@yalebound2020 - agree. been too serious about college. Need to get cut the bars
@yalebound2020 that yale parents thread is full of minivan driving old school parents. There is no chance I would survive that for more than a few posts. there are posts about chocolate milk and inoculations there! brrrr!!!
@khanam - wrong thread! It’s the Yale 2020 thread. There are a few parents there writing such as TPerry1982, which have plenty of really good info to share.
@yalebound2020 ok i will check that out then.
Wondering if anyone had applied for a Mathematics major and has got a LL?
Hey everyone - so I got an email from my interviewer saying the Admissions Office had informed him that they “intend to invite me to join the Stanford Class of 2020 next month.” So YAY (lowkey freaking out), but I can’t help but wonder if it’s some weird glitch? I’ve been away from home, so I haven’t checked my snail mailbox… anyone get a similar email?
Wow congrats! That’s amazing
@elk1819 Congrats!! And if it’s from your interviewer I highly doubt its a glitch & it’s not likely many people received an email. Interviewers are typically told ahead of time whether or not the school intends to admit whoever they interviewed but I’m pretty sure they’re not supposed to tell whoever that person is. Nevertheless, congratulations!!
@shivaya Likely letters are very rare from Stanford. I am currently a freshman at Stanford and I only know one person who got one, he was an Intel Finalist. But, I know like 6 other Intel Finalists here and none of them got one. Likely letters depend on a lot of factors, like when your application is read before a certain time. Don’t worry about LLs. Also Stanford does not admit based on the school/major you apply for, I can promise you that. I don’t think they care about diversity of majors too much either in admissions since most people change their major. At the beginning of the year like 80% of kids I talked to were Computer Science majors but that is rapidly changing, lol.
Anyways good luck everyone! Hope to see some of you on campus next year!
PS: All my talk about intel finalists does not mean you have to be one to get in. I am an Asian male and I am nowhere near that accomplished
I just want to know! AH I’m scared!
@nandroida - Thank you so much for the detailed write-up. I know the probability are getting is extremely slim but I am definitely excited and still wonder deeply how Stanford admission evaluates “intellectual vitality”. Hope I get a chance to go to a place where this is truly valued.
Ok, so I just got home, and there was a snail mail likely letter waiting for me! Thanks to the well-wishers - best of luck and I hope to see you all at Admit Weekend!
@elk1819 Congrats! That is a big achievement. Do you live in the US? Are you an athlete?
@APersonsHistory Thanks! I live in Virginia and am not an athlete by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t consider myself particularly extraordinary either - I’m not an Intel finalist or anything like that. Feeling a little dazed - but grateful.
@elk1819 I love the modesty. Obviously, you are accomplished and lucky to get one. Take this time to celebrate!
@APersonsHistory Thank you! And good luck to you!!
@elk1819 congrats! You received mail on a Sunday? Was it delivered by courier or USPS?
@jamini Thanks! And nope, I just got back from a trip today and found it in my mail from last week. The date on the letter was March 3. Delivered by courier.
Just kidding, it was delivered by USPS, don’t know why I said that lol.
@elk1819 - Thats fantastic. Congratulations! You must have something very impressive in your application. May I request for your stats, ECs and any impressive accomplishments? Please share if you are comfortable with it.
