Just starting the “what perspective will you contribute” essay… talk about extreme procrastination

If you want to decrease an image though,
Open the file in paint
find “Resize” (for newer versions of paint it’ll be obviously visible in the banner)
Reduce pixels as necessary until satisfied

Do you think I could put a picture of me with my family in the box or are they looking for more for hobbies?

^ of course that would be alright. it shows that your family appeals to you…it’s important to value family :)

For the box, I used a picture that I painted with a short poem written on it. Is that okay?

Ugh, I just realized that I missed the deadline to request an interview. How important do you think it is? It’s annoying that they never list the deadline for requests on the supplement; I just now looked it up because I assumed, like most schools, they contact you after you apply, or you have the option to sign up after you apply.

^^That sounds perfect.

^Yeah, I missed the deadline too. I really hope it doesn’t matter for much.

According to the Rice CDS, they “consider” the interview.

[Common Data Set : Rice University](<a href=“Rice University”>Rice University)

It won’t help, but it shouldn’t sink your application.

submitted! good luck everyone!

I’m writing to ask this for my son’s friend. He just submitted his Rice app tonight at 11:02 pm Central Time (we live in Central Time and Rice is in Central Time). He was wondering if it will be “late”, since we read on CC that “Jan 1st” due date means by the end of Jan 1st Eastern Time . My son’s friend submitted at 11:02 pm central time, which is 12:02 AM Eastern Time. He said that it did go through (Common App did not give him any message saying “this cannot be submitted”). Will it be late for Rice?

Did the thing we submitted for the @D picture supplement have to be an original work? I submitted the hufflepuff motto (You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true. And unafraid of toil.) but the photo i submitted of it was not an original work.

And Jennie, I think that if it went through it should be ok, maybe contact the rice admissions office directly?

@MissxSilverwing I think the most important part about the interview is simply you choosing to show interest in Rice. Honestly, the interview was pretty superficial and I don’t think a good/bad interview would swing your application either way. If you can, I would still sign up for a campus visit if you can.

@jennieling, in all correspondence between Rice and its ED applicants, it always simply said “11:59 PM Nov 1st”. I think they would have said EST specifically, were it not CST. So I think your son’s friend is just fine.

@hydroguy, it’s open to interpretation. I drew a picture for it. “Put in the box something that appeals to you” leaves the door wide open for whatever you put. :)

This is from another post:-
The Common Application records all dates (deadlines, form submission dates, payment dates) in eastern time. Schools not located in the eastern time zone may choose to extend their application deadlines to the end of a deadline day in their local time zone or may accept your documents up until the posted deadline in their local time zone (even though your submission time stamp will be recorded in Eastern Time). For example, a school located in California may accept your application until 2:59am eastern time, which is equivalent to 11:59pm pacific time. Since this is on a school-by-school basis and this is not information that is available to you, we recommend you submit based on the eastern time deadline.

@Kamnn1 Thanks. I thought they would have said something if it had to be original work

I also submitted my application at around 11:05 PM central time. I’m pretty sure the deadline is for the time zone the school’s located in, which is central for Rice.

Then again, the Common App runs on Eastern time, so the supplement says “Date submitted: 01/02/2013”…

SO I sent in my application a few days ago. This might sound silly but what’s the next step in the process?

work on any other apps that have later due dates…or if you don’t have any more, ENJOY THE NEW YEAR YAYYY!

hehe

@kamn1: Yeah, I feel like that’s what it is, too. Rice is my first choice, which is why it’s frustrating that I missed the deadline But I’ve visited (twice, although I only put the most recent time on my application), and seen Rice at a college fair and high school visit, plus I put down the names of 2 students I knew. My “Why Rice” essay is also really specific to this one sculpture that I saw at Rice, so hopefully that all makes up for the lack of interview.

Work on financial aid documents. The FAFSA just came out, and you need to fill out the CSS Profile.

Hey guys, I’m an ED admit, so I can answer questions if you guys have any.

My biggest piece of advice for you would be to not make a countdown. Honestly, it just makes the process seem so much longer. Easier said than done, but try not to think about it too much until it gets close to decision day.
