@topaz1116 The one where the first poem is about Vietnam or being Vietnamese (I just quickly skimmed a collection that may or may not be it)?

Haha I just dug up and reread my Silver Medal poetry collection from when I was a freshman. I feel like my poems are better now, but who knows? crosses fingers

Yeah, there are some golds that are amazing, some that don’t impress me, some silvers that are amazing, some that don’t impress me…It’s all a question of preferences, haha, I personally am not really a fan of poems that utilize numbers (40 drops of x, 5 days, 387 flying minutes - okay that was not a poem but you get the point), so it’s hard for one of those to impress me. But some are so, so, impressive.

Alright I’ll hit u up tomorrow. Don’t feel like turning on my laptop right now haha.

I had three teachers look at mine. Since I used a lot of outside sources I had to make sure my citing was correct. My paper was actually part of a larger project in a class I take called Independent Research. Anyways my IR teacher loved it, and my English teacher worries it might be too controversial for the judges to be objective. I mean there are gold medalists who have written on topics like gun control and such, so I think I’ll be fine.

My daughter submitted a bunch of short stories several hours ago. She didn’t even have a chance to finish her homework because she proofread multiple times. Can’t believe how much work is entailed!

So once the website says my work status is “completed” and I know i mailed my forms in on time, I don’t have to worry any more right? There was no spot for me to click send application or finalize all entries or something like that.

My daughter had the same question last year and this year. There is no submit button, and it looks like you can still edit them even though the deadline past. It is a bit disconcerting but it is all good!

@OverInfinity - last year, were awards notifications sent out by email or actual mail? The first year I applied, they were sent out by email, but the second year by mail (which struck me as kind of odd).

@Xiangestinium - I believe your local affiliate will contact you if they didn’t receive your forms or your work wasn’t uploaded correctly. Mine did when I sent my forms in, but my work hadn’t been uploaded yet.

It was really awesome. Usher and Zac Posen spoke, and I met a lot of very accomplished people from all over the country (and one very stuck up girl, but only one haha). We got a lot of books and goodies too, and there was a reception where some art was displayed. I really enjoyed it, especially because it was my first time to NYC. I was also very grateful to have gotten there, as on the way there, my dad and I crashed our car and missed the bus, and, well…Let’s just say I had a very exciting story to tell when I actually got to NYC :3

American Voices Award recipient from last year. Just realized that I missed the Scholastic deadline to submit my writing portfolio :(( also missed the deadline for youngARTS. Think I’ll go crawl under the covers and weep for a while…
@evan241 Our region for visual arts is typically very disorganized and are usually late, so if they say end of January, it’s probably early (by best) February. And writing in ultra organized, so they will be judging in January and announcing first week of February.
I’m really busy this time of the year, but it’s not stopping me from stressing out over this…
