***Stanford Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@afamelas SAME!!!

@camestrada @afamelas Chance me? Sorry I’m just so anxious!

@ivybound456 Ok I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not. stannyhopeful’s SAT and GPA are both fantastic. One A- isn’t going to kill you, I promise.

@afamelas @camestrada thank you so much!!! I’m not sure if thats true though!!! I’m still freaking out about that stupid A- and lack of email back after

@stannyhopeful I don’t know much about athletic recruiting, but if they didn’t contact you again, the coach probably doesn’t want you. HOWEVER. That has absolutely no bearing on your academic acceptance, and you are more than qualified to get in without the recruit.

Hmmm I think that you sound really solid, but you never know with a school like Stanford! Especially with that A- though that could hurt for sure. Would you mind chancing me too?

Test Scores: SAT: 1830 (590M, 620CR, 620W)
SATII: Hebrew: 530 Math1: 500
AP: Art History (5)

GPA: 3.2 (unweighted at an average public school)

Extracurriculars: Nothing very significant, I was the president and founder of my school’s frisbee golf team. I’ve been on my school’s science bowl team and we’ve won the sportsmanship award three years in a row! Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Olympiad participant. Applied to Intel Science Fair. I’ve sold a few paintings to friends and family but haven’t been recognized outside of that for my art.

No Sports!

Essays: I don’t want to be too specific because the essays were very personal but I mostly wrote about my art and passion for science.

Hooks: Asian Female, first generation college student

I know it’s not much but I would appreciate any comments!

ok seriously, what is it with people freaking out over an A-??? IT WON’T GET YOU REJECTED. If you are denied, I promise it wasn’t because of that one grade.

An A- is not gonna hurt an application at all. Stanford does not even consider the + or - part of the letter grade and actually recalculates GPA. And there’s really no major difference between a 2340 and a 2400 that would cause an application to get rejected…

That sportsmanship award might help you. It could really show your character. But, not going to that great of a school could really hurt you, especially with your GPA and test scores.

@IvyObsessed1955 Your chances are very slim at best. Your grades and standardized test scores aren’t up to par, and you don’t have the ECs to compensate. Sorry if I sound too harsh. Also, forgive me for being insensitive/racist/stereotypical or whatever, but being Asian isn’t exactly a hook. If anything, it works against you.

@IvyObsessed1955 I agree with ivy!! Your hooks also look good and could really help, but I think the biggest thing hurting you is your school. Is there any reason you didn’t choose another school (sorry if this is too personal)?? Sportsmanship looks great, do you think your character really shone through in your app? I think a lot of your results could hinge on that. Stanford tends to really focus on applicant character in making their decisions.

Gosh really hmm I didn’t think my chances were that bad… but I really do think my essays were amazing I really poured my soul into them. I’ve had some less than ideal events happen in my life and I think that really helped my to write some personal essays.

do you have any hooks? It really helps to have hooks!

Guys, a lot of your resumes are extremely impressive, but I just hope you’re all aware that the chancing that happens on here is by no means an assurance of rejection or acceptance. Anything can happen, and I just want you all to know that you’ll do great things no matter where you end up. From the looks of it, most of the people posting in here are passionate and driven, and dedicated to a cause.

Thanks afamelas that makes me feel a lot better!

@afamelas Great words of wisdom! I definitely am passionate and driven. Let’s hope the adcomm sees that.

@ivybound456 Can I first state that you are the most impressive person I have ever met?! The only problem I can see is that you have not seen much adversity in your life, which is not any fault of your own. Hey, if Stanford does not take you, I can bet you will be okay.

@afamelas agreed

@camestrada Thanks, that was the goal…
