When did you apply and when did you hear back? I know a lot of people who have received letters form Harpur but none from the SOM. And you stats if you can?
anyone else still waiting to hear who has an ACT of 33 or more with an UW GPA of at least 3.5?
Yeah @margarett we haven’t heard from Binghamton
Thanks, grotonMadad. Can you tell me please when your transcripts and test scores were received by them?
common app and test scores 10/2 and transcript 10/20
wow. That’s earlier than my son. I just don’t get it. It sounds crazy to wonder if an application can be “lost” but I cnanot think of another option. Yes, they have a lot of apps to go thru, but I would have thought that higher scores would have attracted their attention earlier. I wish my son would contact admissions to see if they have looked at his app, but he doesn’t want to.
@margarett …maybe they are decidsing on the entire packet . because the scholorships are equally important. i am sure he will get in …maybe another day or 2… good luck…!!
@comom25 Thank you for your encouraging words. What do you mean by “the entire packet”? If you mean every part of the application, it had seemed to me that scores and grades were overwhelming the deciding factors for EA.
@anxiousapp34 I totally agree with you about reconsidering interest in this school. I feel the same way. They seem to be strictly numbers based where other schools seem to consider more than that.
@margarett I feel your frustration. We’re still waiting as well. I don’t think our kids should call the school though. It doesn’t help, nor does it speed up the process. The official date is January 15. All we can do is patiently wait till we hear before that date.
We have sent everything in very early also but I doubt that the date of our submission has any impact on when we hear back. It’s not a FIFO process.
@WilliamNYC - I just don’t know what to think. Is it really impossible for an application to get “lost”? I hope no other school uses this process where people applying EA can be informed over the course of 2 whole months. How does it benefit them? My son applied to UMD as well, but everyone finds out the same day towards the end of Jan. so it doesn’t occupy people’s minds. It makes me wonder how many years it has been since these admissions counselors graduated college. They must have no memory of what they went through.
@margarett. Your son has received a confirmation that they received his application and has access to his portal yeah? That means they have his application and it’s just in the queue to get decided upon. There’s a lot of ways for admission officers to tackle this big pile of records to go through and we don’t how they go about that job. We have to trust that they know what they’re doing…
That being said… I totally agree with you that this slow release of results is just a horrible thing to do to us. I seriously don’t understand why they do it this way. There cannot be a good reason for this approach. And if there is a benefit, I certainly don’t see it.
Saw a lot of people posting about Bing being number-based so wanted to share my daughter’s stats. Daughter got accepted last week into Harpur and was also very nervous about stats before getting accepted.
ACT: 30, SAT: 1360, 94 UW. Decent ECs.
@WilliamNYC I hear everything you are saying. We may have to trust that they know what they are doing b/c we have no choice, but I have to say that I really don’t. We see that the first week of accepting in state they only took those with 34 or 35 ACT or 1500+ on the SAT. So they do go through and pull what they want from the whole stack. So why did those with ACTs of 30 and 31 get acceptances a week ago and we are left hanging?
You must be naturally more patient than me!
I was accepted to Harpur the second day they released decisions with a 31 ACT and 3.6 gpa. I think this year is not as numbers-based as previous years have been because if this were last year I probably would have been deferred.
@margarett - Ithaca is doing the same thing with my son. He applied to Buffalo, Bing and Ithaca EA on Nov. 1. He was accepted to Bing and Buffalo but is still waiting to hear from Ithaca even though his stats are higher than many of the people that have been accepted over the past 45 days. Ithaca has this creepy peer thing which shows all of the applicants’ names, home towns, high schools and their acceptance status. Many applicants (mostly girls) are posting their pictures, facebook pages, instagram, snapchats, etc. My son does not even have a facebook page.
@xi8a4go There is no way to know for sure, of course.
@nodebtforme Thanks for sharing. My son does not have a facebook page either! I hope Ithaca is not posting all of this info about admitted students without their permission!
I was accepted tonight to Harper! Yay! I’m in state and have a 3.7 UW GPA and a 29 on the ACT.
