Same problem, too much work here as well.
Game of Thrones!
Hey guys! After lurking here for a while, I’ve finally decided to post. I’m getting so nervous waiting for a decision–after reading all of your posts, I was a little intimidated, so I met with a Brown college admissions officer who is a close family friend. We went over how Ivy League and other top-notch schools assess their candidates. I made a spreadsheet of the qualifications of everyone who has posted stats on this thread to find out how I rank up. I placed emphasis on unweighted GPA and extracurriculars (quantified based on input from the admissions officer). SAT/ACT scores had a slightly lower weighting. I found out that I was 78th percentile. I would be happy to share any of your percentiles if you have posted enough details.
Here are my stats:
GPA: 4.1
SAT: 2380
ACT: 36
SAT II Math II: 800
SAT II Physics: 780
SAT II Chemistry: 800

BC Calculus (5)
Physics 1 (5)
Physics C (M, E and M) (4)

Rank/Percentile:
There’s no ranking at my school, but I’m salutatorian out of 811 students.

Do you think I have a shot?
@scioprez3 Honestly, your app seems good. But remember, its not just this but also how you write the essays. And no one has a chance per se. However, you should apply.
Ok, I have a question for all of you who say, “chance me, I chance back:” if you are knowledgeable enough about admissions to chance someone else, why do you ask to be chanced? It makes no sense to me.
Btw my previous comment was not in any way directed at @scioprez3
@potatoheadhala Homeland. You need to watch this show. It gives me the feels every time and is so action packed and twisted, A very nice break from those loathsome melodramatic soap operas.
Well let me say that we’ll all be okay not matter what. I want to ask some advice. I want to avoid large student loans and my parents don’t have the money to pay for Stanford. I have been accepted to the University of Alabama and Pepperdine University and have received enough merit scholarships to attend both for about $10,000/yr. If by a miracle I get accepted to Stanford would you guys just accept loans for $250,000 or go to the other schools? My specs are as follows:
3.7 unweighted GPA
21 out of 492 class rank(top 5%) public California high school
34 ACT
Took all AP’s that my school offered. All A’s one B
Math tutor for at risk kids
Volunteer Kitten Rescue
Hook: Native American
Great School-lots of debt or good schools-very little debt? Which would you choose?
@chunkylumbee Stanford has some STELLAR financial aid. If I remember right, I think I saw a statistic that read “70% of students graduate debt free.” I would definitely see what kind of package you would get before you make any rash decisions. Best of luck!
@chunkylumbee Have you looked at Stanford’s net price calculator, or are you going off the assumption that your family isn’t going to get aid? Stanford is extremely generous when it comes to financial aid in the form of grants that do not need to be repaid. If your household income is less than 65k, you don’t have to pay a penny. If it’s less than 125k, you only have to pay room and board (~15K). After that, aid is given on a sliding scale, with grants going to families that make up to 250K. Stanford i
When are early action notifications supposed to come out? Also, how much does the interview count in admissions? Idk I had a pretty serious general surgeon as an interviewer and I couldn’t connect with her all that much… Wish you all the best of luck!
@Dorfdude8 I wouldn’t worry about the interview much - they don’t offer it to everyone and more than anything, it’s to sell Stanford and get you excited.
REA notifs should be coming out this friday, 3pm PST. Best of luck as well!
you know you’re losing it when you’re over here reading every weekly horoscope for your sign that you can find that gives you any clue on how Friday will go :))
I find out literally minutes before the bell rings this Friday while I’m in my Spanish class… so nervous.
Okay guys, do you know what’s the craziest part of all of this? I can remember back to when I was a freshman thinking “everything I do in high school will be put towards getting into my dream school: Stanford” and that was four entire years ago. I remember thinking that high school would take forever and that I would have all this time. And now we’re embarking on our final days before decisions come out. It honestly feels so surreal that I’ll know my fate in less than 96 hours. I don’t think I’ve registered that just yet.
I really can’t connect with all the tension on this thread… Yeah Stanford is an AMAZING school but so is UCLA, Cal, Harvard, Princeton, Chicago, Columbia, Yale, Rice, USC, Vanderbilt… The list goes on. It only takes getting into one of these schools to KNOW you’re going to have an amazing undergraduate education, and even if I don’t get in, I’ll probably just shrug it off, finish the last few applications, and move on with my life.
I’m not in anyway hating. I do love Stanford and everything it stands for, but I just wanted to share my opinion
For financial aid, I think the number my year was under 225K you get something. That being said, I did not get anything and turned down 30K a year scholarship at USC for full price at Stanford. It was a hard decision but when I closed my eyes I just saw myself at Stanford, if that makes any sense. It is hard, but don’t worry about making school decisions quite yet. You have until May 1! A lot can change by then. Also, I didn’t have an interview, they don’t offer them to anyone in California so they can’t be crazy important. And like @Perbler said, there are a TON of amazing schools, more than on that list even! You don’t have to go to an Ivy or a UC or Stanford to be at a fantastic university. Smaller liberal arts colleges like Williams or even Lewis and Clark have some amazing programs. You will have the opportunity to make the most of your experience at whatever college you choose. You are all amazing students and people with great opportunities.
@Perbler Yeah same with me. I really do love Stanford, and would love to be accepted, but I just don’t find myself thinking about it too much. And being the obsessive type, I find it odd that I do not feel any anxiety towards my decision Friday. With the incredibly low odds for even high achieving students and my lack of worry, I don’t see the stars aligning come this Friday.
Investing too much emotional stock in one college, especially one like Stanford, can only be detrimental. They could fill their class with perfect scorers several times over… lack of qualification won’t be the issue for many of us.
Beautifully said @southeastkid
Tfw I realized we’re competing with both Malia Obama and Malala…
