got letter today confirming son’s presidential scholarship. it says 3500 for 8 semesters.
the description on the website says full instate tuition for 4 years. right now the 3500 per semester is correct but does this letter mean it doesnt increase if tuition increases??

I know my first scholarship letter(the one i got back in nov) said that even if tuition goes up, the scholarship will still be full tuition

thanks rocket, i’ll look through earlier papers!!

Our previous letter said scholarship would cover tuition increases.
I was also told last week that NM scholarship confirmations would be sent mid March for those who selected Bama as first choice. I wonder if all those big award announcements like NM, Fellows, CBH are made about the same time? Mid March is almost here, and I know the Fellows applicants are waiting to hear any day.

Now is this the confirmation letter listing all awards or was it just a follow up? It’s really strange how everyone’s getting different letters in the mail at different times.

If you can’t find your old letter that states that the scholarship will increase, then email Carolyn Rogers and she’ll state it in the response. Then print and save that response.

talking of scholarships… anyone heard anything about the crimson alumni one?

No, but they should be awarded soon.

Someone else said that the dept scholarships would be awarded in March, so it would make sense that the alumni would get awarded at a similar time…

I’m glad to hear that the scholarship confirmation letters are being mailed out. This will help a lot of students who were wondering about which scholarship they received. As for the confirmation letter not stating that the scholarship will increase, the presidential and NMF scholarships do rise with tuition because tuition rates for next year have not been set and what is being displayed is this year’s tuition rate.

My son received his letter receiving UA Scholar Award. We live in Atlanta, so this really helps. There was no mention of any departmental scholarships. Are these sent out separately ?

^^^

Congrats. That’s 2/3 of OOS tuition! And it rises! So, right now, it’s worth about $13k per year!

I think dept scholarships are sent out by the dept under sep cover. My son got his engineering scholarship under sep cover.

BTW…on mom told me that the College of A&S told her that they would email their scholarships to Crimson email…odd…but, maybe they also send a hard copy.

Okay, so there’s still hope for more aid? Does anyone know if the Alumni Association awards are sent out separately also?

It seems like it would be a lot easier to wait a couple more weeks and send out a definitive scholarship offer from all sources.

Thanks Mom2college, you are an absolute wealth of information. I have gotten so many questions answered. My son was accepted to New College, Blount and Honors. The 2/3 will make Alabama affordable. Our older son is finishing up at University of Texas at Austin and we will still be paying on his tuition for a long while…so any extras that Alabama can offer would definitely help. I have heard that the University of Alabama local alumni chapters also give out scholarships.

FYI, D got her National Merit Finalist scholarship letter today.

Congrats! :)

Son got his scholarship letter today, detailing all the different scholarships and amounts per semester. Grand total of his package over four years, $112K! Wow! Thanks, Bama!

Congrats! :)

Nice, congrats to him! Not to sound nosy, but what scholarships did he get?

DS got his scholarship letter today, both Presidential (University-wide) and Engineering Leadership (Departmental) were mentioned in the same letter. Like the others it did not specifically say that tuition amount would rise as tuition rises, but I do have the original of that from early on. I have a call in though, because if this is the official contract, it really needs to be mentioned in there.
Also FYI sends you to a page to accept, decline or defer your decision to May 1.

Still haven’t gotten my letter yet, but I spoke to someone from the Scholarship Dept and they said letters were still being mailed Monday/Tuesday this week. So to anyone who hasnt gotten theirs, dont get worried!
