Corveno, actually one of the only excuses that you can give a college for turning down early decision is finances. Colleges understand how difficult it is to pay 50 grand a year and would not put that burden on you and your family. A simple email and phone call should do the trick.

Accepted, but will they tell me about my major? I’m not sure how this works…

Hey, congratz to all those accepted. Good luck to those deferred. And my condolences to those who were denied.

@kawn017: You are admitted to Rice, not a specific major. You can major in whatever you decide (except music or architecture, you need to be admitted directly to those programs).

Well ****.
Screw you Rice.

@adamb529 Ohh ok awesome! So I just take coursework related to my desired major? When do I officially declare a major?

^ Yes, however there are distribution requirements as well. I believe you must declare by the end of your sophomore year, but I think you can declare at any time prior to that as you want.

I wish I used Rice as my ED.
I didn’t apply ED anywhere and I regret it.

so after we’ve been accepted all we need to do is

withdraw all other apps
pay the deposit
and then send the midyear report and final grades when available

right?

I feel you Aerobug! But it’s good that you realize how much you want Rice…it will help with the application ;)

I know I shouldn’t be focusing on my lack, but I keep thinking about my 2110 on the SAT and how I’m an Asian-American and how in the regular application pool I’ll be at a disadvantage. Haha what’s my problemmm.

Aerobug, it is not too late for EDII deadlines at many colleges.

will it make sense for me to write the january SAT II for rice when the deadline is jan 1st?

[Class of 2016 most diverse and talented in Rice history](http://news.rice.edu/2012/12/07/class-of-2016-most-diverse-and-talented-in-rice-history)

I predict that this year’s acceptance rate will be 14-15%. See article.

aaaaaaaaaaaaand sent!

every university I’ve read about says 2016 is the most diverse and talented and hard working yadayadayada. is that always true or do they say that for each incoming class? just wondering…haha

I need help on what to put in my box. I love literature and wanna put a picture of a book with different like backgrounds to represent the different worlds that literature can take you to.

Would that be corny?

I would just go with it. I think there’s an inherent level of corniness that comes with these college admissions questions, so don’t let that hold you back.

Yeah, I think that you should genuinely put something in the box that, well, appeals to you. I’m putting a photo of a book of selected poems of Pablo Neruda that I really love. Not the most unique thing in the world, but I think it speaks to who I am.

… anyone else have problems uploading their image? For whatever reason, can’t get mine under 500 KB. And why’s it want a Word document rather than a jpeg or png?

It’s a word doc and not a jpg because the picture goes on a separate page attached to the application and not in the box when uploading it online if that makes sense
