Sure. My son is junior and I’d be happy to answer your questions if I can.
I am a Reed parent. Feel free to send me a private message. There is also a Facebook page for prospective parents of the Class of 2019.
As a parent of a Reed '09 grad, I’m also happy to lend a perspective.
Ok I emailed Reed a couple of days ago. They still haven’t given my daughter a decision. Neither accepted or rejected. They said they were still evaluating her application. She has said it’s basically like being on the wait list. I mean it’s December 23rd and deposit is due in less then two weeks. She probably seriously consider Reed if they let her know.
You mean April 23rd? Anyways, this is unheard of!! Does she have a very close second choice she is considering? I really hope they will let your daughter know, like, NOW!
Sorry yes I mean April 23rd. My daughter has a couple of good choices. Reed would have been a great fit but I think she is going to accept the offer to Rice. She just wants to make a decision. Just crazy that they have acknowledged her completed application but never gave her an answer. She is not even officially on the wait list it’s just limbo. Of course it’s April 24/25th now and yes still nothing.
Sorry you had to go through this, @robotrainbow. I guess the new admission director needs to step up his game.
This seems really stange especially for a Rice admit. Both schools are excellent and I’m not saying Rice is a superior school, but Rice is one of the most selective schools in the country. A Rice admit probably isn’t a borderline candidate at Reed.
Idk. Reed has regularly denied top-school admitted students in my experience. My friend who was admitted to Dartmouth this year was w/led at Reed. Reed is probably looking for different things from Rice.
My friend who went to UPenn was denied at Reed. If you run a forum search, you’ll find people who were not admitted to Reed but got into Swarthmore, Bowdoin, etc. It’s really not that weird.
Well we gave up on hearing from Reed and my daughter committed to Rice. I guess I tell Reed to just forget about it though I am still curious to see what happens. Reed kept saying they didn’t have my daughter’s transcript. They finally acknowledged receiving it March 13 or something. Last email said they had her application and they were still reviewing it which was last week.
@robotrainbow They haven’t given your daughter a decision, I don’t think that she owes them them one. The admissions process can be soul-draining even when it runs smoothly, never mind when it goes, well, like this. Congratulations to your daughter on her Rice admission–time to buy a Rice t-shirt!
@robotrainbow, Congratulations on the decision! Rice is a wonderful school!
This year’s Reed’s application process got me a little concerned. My D’17 is interested in Reed.
Anyway, time to celebrate for you!
What’s the likelihood of getting in from the waitlist? I’ve sent them my art portfolio and another teacher recommendation as supplementary items, and I’ll probably write another essay for them soon. Ahhh I really hope I get in
sad I won’t be going next year with some great people, but in-state tuition at W&M is calling my name; I hope someone from the wait list gets good news because of it though!
Anyone knows when will we get our wailist results? Oh my god I love Reed so much don’t I, still waiting after all this time.
I don’t think Reed will be going to the waitlist this year. If it does at all, it will take very few people. The admissions office is reportedly happy with the number of people who’ve decided to enroll.
Ghostt, thanks for the heads up that Reed may not be going to the waitlist. Can you provide some background to this info. Thx
I just called them and they will be letting the waitlist people know within the next 2 weeks on a rolling basis, so as soon as they decide they will let you know. At least that’s what the admissions office said
Wait listed at Reed, still no word. Has anyone who was waitlisted heard any news?
