Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship

What do you guys plan to wear for the interview? Mine is today too.

I think I’m going to wear a suit. Better to be overdressed than underdressed.

how many out of those invited get the regent scholarship? does anyone know the exact percentages from previous years of invited who get the actual thing?

For the class of 2013:

The interviews last half an hour, almost on the dot. For me, my interviewer had a copy of my application and asked a few simple questions about it. I applied for Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and he asked me why I picked it. Why I didn’t pick bioengineering or mechanical engineering as my extracurriculars would suggest. What I thought about my art class, stuff along those lines.

The first thing they tell you when you show up is that you’re accepted. When I arrived, the attendance lady crossed my name off, said I was in, shook my hand, and then handed me an admitted pin.

A word of advice, don’t schedule your interview from 12:00 to 2:00, because you’re told to arrive an hour early, and the Cal students will be off at lunch. I pretty much sat around and just talked to other Regents candidates for an hour.

Best of luck! Feel free to PM me with any questions about the interview process.

Edit: I brought two letters of rec, but as far as I could tell, I was the only one. Also, I decided to wear a suit, and I wasn’t overdressed, but some people went with slacks, a nice shirt, and a tie.

aw, i guess no pin this year :<
it was awesome talking to so many people though. the professor i spoke to was extremely passionate about teaching, and everybody was so funny and nice. cal is definitely at the top of my list right now!

our student tour guide said Berkeley doesn’t give any scholarships. guess she wasn’t one of the elite recipients

400+/~1100

I got a pin! My bf went the next day, and he didn’t get one  I guess they ran out.

So they won’t be any more people receiving the regent’s title? cause on the berkeley website, it says they go from February to April to contact the students. And then from April to May to give away scholarships.

They start contacting candidates for the scholarship (a bit over a thousand students) who are the top applicants, in February. Interviews and overnight programs (they’re free! you should go!) start in early March. Getting this is a sure sign you’ve been accepted, and they usually tell you when you come to your interview. Good luck!

received email at 5:15 saying that I received the Regents Scholarship. Very excited! No financial aid, so not much of a deciding factor. Will choose between a couple good options, but Princeton is probably my destination. Congrats to all who got considered for this. You never know what they are looking for and it is an honor to make it this far. Go Bears.
