***Stanford Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@ivybound456 I think it totally depends on your essays. Your on paper app is virtually perfect. Now you just need phenomenal essays to distinguish yourself from all the other geniuses of the world

Sorry I’m just trying to get a better sense of my chances based on everyone else. @Elrathia or anyone else who frequently posts would you mind posting some stats you all sound so knowledgeable already just want to see how I fare!

When you’re on the Stanford Logo wear store dreaming about the sweatshirt you want to buy but can’t because you might be rejected.

Meanwhile, I cringe every time I see my 650 Writing score. Do you guys think it’ll hurt my chances significantly?

one more week…

@IvyObsessed1955 I guess I’m just speaking from personal experience here. I know four people who got into stanford in the last three years, and about 10 who got rejected. The four who got in were pretty much like @ivybound456 in terms of the on paper app. Nothing super remarkable, all clearly intelligent and driven.

The other 10 who got rejected, I’d say about three or four had comparable stats, but they didn’t get in. We don’t know why, but I think it was the essays. The rest of the rejects were still great applicats–ton of extra curriculars with leadership positions, 2100+ SAT scores, and 3.75+ GPAs. But they didn’t get it. I can’t say whether it was their academics or their essays or their ECs, but something stopped Stanford from accepting them.

Also, the four who got in distiguished themselves in terms of intellect. And by this I don’t mean good grades, but they were all people I would describe as “cerebral.” Loved learning for the sake of learning, and always kept themselves informed about things that interested them. They are all some of the smartest people I’ve met, and they all wrote phenomenal essays (I’ve read them).

@potatoheadhala I think that’s not bad, I have an even lower score than that and I think we could have a chance!

@afamelas wow you sound like you have really great stats! But work experience may affect your chances, I forgot to say it in my chances post but I’ve worked the past few years at fast food restaurants and retail stores which I hope will show some good work ethic!

@IvyObsessed1955 Do you think that my work stuff will be sufficient? I mean it was for an NGO but I feel like I contributed a lot!!

@stannyhopeful if you really made a huge impact then yes I think that would be great! But also it’s not necessarily a substitute for actual work so I’m not sure

This thread has gotten really active suddenly. Is everyone anxious?

YES!!!

anxious + weekend = tons of activity

@potatoheadhala I know I am!!! How are y’all feeling?

@potatoheadhala SO ANXIOUS!

@IvyObsessed1955 If you want to get a more accurate sense of who gets in or not, check out last year’s results threads:

@Elrathia thanks! I’ve looked at last year’s threads though it’s intimidating but I really want to see how I compare to people in our year too if you could just post some basic stats maybe that would be great I would really appreciate it!

Haha, good to know, guys! I’m trying to distract myself, but I have two tests this weekend, so I guess it’ll be easy. Just curious, where is everyone from?

@Elrathia I would love to see your stats too!

Could someone please chance me to help me deal with the anxiety towards next Friday???
