Rice Class of 2017 ED/RD Discussion Thread

Son was rejected- 30 ACT, but pretty stellar and unique story that he could tell. Very passionate about patient advocacy. Oh well, good luck to all.

D is accepted with trustee scholarship. I thought trustee scholarship at any university covers the entire tuition. Looks like that is not the case  Does rice have a full tuition scholarship at all ?

not for US citizens who are not engineering division they don’t!

Rejected.

1450/2230 SAT; 34 ACT; 3.7 GPA; all honors and AP classes; what I thought were decent essays; two club presidencies; National Merit and a few other awards.

Do they really only have one available slot for every 16 applicants? Jesus.

Congratulations on the scholarship.

@baddriver, Thanks for the info. D applied to bioengineering which technically should be engineering. Do not want to sound greedy here  but does anyone know if all the awards are listed under ‘award history’ on Esther ?

@forcollege where did you hear that you received the Trustee Scholarship? When I called them, they said that the information would be sent via snail mail.

Look in Financial Aid Tab for a link to ‘Awards’ and it will be listed there with amount.

I could not find a link to “Awards”–is the name of the link “awards” or something else? Also, did you apply for fafsa?

re Northwestern–accepted Rice, NWU waitlisted me–looks likes no Down Jackets for me…its permanent shorts season…ps 4.0 GPA UW, all 800s on subject tests, 35 act, research experience, volunteer etc

Accepted!

Where is the financial aid tab…? I don’t see one on Esther. I didn’t apply for FA; does that mean I can’t get any merit awards? (not that I’m expecting any)

I do not remember if Rice is a school that requires you to apply for FA to be considered for Merit (very well may not be) but we did apply for FA (none rec’d) and did receive Trustees Scholarship shown through ‘awards’ on FA link next to Admissions link

Hm, I just checked, and you don’t need to apply for FA to get merit aid. I’m going to assume that I just didn’t get merit aid. Maybe I’ll email or call on Monday.

Is anyone else who didn’t apply for FA missing an FA tab?

Rice Merit Scholarship page on website says that all students applying are considered for merit and no mention that you need to apply for FA.

So is there anyone like me who did not apply for FA, but who DOES have an FA tab showing that they received merit aid?

Accepted!
I am so happy right now! good luck to you all with your college decisions.

Okay, I know money is important, but more decisions, people! Come on!

Sorry, emberjed! It’s not super important to me, but my dad is pressing me for answers about merit aid, so I’m trying to get into for him :)

Accepted! So excited to possibly be heading down to Houston in August! #ImBlessed! Congrats to all of you guys in the midst of the College decision process! You’ve made it this far!

Rejected. I don’t know how I feel. For a few minutes, I want to rip my heart out, and the next few minutes I feel okay with it. My sister keeps trying to talk to me and I don’t want to talk at all. My aunt has been eating rice everyday this week and is texting me frantically asking for the news. All my friends know that Rice was my one and only love. A lot of people had written appeal letters just in case I was wait listed, but I wasn’t. I was rejected. That sucks. I wish Rice knew how badly I wanted to go. Oh well, I have to move on.
