@mccombsorbust Sorry I guess I didn’t word that right. I went into my first semester at Texas State with a total of 24 hours of dual credit, and then this fall semester I completed 12 hours. So right now I have 36 hours completed and by the end of spring I will have 49.
Hi all,
I’m planning on transferring in Fall 2016 from the Honors College at University of Houston.
First choice major: CNS- Nutrition
Second choice major: COE- Kinesiology & Health
I ultimately want to internally transfer to CNS- Public Health but I didn’t keep that as my first choice because I heard it is more competitive, and I’m ok with either of those 2 majors.
My current GPA from Fall 2015: 3.437
My expected GPA after Spring 2016: 3.63-3.75 (depending on how many Bs I get.)
I haven’t done my essays or LORs yet, but I will spend a lot of time on perfecting them before I submit.
Some ECs I have from high school: President of Science National Honor Society for 2 years, 200 Hours of health science externship (shadowing/rotations), ran 2 blood drives, part time employment, NHS, and a LOT (like over 500) of volunteering hours from my religious center. Was top 5% in high school and had ACT 31 (not sure if that matters.)
In college I joined Pre PA association, and I’m still volunteering.
I have Calc 1, Bio 1&2, and Chem 1 credit (with labs.)
What are my chances for both majors? And is it easier to get into CNS- Undeclared? Thank you for reading my long post!
Hi everyone!
I am also planning on transferring for the Fall of 2016.
First choice: McCombs/Business
Second choice: Economics
GPA: 4.0
Hours: 31 (This includes AP credits, but do those count?)
I am still working on my second essay and have to ask for a recommendation. I think they will be decent.
I have a small number of extracurricular activities and organizations I was involved in.
What are my chances?
Good luck to everyone who applied!!!
Hello guys !
I am looking to transfer into UT Austin as Business major in Mccomb. However I do have unique background and I want you guys to realistically chance me for getting into such program.
I have finished my freshmen year of college in UIUC as psychology major in 2014-2015 but tuition was getting out of hand and took year of community college over at Houston and prepare for UT austin instead.

My question is my overall GPA will be exactly 3.8, but since I have finished my freshmen year at competitive 4 year University does it help me to get to Mccomb ? What are my realistic chances ? I saw average GPA for transfer has increased to 3.93 and I am no where near that. Im also thinking of applying to Computer Science instead of COLA Econ but I am afraid that I will not get into UT at all. Do you guys think I have solid chance for CS or CE?
I’m not a hundred percent sure, but I don’t think they’ll use your university GPA as something to look harder at. GPA from a uni is looked at the same as a GPA from a community college I believe. I think with a 3.8, you’re right on the border. I’m as well trying to transfer to Mccombs and have a 3.91, but don’t feel comfortable about getting in. Idk, maybe I’m too hard on myself, but its probably good going in not being too confident on getting in.
As for whether to choose CS or CE as a second choice, that’s up to you. But, looking at past threads, CS is really hard to get in and CE looks to be one of the more lenient engineering majors to get in. But looking at your courses, I think your chances slim down when Cockrell notices that you haven’t completed any physics courses. Following threads again from last year, some people I think that got denied from both schools of choice were still offered a chance at COLA due to having a high GPA (like a 3.8). So, like I mentioned, its up to you.
Sorry if this seems like a grim reply, but if it makes you feel any better, I think you’ll be a shoe-in for Econ!
Best wishes
My daughter has a 4.0 from hs dual enrollment credit and a 3.75 first semester from a 4-yr university. She currently has 22 hours completed plus an AP course and she’s enrolled in an additional 15 hours. If I’m understanding correctly, she can apply but will not receive an answer until her spring transcript is available so we’re looking at a June or July decision time. She applied to UT as a hs senior for her freshman year and was rejected so she would be applying again. Also, of the total credit hours she will have after spring, 15 of them will be in psychology courses. I know UT won’t take all of them for a psych degree but will they at least count them as transferable elective credit? Will her previous rejection hurt her? Will so many credits in psych hurt her chances? We are OOS and won’t qualify for financial aid so unsure if that will help her.
I would really appreciate if you all could chance me!
I am applying for transfer admission for fall 2016.
I currently have a 4.0 at the University of Oklahoma. My first choice major at UT is COE Health Promotion and my second choice major is COLA undeclared. I have 4 rec letters (2 from UT alumni, 1 from an OU professor, and 1 from a hs dance coach). I am applying as an in-state transfer. I currently have 28 transferrable hours (I had 39 but UT isn’t taking 11 of them), so I will have to submit my spring 2016 transcript in May in order to meet the requirement of having 30 transferrable hours. I am currently in several clubs, a sorority, on the dean’s list, and have a job working for the school newspaper. I also have a ton of extra-curriculars and volunteer work from hs. Do I have a good shot of being accepted?
For those of you with credits that didn’t transfer, can you share what those classes were? Thanks.
Hey does anyone know if applying closer to the deadline will decrease my chances of getting accepted? I plan to have my application in early February since the deadline for Fall 2016 is March 1st. Is it true that admissions reviews the applications in the order they come in?
Not sure this is a definite answer, but my daughter spoke with the asst. dean of the college she is applying to. She asked if her chances were hurt because she wouldn’t have 30 hours in until after spring semester. They told her ‘No’ and that applications weren’t reviewed until that time anyway.
@jennie11 I took a dual-credit EMT course in high school (9 hours) that didn’t transfer and I also took an Intro to Rehab Services class at OU (2 hours) that didn’t transfer as well.
What school is your daughter applying to? From my understanding after talking to a UT representative for transfers, he said that once March 1st comes is when they look at all the applications as a whole and make their decisions for ones who already have 30 hours, but I could be wrong. I already have my 30 hours but just not completely done with my application quite yet.
@rach98n ^^
@prospectivehorn2 - School of Communications. Take it with a grain of salt. It could have been a misunderstanding of the question or a misunderstanding of the answer by my daughter. I really thought it was the way you thought as well which was why I had her ask the question. But I didn’t listen to the call, so I can’t be certain of the context.
@rach98n thank you for your helpful information! That is the school I am applying to as well!
School: University of Houston Honors
Freshman
Major: Computer Science
Hours completed (w/ AP credits): 60+
GPA: 3.94
Transferring into: CNS - Computer Science
Extracurriculars: Some coding clubs, some business, had tons of leadership positions throughout high school (written on extended resume)
Volunteer work: Pretty good
Interned at Gap Engineering and did some work tutoring/Mathnasium
Essays pretty good
Really good recommendation letter from Honors Professor
@mcs1996 , thanks for the info.
Since the app info says you must have or will have 30 hours, I assume they review those with 30 hours first and then others later and perhaps those getting the hours in later will be at a disadvantage because it will depend on space available. I’m going to call tomorrow and ask so I’ll post what I learn.
Does anyone know any information about the application review process? Like how admissions goes about choosing which apps to review first? Is it in the order by which they receive the applications? Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.
Hi I am a freshmen right now attending UT Tyler as a Freshmen pursuing a BS in computer science, after seeing all the competition for CS I’m beginning to have a lot of anxiety for my chances externally transferring into CS right now.
Fall 4.0 GPA
Music Through History, Precal , Programming Fundamentals 1 and Lab, Hist 1301,
Spring (Upcoming)
Political Science 2305, College Algebra, Cal 1, Object Oriented Paradigm and Lab, Speech Fundamentals
EC - Started a Club (Investment Club) and Robotics Club (maybe in it but 17 hrs next semester might be tough) and built a website for them
RECS - 1 from Precal, maybe 1 from CS Prof, maybe 1 from CAL Prof
Questions - Other Advice ? WHAT ARE MY CHANCES ?
It appears they review apps by major and when received. So I’m guessing it is possible for an app to be reviewed before another one that could have been received earlier.
