I’ve been extremely nervous these past few days. I just checked my mail, didn’t receive anything but honestly I don’t know if what I grabbed is today’s mail (Monday, the 26th) or saturday’s (the 24th). So I’m going to check again in a few hours

@dubsup it’s funny you say that! I checked this morning and had mail, then checked again this afternoon just to make sure and had mail again!

My Unofficial Transcript doesn’t update every time I refresh it anymore. So it really has started 8-X

@Akeating just to clarify - where exactly are you going to check the transcript?
My UW>Financial Aid Status>Unofficial Transcript? Because I’m getting “500 - Internal Server Error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed”

This has been consistent since the very first day I checked, probably ~6 weeks ago.

@Readyandwaiting Hey, that’s awesome! We’re both math majors! Did you apply to the major at UW, and how was your experience doing so? My understanding is that the major was competitive as of Spring quarter 2015.

I applied as a math major, but I did not apply directly to the major. My essay was pretty good, I would say, GPA 3.76, 90 credits, major prereqs done (Calc sequence, Diff eq, Linear Algebra, Physics, etc.) You think I have a good shot?

@dubsup @Akeating My understanding of the early rejections is that in UW’s “pile”, they reject those who did not fulfill CADR and other basic entry requirements. Then they start accepting/rejecting people based on major. In past threads, seemed like business school people were first. Could be wrong, though! Good luck everyone!
