***Stanford Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

Has Stanford ever released decisions after Ivy Day?

@Scriant - I was deferred and the message on the portal actually just changed to “We will send you a final decision at the end of March, 2016” about a week ago. Safe to say before April 1st

@sodapop027 Okay, thanks for confirming that email.

To be honest, I don’t know which one I’d prefer…

April 1st is also dangerous because it’s April Fool’s Day

@smartypants57

Haha, I’m not sure anyone is cruel enough to prank students with Stanford acceptance letters.

@Anonymoose3 Or so one would hope.

@Anonymoose3 I’m sure they exist. But there’s lots of issues with them releasing on April Fool’s Day, not just prank letters - people could lie about getting in, people could think Stanford’s pranking them, etc.

I’ll be honest, I don’t so much see these issues.

  1. Stanford University would not "prank" applicants by sending them a false acceptance letter... or a false rejection letter. It simply would not ever happen. I think everyone applying to Stanford knows that.
  2. People could lie about getting in. People could always lie about getting in anywhere. However, that doesn't really affect anyone else, so I don't see how that's an issue. "ACCEPTED TO STANFORD!" "Lol JK April Fools I was rejected". OK? It might be a mildly annoying prank to pull, but I don't see how it's harmful to anyone.
  3. Prank letters (from third parties). Impossible. You find out results on the Stanford portals.

@scriant

@Anonymoose3 Yes, your points are all very valid. Well of course Stanford wouldn’t prank people, but that’s not going to stop people from thinking that. - college decisions are stressful and people get irrational.

I still don’t think it’ll be released April 1st though, for a lot of the other reasons as well, like colleges like to announce in March (before April 1st).

She said she was skimming through her emails casually and started reading the Stanford email before even realizing what it was she was reading. No mental preparation.

if i have a family member that donates a lot of money to stanford and is an active alumni, will that help my chances? Im not expecting to get in, but I am just curious

@thaliacat123 - yes, if they’re a parent or stepparent. Otherwise Stanford doesn’t count it as legacy.

Hey everyone! I just got a call from my regional admissions officer re: my likely letter and other things. During the call she mentioned that decisions would be released next week! Don’t quote me on that if it doesn’t end up being the case, but I think you guys can tentatively expect next Friday to be D-Day.

I’m so jealous of those who got interviews :((

@ThatGirlCoder if you didn’t get an interview because it wasn’t offered to you, then you’re not penalized at all.

I loved my interview with Stanford :wink: my interviewer and I just clicked instantly and we talked for over an hour about everything.

Mine was just regular ovo.

@ThatGirlCoder pls. I would have loved to have given u mine because I had done like 10 at that point

Same :slight_smile: I had around 10 interviews I learned from each one something new. It was a good experience for the future.

@smartypants57 I know that! I just would’ve loved the opportunity to get an extra perspective on who I am. Especially since I think interviewing is my strongest suit…

Can everyone please withdraw their applications real quick?
