For anyone who got deferred, do you get an email saying that you got deferred and also what does the deferral message say? Still waiting from Watson
how do you know if you get any merit scholarships?
It was on DD’s acceptance letter she received about a week after the email notification.
did anyone from westchester ny get accepted yet?
@lcprend still waiting here for D - but at least one of her HS peers got accepted already - but i don’t have any details of stats
so I would think there is one more wave of decisions. What day do we think this will happen?
Are there any decent chances some people actually get accepted in the last wave. Feel like big majority will probably get deferred or denied
Is their group chat for class of 2022?
I am disgusted. My son got an email that the school cannot accept him to SOM, to try to apply to Harpur. This is with a 3.4 UW and 3.75W GPA from a dual curriculum high school, mostly honors and APs, and a high 33ACT: 36E, 34M, 32R, 31S. Disgusted.
also plenty of ECs, including leadership roles and 300 volunteer hours.
what time did he get the email ?
4 pm
Really? Not even a deferral? That seems strange with his Act scores. Maybe you can call the admissions counselor in his area just to see what the story is. Maybe they can shed some light on the situation. I would think that they would defer him to RD at the very least. Something seems off in my opinion. @margarett
@margarett In addition to reaching out to your local regional admissions representative (i.e., the rep assigned to the area where your high school is located, you should also have your chair of your guidance counselor office contact the admissons rep. It is Highly unusual to be told this so early --in January–with your son’s high 98% tile ACT score and having taken mostly all honors and AP with a 3.7 gpa. Did he take any business courses or participate in any business-oriented extracurricular activities? If his application was devoid of any sense of business or leadership interest, that might explain why. But until you inquire you won’t know.
@trackmbe3 He is the President of the Stock Market club in his school. He is taking AP Macro and AP Calc, and just finished taking Acct I in a university connected with his High School.
@euve69 He was given the option of changing his application to Harpur. Not interested.
@margarett your story doesn’t leave me w much hope
@love3kids Who the heck knows. Good luck to you.
I agree!! Do not settle on Harpur. Not with his ACT scores and course curriculum. However, reach out to the admissions rep and have the guidance counselor reach out as well. Something does not make sense.
Same as @margarett. My student applied in Oct to SOM. 4.0W, 3.75 UW, 30 act. Received an email at 4:01 that “Admission to the SOM was highly competitive and space was limited. We are unable to offer youadmission to the SOM at this time, but given your strong academics, we have a unique opportunity for you to consider”.
They will review the app for Harpur and they outline 3 biz pathways:
- Harpur Fast-Track MBA Program
- Management Adjunct program (can take core biz courses through SOM, but they are taught online
- Bing’s pre-professional organizations can be utilized as an extra layer of resources to meet with recruiters, alumni and current students who are interested in similar areas of study.
Anyone have any thoughts on this option?
We have other really great options to consider but not certain what to make of this.
@euve69 Thanks for your words. I’m sure it is all for the best, but I still am disgusted with their whole long dragged out process of admittance and frankly I am stunned that he was not, at the very least, deferred.
