@thedormouse - I was confused… and have since been enlightened by calling the school. UASP is departmental only whereas Honors is University wide. Therefore you can be accepted to the Scholars program in your field of study because they have the openings there, but if the Honors program is full, you would not be accepted there and vica versa. They told me that last year 25K applied and 500 were admitted into Honors. They are very similar in their perks, however… but there is NO scholarship money with Honors and there is likely departmental scholarship money with Scholars. My DD was accepted to Honors, but not UASP for example… but her intended major isn’t in of the 14 areas that are listed online as part of Scholars so that makes sense. The only thing she is really missing out on is the little bit of scholarship money the department might have earmarked for scholar students and UASP.
@snydertech thank you for the clarification! And huge congratulations to your daughter!
Thank you @snydertech. I just came on to ask the same thing. My DD was accepted into the UASP, but not Honors. We are out of state and she received two merit scholarships (one for $24,000 that came with the letter from the admissions department announcing her merit scholarship award and acceptance into the UASP, and one that came about a week later for $2,000 that came from the Pre-Law department). I was not aware there even was an Honors program until my daughter mentioned it a couple of days ago, because it sounded like the UASP was Miami’s version of an honors program - so confusing!!
Anyone now anything about the Stamps Scholarship notification process for Miami?
I misspoke earlier with my post about Miami. I was initially disappointed, but they responded with an email saying it was a clerical error and they will reevaluate my package. I appreciate how Miami is being most helpful with the issue and I look forward to being able to reconsider such a great school! Congrats to everyone on your packages.
Has anyone emailed and not received a response about merit scholarship award…early admit in Honors but no letter of merit award.
exact same with us Lisa-half tuition with 4.6 UW GPA, 34 ACT Grateful for any $ but their promotional pieces make it sound like we might get 100%
I’m also curious about the Stamps process… when are accepted students notified about nomination? Wondering when to stop wondering if daughter might be invited to apply (if that’s even how it works).
Anyone else that has not heard back from Miami U and applied EA?!?
@vivinicole, My DD applied EA mid Oct & hasn’t heard back yet. She did contact Miami and they told her that because she is technically an international student her timeline for a response is different than that for domestic applicants & she won’t hear back until sometime in Feb!
All–One fyi I wanted to throw into the ring. At this time last year, by DD had received her acceptance and a great scholarship but no mention of honors. Having seen many other reports of being accepted into Honors, we assumed she hadn’t gotten in. A while later, in February I think, she received an invitation to honors. I can only speculate that they allot a certain number of honors slots with the first wave of acceptances and then allot more later. Today she is a freshman in business at Miami, living in the honors dorm, and absolutely loving it.
Oh, and by the way, students can select Honors as an LLC and thereby live in the honors dorm even if they aren’t in the honors program. My DD happened to pick a non-honors student as a roommate (found via Facebook), and there are also rooms where neither student is in the honors program.
Still waiting on EA decision.
Any info on Stamps Scholarships?
Apparently students selected will be contacted starting mid-February to set up telephone interviews.
@4X529s any info on how many they interview & how many they are planning to award this year?
Also curious…
FA has stated that even if you don’t feel you’d qualify for any FA, it’s a good idea to apply because there are some scholarships that require a FAFSA on file to be considered for awarding.
Anyone know anything about these FAFSA required scholarships? Asked FA directly, but even the person I spoke with couldn’t give any useful info about them. Old threads look like initial offers really never seemed to change. Are these just unicorn, mythological scholarships? Lol
I don’t know any more about process unfortunately. The website says 5 will be awarded: https://miamioh.edu/onestop/your-money/finaid/aid-types/scholarships/stamps-scholar-program/index.html
My son received his acceptance letter today but no merit letter included. Is it coming still or am I out of luck? His test scores/grades etc comparable to those in this forum.
@Lani13 My daughter’s merit letter came about a week after her acceptance letter.
Hey guys, I just received my acceptance letter and they said that “We are pleased to provide you with preliminary notification of your selection for a scholarship in the amount of $36,000 for the 2016-2017 academic year”. I’m just wondering if this scholarship will be renewable for 4 years or it’s just one year only?
