@ih8collegeboard Would you get a W or something? I’m not sure about dropping but I know a lot of people who got C’s their second semester senior year. Stanford sends a letter of concern or something asking for an explanation and warning you but I don’t know anybody who actually got their invitation rescinded. If you hate it it’s probably fine, there’s no way that one class made them decide to admit you.
Can we start a deferred applicant thread?
How about a RD thread including the deferred folks as well (since we will be in the same pool)?
@FlippedBacon congrats!!! We should connect
@chunkylumbee
Damn, so it wasn’t my last post on this thread.
Mostly Indian colleges, to be honest. Thinking of Caltech and MIT, but it’s a very long shot.
@potatoheadhala wow man swinging for the fences. I like that. Sound like engineering might be your thing. What about UC-Berkeley are you from Cali? What are your safety schools?
@ivybound456 is fake af
@chunkylumbee
Yep, UC-Berkeley is on my list. I lived in California a long time ago, so that might have affected my choices. I even remember the mall next to Stanford where I bought a Ratchet and Clank game
I love science, and engineering is really interesting. For safeties, there’s one in India, and CWRU, the smaller UCs, and Rose-Hulman.
Also, I know people hate ‘chance’ threads, but would you mind looking at my profile and tell me? It’s on the Stanford Results thread, or I don’t mind PMing.
@potatoheadhala Sure I’ll take a look.
@potatoheadhala Very impressed with your academics. 800M SAT All A’s in four years of school. Your science awards!! Probably one of the smartest students I’ve seen stats on. But I think you named the flaw yourself when you said your application was not balanced. I’m not saying its right but Stanford is a school that values community service and the like. There has to be a way for you to address this when you apply to other top schools. Did you ever help tutor a fellow student? Did you help babysit a family member? I believe that someone of your level has done more EC’s than none. Looking back can you come up with something that you can use? You belong in an elite school.
I guess I’m a little late for this, but on receiving my rejection I allowed myself 1 day to be sad. I picked myself up, and now, I’m honestly feeling great. Wherever we all end up, we’re going to do great things.
And, when we become billionaires, and we’re donating a couple billion dollars to our alma mater, we’ll say,“Stanford, this could have been you.” Roll in sad music because I doubt Stanford would care but anyways xD
hi guys! someone applying rd here, just wondering if you guys wrote a brief explanation next to the books/films/authors/artists/magazines/websites they asked us to list? i’ve been stressing out over this, on one hand an explanation can give the admissions people more information about yourself but on the other hand the admissions officers may be pissed that you didn’t follow the directions exactly
anyways thanks for the help!
Hey guys! I’m an REA admit from Utah. Anyone else on here from UT? And @codegurle432 I included descriptions/explanations after all of my books/magazines. They were very short, i.e.
TED.com: Because their “Ideas Worth Spreading” educate and enlighten my inner nerd.
Duolingo.com: Some days I’m just in the mood to learn Danish. Or Esperanto.
(Plus a few more…)
@sambrentgood thanks so much and congrats!
Honestly, the worst part of the rejection was having to sit through and hear every single member of my friends and family go through and tell me all those cliches about how its all going to be alright. Hearing them over and over again just makes it 10x worst because they’re basically reminding you that you failed at something – plus I just happen to hate cliches haha
@chunkylumbee
Yep, I think I have to do a better job of explaining my circumstances to admissions. Of course, there are other times when I’ve helped people a lot, but overall, the system here is very different.
Let’s see what happens in March.
@hellolol
We can all dream!
@Zeppelin7 That is so true! I didn’t feel like talking to people about it, not because of the rejection, but because they would say the same old quotes that inspired 13-15 year olds post on facebook obsessively.
i think BMSis the best option
uh hey guys is there an RD applicant thread or is this it? Total crapshoot but totally worth it if its a yes.
