Rejection Appeals 2010!

I dont know, the appeals are gone through USC in general or a specific school at USC like marshall?

is there any success stories of appeals?

i’m assuming that we follow the directions given and that if you have questions about additional materials to send to contact admissions. It’s special depending on what school we may have applied (i.e. music or arts may require other materials and may be separate from the original admissions office)

usc admissions stated that since all the spots are already taken by admitted students that any student reconsidered after appeals is in as “undeclared”

Do you guys READ before you post? I literally just saw six of the same question asked in a row. That is so annoying.

You can appeal with anything you want I believe, but sending a fat packet of information will probably just lower your chances of success, because no one will want to look at it all. I plan on sending about four pages worth of material, but make sure my letter is on top/the first thing seen.

It would be awesome if someone who has done this before could come and answer all these questions for us.

would you guys recommend calling an admissions director and asking them questions about appealing?

Hi,
I would like to know if someone can help me on finding statistics on graduate admission at USC, in particular at the Viterbi School of Eng. (if possible in astronautical engineering). I could not find any info but the rate 21.9% (which I guess is related to all USC applicants).
Thank you very much!

Hardrockersean is accurate. I spoke to Admissions and my S has already sent his appeal. They actually should receive it today. Keep it short and follow the instructions as contained in the accompanying letter with the rejection (I hate that word. Let’s say with the letter that did not offer admission). Meanwhile on another mentioning I saw in this thread, he was already accepted at Santa Clara and the aid almost covered the entire year. So he is not in a bad spot, just not where he really wants to be.

Hand deliver your appeals if at all possible. Include any recommendations you think contribute to any new information you are including in your appeal and Good Luck!

cowman—I feel you. I desperately want to stay in LA because I grew up here and I love this place. Got accepted into NYU and all these other U’s back east. Rejected from 'sc, definitely appealing.

Come on guys, send those appeals and get in! 'SC chicks are counting on you. :)

Hey guys, has everyone sent theirs in already?

I’m just wondering… was anyone not able to get a recommendation from a teacher/counselor because of the time constraint? I’m in kind of a terrible position because I got the rejection over spring break and my school’s email system was down until today. Now I’ll only have a few days to get a rec and mail it in by the deadline and I don’t think any of my teachers will have enough time to do it. :/

what is PM?

What context was it used in? Probably private message.

dreamupsided0wn, I cnt get a recommendation letter too cuz my teachers are on leave as it is the holidays here where I’m schooling at. Just gonna send anything I have. Think the most impt thing is the appeal statement/letter. So no worries! If we’re meant to be accepted, we will. I know of a friend who got rejected by USC a few yrs back and got an acceptance letter 2 months later without even appealing. I’m mailing my appeal package tmr, keeping my fingers crossed!!

dream, you might ask if your teacher can FAX a recommendation from the school’s FAX machine, or email it using his/her school district email address.

Even if the recommendations are a day late it is better than nothing. You never know! It is better to try then not to. FAX will be the best method unless you live close enough you can hand carry it in using a sealed envelope. As far as grades go my Son’s counselor was able to get a statemnt from all my son’s teachers to prove that his grades showed significant improvement. If you have a good relationship with your couselor he or she might be willing to do this.

Due to the size of my public school and the amount of other students she has to help, I don’t think she can do that. It’s hard enough trying to get a hold of her. :(

Dream, you have to at least ask her! That sounds like a great idea. And I think as long as your appeal statement is in on time, the recs/letters can come a day or so later. Just email your admissions rep at USC that they are coming!

Also you might ask if you can email or fax your appeal immediately, AS WELL AS send it USPS Express or UPS overnight w/tracking!!!

How about one individual teacher that thinks of you as a shinning star during your senior year.
