Holy crap I just got accepted!!! Yay I guess they didn’t just send acceptances on Friday!
Wow!! Congratulations! Those who are still waiting, there is still hope! (I guess they like Fridays…)
Do most people pay full tuition? My daughter got accepted, and today we have a note that it’s necessary to pay over $60k per year. I won’t give up at this point because perhaps something is wrong and it can be adjusted. Our family of 5 has an income before tax of about $120k. Subtract taxes, our modest mortgage of $2k/mo, healthcare $11k per year, groceries and other things, we’d struggle to come up with $30k per year. $65k? She won’t be going to Reed then, which is unfortunate. We don’t have an extraordinary savings account. Perhaps something went wrong with the fafsa application, this is the first time I filled out that form, and I may have made a mistake. What do you think?
@Fromise, does the aid offered match your EFC from the fafsa? My aid package was very close to the number on my fafsa, so if you think there was a mistake, you should contact the financial aid department
@Fromise: My son is a junior now, but we have always had to contribute much more than the EFC from the FAFSA. Freshman year our EFC was close to $10k, but Reed’s calculation of what our family could contribute was almost $23K. The CSS Profile gathers more information on assets and calculates a much higher EFC. Then each institution does their own take on the Profile data. However, it’s certainly worth having a conversation with Reed’s office of Financial Aid to see if there are circumstances in your situation that haven’t been taken into account.
Thanks. The $60k+ per year cash requirement is a certain deal killer. A state college with good research program in the sciences has a $20k yearly invoice for tuition room board and an honors college. We will need to find out either way very soon, what direction she goes. $240k cash for 4 years vs $80k what is reasonable when you live a fairly frugal lifestyle? For all those with reasonable Reed tuition offers, congrats. Great college. Stars not aligned for us, it seems.
I was accepted 2 weeks ago and I still haven’t received anything in the mail
Hah, I won a free (sort of) copy of the Illiad!
Has Reed still not contacted everyone?? I have a few friends who applied, and this is just getting ridiculous.
@calliemoon11 Right here! I contacted them, and a super-friendly admissions officer let me know what was wrong with my application. Shoot them an email!
Hey has anyone that was wait listed and replied accepting the wait list received a reply from them?
Have all of you guys heard from Reed’s ultimate decision? I can’t imagine all the stress you went/are going through. I guess those of us who applied ED1 to Reed and actually got an answer the day they indicated (also a bit late though) were very lucky.
@peperoniz i sent mine in the day i got the notification but i haven’t heard back yet.
though, in my haste i didn’t read the attached pdf so my email’s subject line is a little different than what they asked for. but i mean, they go through all of their emails anyway, right? ._.
Hello, I have recently been rejected by Reed, but they’re asking for my IDOC now, what should I make of this?
My daughter still haven’t heard back from Reed. Looks like she is going to Smith
What?? That’s insane! Don’t you want to contact the admission office? I thought the people stopped writing in the result thread was because the momentum was lost, not because they haven’t gotten results yet!!
To the people who accepted their place on the wait list and emailed Reed, have you received a response/acknowledgment email yet? I haven’t and I’m starting to get worried.
I haven’t received a response yet. My email’s subject wasn’t exactly what was requested either…
I’d re-send the email with the requested subject line. If a higher-than-expected number of apps can throw the admissions office off as much as it apparently did, I wouldn’t count on them finding your emails. Good luck!
Apologies if this question should be posted elsewhere, but are there any current Reed College parents out there who would be willing to answer some questions about the college? Just trying to gather as much information as possible during this decision-making time. Many thanks!
