Rejection Appeals 2010!

Quick question everyone. When are the rejection appeals due by? I still have not received any letters or packages yet and at this point, I am going to say that I’m probably rejected. So, might as well start on this appeal!

Thanks.

lifeisgood

i would make a call to the admissions office.

Message to all that need the help of a counselor or a teacher: Either you or a parents call to make an appointment. When told that the person in question is too busy at the moment to see you or your parent find out whether that person is actually at the school on any given day (s). Go into the office and announce that you are there. You will probably be told that Mr. or Ms. Importent Person can’t see you until two days after the due date. Sit in the office waiting room. Stay there. Do not move except for bathroom breaks and then have a friend sit there for you.

If the person is somewhat ineffective go directly to principal’s office. Do the same polite sit in. Especially effective when parent or guardian is sitting in tandem with you.

…also helps if you bring a snack for the counselor/principal/teacher and secretary of same.

@liveisgoods: it’s due monday, april 12th, so it’s pretty soon. good luck!

I agree with Ellebud. Get parental unit involvement. Go to principal as well… Often a call from the principal will help…Ck and see if any of the teachers are graduates of USC.

Bumping this to the front

I’m wondering how you guys wrote your one-page statements. Did yours read like a straightforward resume? Or was it written more like a personal narrative?

Mine was straightforward. Two people sent me successful appeals and both were pretty straightforward so I just went with that.

jdinh92 just make sure that you include new information about yourself in what ever format you select.

Do not do a resume. Your appeal should be a compelling essay with either new information or emphasis on something that wasn’t highlighted in the original application.

Do NOT send your appeal in late. That bespeaks to Admissions (or a future employer) of a person who either isn’t really interested or not together enough to do deadlines. DEFINITELY sends a bad message. My husband walked a daughter’s appeal into Admissions four days early. (Appeal granted)

Daughter crafted her appeal for two days straight: not a comma, period, verb tense, or thought wasn’t thought through. And that is a word to the wise. (Oh, and her counselor “forgot” to send her rec in because she was in competition with another boy in her class who had parents who gave better holiday gifts to the counselor. That is where I get my take no prisoners attitude with admissions.)

Your counselor can be your most important asset. They have contacts at USC. Tell your counselor SC is school of your dreams. Don’t forget about the principal either. These resources can send in recommendations by email using your USC ID number. This is the time to show how much USC means to you. Follow the other poster’s recommendation. Camp out by their door if you have to. Enlist your parents help. Don’t forget to have others proof read your appeal. Reading your appeal out load to others is also an excellent idea. If you are mailing your appeal send it by next day mail. If you are walking your appeal in don’t forget to ask for a receipt showing that it was received. Good Luck everybody!

Can anyone PM some successful appeals? And I hope everyone luck that they get into their dream school =) Anyone know what theme most appeals have? Do they show outstanding things done their senior year? Or are they mostly like sob stories?

Ellebud: Are you KIDDING us? on the counselor? That should be taken to the school board…

dream, it seems like everyone is in the same boat here at cc since we can’t get any additional recommendations. however, i do know that the Fullerton school district did have school this week, so they probably were able to get recommendations. It might be to our disadvantage, but i wish all you guys luck.

as for faxing or emailing the recommendations, i’d recommend contacting admissions if that’s ok.

Two of my kids had the same counselor. For my son he did the same thing–son accepted to the Theatre management (with letter etc) and rejected from the university. Counselor said that you couldn’t appeal, don’t waste your time. With daughter he did the above: we appealed, won. Found out from SC what the counselor did to daughter.

For third child, although she had a different counselor (he retired) I wouldn’t let counselor get within miles of her admissions. Counselor recommended horrible schools for youngest. I told her that daughter was going to SC. Counselor laughed. Daughter a sophomore at SC.

Not all counselors are good and with tenure…you are done…toast…have parents help, do research and then go for it.

Ya, and the teacher unions are alive and well protecting these counselors…

and now we wait again
this has probably been answered, but where do we check for updates?

usc states that they will email or mail you about appeal decisions. most everything they do now is by mail

alrite.
just wondering, cause last year had status updates (o god…) and i was wondering if it would be the same

I sent my appeal in Friday. Hopefully they received it today. I didn’t know whether or not to call them today to check.
They did update status in our USC Connect account?

i dont think they update your usc account
