Rejected. Really sucks cuz I donāt know what to do with my summer now.
Hi - Anyone got in from India?
@ShawneeBoy did you get a rejection emailā¦? Cause I didnāt receive any email at allā¦?
@Arpitr20 Yep. A short, cold letter that told me about the ārecord number of applicantsā they had this year, and how their decision was ānot an easy one to makeā. :ā(
Maybe check your spam?
Rejected:(
Was kinda expecting this because my solutions for 6b, 7b and 7c were a little shady (I wasnāt even too convinced by myself), and then I didnāt do the best job improving the boundary for 8c. I tried my best solving all 10 problems though, and I was proud of myself for finishing the entire problem set.
Still a little disappointed because I spent the most time on SUMaC application than any other math camp but still got rejected. Oh wellā¦
Anyways, congratulations to everyone that got accepted and good luck to everyone on the waitlist!
Had anyone on the waitlist heard anything back from them? I was waitlisted as well. Was just curious what is my chance of getting in if I am waitlisted.
Hi.
Does anyone know how I could possibly contact them? I tried emailing, but got no response.
Can people who got in post their stats?
I was rejected and thought that I would have nothing to do this summer, but I recently received a letter from SUMaC that there are available places for me in the pre-colligate summer institute. Has anyone received the same letter? It is kind of interesting.
I got that too
Oh, so are you going to attend the summer institute? I am planning to attend session 1.
Maybe, i am conflicted between that and spending time on my research paper
Ok, good lucks. I really want to pm you, but I could not because I havenāt posted 15 comments yet. I am a Chinese student from Beijing, and I know no one who is going to attend the same summer program.
Sure are you available somewhere else? We could talk there; I am most probably coming anyways xP
may be email, because my VPN is really poor. 1085536502@qq.com
@s0731u I was accepted to program 1 and am currently a sophomore. I solved all of the problems except 7b. I donāt really do competitions and have never taken the AIME. I have a 1500 psat (perfect math), 800 math subject test, and all As and A+s in school. I have taken MVC and Linear Alg. The teacher who wrote my rec thinks VERY highly of me academically but doesnāt know me particularly well, so idk how personal/specific the letter was. I donāt think grades and scores matter much at all (theyāre high for everyone) and lack of competition experience didnāt seem to hurt.
The written responses are probably the main deciding factor among the people who solve most of the exam problems. My written responses were probably less corny then most others that only talked about how beautiful math is, and i tried to be very specific and genuine in explaining why i wanted to go to SUMaC.
@s0731u Yeah I ended up getting accepted to program I too (EDIT: I was waitlisted, then accepted a week ago or so) as a sophomore ā I solved every problem, but a few were a bit shady (although I was really proud of getting a solution to 7b, which I donāt think many people found)ā¦ Iām not really a competition math person, but Iāve been qualifying for the AIME for a while (never did exceptionally well on it though).
About grades, I had mostly straight As except for a B+ in freshman english. My psat was t e r r i b l e (read as: 1450), so that was definitely not helpful (although I did have a perfect in math ā Iām just really bad at reading comp.). I have been taking pretty advanced math courses for a while (finishing up Linear algebra and ordinary differential equations this year, took MVC last year). I really have no clue how my LOR wasā¦ I think all of this doesnāt really contribute to your application as much though ā most of their decision is based on problem set + written responses.
And I would have to agree with @User111299 about written responses. In those, I really just tried to make mine more unique.
