Restaurants in C'Ville

Hey guys :)

So I was on the Y! Homepage looking at the latest news and I happened to stumble upon this video. It’s about a cupcake place in Charlottesville, VA:

[Yahoo! News: Odd news, offbeat news and weird happenings](http://oddnews.yahoo.com/video-odd-news-24814105)

So my question to you is whether or not you’ve had a treat from Cappellino’s Crazy Cakes! I’m a vegan so I’m not sure if I’ll ever go there (if I end up attending UVa). But the cupcake in the video sure does look delicious! :D

Completely off topic, but traffic in DC and Baltimore is hell. Three hours of driving, fourty-nine miles down… Sigh

Coolpg - my D and I are vegan too, hence why we live Brixx pizza (one of my favorite vegan pizzas), Mellow Mushroom also has vegan options and Bodos bagels :)

My D has been surviving very well at UVA as a vegan, the dining halls all offer vegan options and the vegan sloppy joes are one of her favs :)

If I can help with any vegan questions or check with my D I’d be happy too, just let me know! I know she said Great Scott’s popcorn had some fun vegan options and also a great gelato place had some!

UVAorBust, sorry for the traffic! It isn’t always so bad but key times and weather can make it lousy!

How was your UVA experience!?

I can’t believe no one has mentioned MAS! It’s the best tapas place ever! Not too pricey and there is always a long line during the weekends! But it is worth it if you like Spanish (not Mexican, Spanish as in from Spain) food!

No way!

Thank you so much shillyshally! I was afraid that nothing at UVa and Charlottesville would be vegan! You have no idea how happy your post made me!!!

When you ate at Brixx, did you get pizza with a cheese substitute or did you have it without cheese? I’ve gone to a couple of places and I’ve requested vegetable pizza without cheese and it was delicious! But if they have a vegan cheese then I would be lost for words!!! Hahaha :D

UVAorBust- There are alternative ways around Baltimore and DC. Instead of going 895 through Baltimore, go 695-W (or South) to, I believe 70-W/40-W, to 340-S, and then 15-S which eventually runs into 29S. It’s usually not a bad alternative…as with most NoVA/DC traffic, it depends on time of day.

Happy to help Coolpg! Believe me we had to make accessibility to vegan options a key part of our college search for my D!

Brixx has vegan cheese that is really good - literally we go there on every visit and I get one pizza to eat there and one to bring home  I wish they had one closer to me (Northern Virginia). [Brixx : Wood Fired Pizza](http://www.brixxpizza.com/) I know Mellow Mushroom also has vegan cheese, I haven’t tried it but my D has said it is good too.

There is a Whole Foods in C’Ville and also there are vegan options at the Harris Teeter and Kroger if you need staples for your room. I did make sure my D had a fridge and microwave in her room for late night cravings or on any days/weekends when pickings were slim. She has said there is almost always soy milk in the dining hall so she’s happy to eat cereal and/or salad on any night where the vegan options may be limited. Overall though she’s been just fine. She stocks up on Thai Peanut Noodles from Trader Joe’s when she’s home just to have on hand and I send her vegan goodie boxes. My vegan white chocolate/macadamia nut cookies are often requested by her non-vegan suitemates :)

She stays on campus for the most part but also enjoys hitting Chipotle, Mellow Mushroom, Bodo’s or Brixx. I’m sure there are additional options too she just hasn’t ventured as far around and tends to stick to her tried favorites. I have heard there are some additional options on the corner though.

If you have any specific questions just let me know! :)

[Mas has been mentioned](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12371516-post7.html). :)

Coolpg, Integral Yoga Natural Foods is also a great location for organically grown produce, etc. It is located on Preston Avenue in the same shopping center as Breadworks, Mona Lisa Pasta and Twice is Nice (a fabulous second-hand clothing shop), and not too far from the Preston Avenue Bodos!

I was going to write about my DOTL experience when I got home. But, since I now won be home till 1 AM I might as well do it now. Please bare with my spelling errors as I’m not the best iPhone typer and this auto-correct could put me over the edge.

So, last night my dad an I arrived at our hotel around 5. We stayed at a Best Western Plus which was about 15 minutes outside of UVA. I changed into some presntable clothes and we drove tithe campus for dinner. Now, I have to say, the grounds are drop dead gorgeous. Honestly, just beautiful. From the UVA logos pained on the street to the old southern buildings. The grounds have a feel that is just unmatched. Enough drooling and on to the food. We were originally going to the French restaurant restaurant you guys recommended L’toile or something along those lines. But, couldn’t figure out where it was (ironically enough it was shops down from where we ate). So, we decided to try Dean J’s recmendatio “Horse and Hound”.

Though I come from NY, southern food is where it’s at for me. I ordered the crab cake and “shrimp and grits.” accord to the waiter there was a beer party going on inside so it took a little over an hr to get the crabcake. But I honestly didn’t mid as I was sitting outside and soaking in UVAs amazing atmosphere. The food was fantastic. The cream grits were honestly amazing and tasted like desert. I would strongly recommend this restaraunt to anyone visiting.

(I made two posts because sometime my phone times out with long messages)

DOTL, ohh DOTL… So, we drove to DOTL at around 8:15, parked in the Emmet lot (very convient). And chose to walk with a tour guide to the lawn. Of course, the guide had nothing but praise for her school and was very nice. After the scenic route to the grounds we were greeted by the UVA marching band, mascot, and Dean J with CavDog in tow. Meeting Dean J and CavDog for the first time was very rewarding as I finally got to meet the person who had helped ke so much (thanks again for everything Dean J! You’re just as kind in real life as on CC, the blog, etc :D)

All the students and their Families were then introduced into the old cabell hall an spoken to by the president, Dean Roberts, and a 4th year. I honestly have to say that I doubt there is another school in around that has a syuden cry during her speech. The girl loved her experience at UVA so much, she started tearing during the middle of her speech. I think that really showed everyone in the hall just how awsome UVA really is. We then heard a student acapella group sing the Good O’le UVA song which was very entertaining.

The rest of the day was pretty basic. I went on a tour and my guide Ricky was very, very entertaining. Very funny and passionate about his experiences at the school. I then went to the McIntire presentation which was great. I learne a ton about the school I had previously not knew (if you can believe that ;)). I’m now now evenore excited to attend McIntire, and obviously UVA.

All in all, the day was amazing. It was put together very well and everything went very smoothly. Thanks again everyone for the help over the past year. I already can’t wait to go back!

Did you go up to Dean J and say “Hi, I’m UVAorBUST”? LOL

WOW! Thank you shillyshally and oldUVAgrad!!!

Now I’m super duper pumped! I’m so glad they have soy milk (I enjoy eating cereal late at night while I’m doing my homework xD)! I was also snooping around the online menu and I saw vegan pancakes! This upcoming year is going to be awesome!!!

I will definitely ask some more questions when they come to mind! I’m just so glad they offer vegan food in Cville! UVa is looking greater and great! I can’t wait until I visit! :D

Wahoomb, she actually knew who I was because I posted I would be wearing pink Sperrys. It really made my day :D

Rev Soup also has vegan options if you want to dine out somewhere with friends. They’re marked on the menu.

Senegalese Peanut is my person fav. :)

The Downtown Mall location has a great vegan chili. I’ve never seen it at the Corner location.

BTW, the have menu symbols for vegan, dairy free, and gluten free options.

[Revolutionary Soup](http://revolutionarysoup.com/)

Awesome, I’ll let my D know to try that out and I can hopefully try it on our next trip down. Thanks Hazelorb & Dean J!

Rev Soup on the corner had vegan chili this week but it’s not a regular option. I go there once a week, too, with the same friend I frequent Thai 99 with, lol. The downtown mall Rev Soup has a checkers set you can play with while you wait (with bottle caps and the table is actually painted).

So, basically, what we’re all agreeing on is this: Cville food is awesome. =] Can’t wait to go on Monday! AHHHHHHH
