Ranking UCSD colleges

Make ERC #3

at ucsd we're all tritons and we all bleed blue and gold. doesn't matter what college you're from

I bleed red

which college is best for biochemistry major???

revelle is best for every major. so **** and apply there! jk =p

revelle sucks balls

Dude, sorry to bust your balls, but Revelle is one of the last choices. The GEs make you want to gauge your eyes out. I heard the social life is decent though. But then again, you can be in Muir and have BOTH social life AND easy GEs. ;)

I think if I didn't make it into Muir, I might have like Warren. Weird thing that they make you choose the order when you (usually) know NOTHING about how the individual colleges are.

Anyways, as far as individual colleges go, it does foster some sense of comradeship.
Most UCSD people I encounter off-campus, when they realize I'm from UCSD, first ask: What college? If it's the same as me, it's a nod in acknowledgment. If not, it's a quick nod of "ah" or a jealous remark of "damn lucky muirons." >: D

i'm applying as "undeclared, physical sciences" (maybe physics or even engineering if possible)

so far here is how Iranked the colleges:
1. muir/ warren
2. warren/ muir
3. sixth
4. marshall
5. ERC
6. revelle

i have a very hard time deciding bw muir and warren.
i'm leaning towards muir, although warren is recommended for engineers.

help me decide pls!!

I want to double major in communications/ literature (writing), so how should I rank these? I want to take the least amount of math/science classes possible.

I'm thinking:
1. Muir
2. Sixth
3. Warren
4. Marshall
5. ERC
6. Revelle

But I honestly have no idea. Help!

Comeing from Marshall, i'd tell you all to pick marshall! It was my first choice, close to the ocean, you can see the ocean from our restaurant called oceanview terrace. While all of the other restaurants close at 8, ours closes at 2am. The layout of the resident halls is very social, and RIMAC gym is close (in ERC) its also in between ERC and Muir so if you want to eat at those resturants too its not far.

the only reason warren is suggested for engineers is that warren has the least GE's and engineers have tons of units to complete (i should know im computer science) also warren is close to Jacobs school of engineering. Warren also has the lowest GPA acceptance rate. While it has its own grocery store, i dont really like how its all "canyon-y" and dry.

Muir is known for its trees. I don't like how tall the suites are. I wouldn't want to have to take an elevator to my suite everyday, because there are like 13 floors in the suites. Marshal has 5 floors tops.

Don't go for sixh unless you wan't to feel like your at summer camp. The dorms are seriously cabins. Plus your isolated from the entire school. I hope you like walking far.

if you don't mind the hard GE's and you have a high enough GPA for for ERC. Its gorgeous. and the suites are GIGANTIC.

the best college suited for engineering majors is Warren

Does anyone know if you can transfer to a different college?

You can transfer after you fulfill all the writing classes, and prove that you can graduate earlier in that college..basically, don't bother.

Agreed. If you're smart, you'd be taking a lot of those same lower-divs your first couple of years to buffer your GPA.

revelle ain't that bad. its also the most prestigious, people who say otherwise are entirely wrong. not only do my professors say it, admissions counselors say it, your mom says it. everyone knows that if you wanna pursue a degree beyond a bachelor's revelle is going to be the best way to project yourself to those med/law/business schools. yeah revelle has hard GE's but it creates well-rounded students. so pretty much if you want to go to those schools anyway you have to take classes outside of your strengths to prove you're not a huge nerd that can't do anything but math, or chem, or whatever. revelle just makes the decisions easier (and the extra prestige doesn't hurt), no picking and choosing and no slacking off and deciding not to branch out. you have to do it, you do it, and it gets you places. every other college has a kind of "specialty" like marshalls service, erc's international bs...revelle is the only one that is Renaissance-style. and what law/med/business school doesn't like that? think about it.

so for those that put revelle last, you won't be here and that sucks for you. unless of course, you're fine with a Bachelors, then by all means go to Muir.

I was so confused on the whole college system so on a fluke I put Muir as my first choice and got in for Winter Quarter (theatre major)!! can anyone tell me what the differences would be for me coming in as a winter admit as opposed to a fall admit?

You start one quarter later, and you're gonna miss out on all the fall quarter fun. The good thing is you get to get some ge's out of the way at CC

at sborratuafaccia - Revelle does not help you get that masters degree over any other college at all. Sure, it does make you more well rounded, but do grad schools care? No. Most people dont even know about UCSD's retarded college system. Graduating from UCSD is graduating from UCSD. Revelle, Muir, Marshall, ERC, Warren, Sixth - We're all the same.

^ agreed. 10 char
