Swarthmore Early Decision Support Group

wow! 100 ED applicants? how did you hear that? and yeah, i guess they’re doing it via mail. well i’m hoping for the best. my sat scores are kind of on the low side… which really scares me. hopefully my essay makes up for it. ahhh this is making me really nervous. i cant concentrate on anything else.

oh andd if the number was actually THAT low(its kind of surprising… i dont really believe it) it would mean theres more chance. but i dont think that would mean theyre gonna accept anyone… i mean swarthmore rejects many well qualified applicants every year.

yea, I’m kinda in the same boat as you…my ACT scores are decent, but some consider them to be on the low side. I am a little skeptical about that number, but then again, with the economy I could definitely see a decrease in applicants.

I heard from a “little birdie” in admissions. I heard this number the day before the ED apps were due, so I’m guessing its pretty accurate. I was so surprised when I heard, but it really is a reflection of the current economy; no one wants to commit to such a pricey school without knowing what financial aid they will receive.

I’m no admissions officer, but I would expect and heard from a family friend who is an admissions officer at St. Joe’s that they will probably accept most of the applicants; once again I can’t be sure. Swat usually takes about half of their freshman class from ED, so I would imagine that they would accept more people with such a low number of applicants. Last year I think they accepted about 150 of the 400 ED applicants and I can’t imagine that they are expecting 300 apps for ED 2.

Since I heard from admissions on Wednesday that the apps were going before the committee that day I have been a nervous wreck. All of my friends are tired of hearing me talk about Swarthmore and how nervous I am.

It will be such a relief when that letter comes.

I also was extremely skeptical about that number when I heard it, but I’m just putting out there.

after a conversation with a teacher, we decided that if the apps went before the committee on Wednesday, there is a good chance that the letters went out on Friday…which means that it will probably be any day now…once again, that’s just speculation…I’m just trying not to psych myself up in case the worse happens.

wow… that is really surprising. and you’re right, there wont be 300 ED2’s. most people who are dying to go to swarthmore are likely to have submitted their apps for ED1… hm i actually got a call from swarthmore last wednesday about my ED Agreement not being sent and I sent it on thursday. would that mean my decisions gonna be delayed? AHH this is driving me crazy. when i first submited my app i swear i wasnt this crazy lol. and i feel yaa ive been talking about swarthmore to my friends all day everyday haha

Yeah, my guidance counselor said the same thing. I live an hour and a half from Swarthmore, but the mail system in my area is not the best haha. We should hear sometime this week though. Well, thats just a guess.

Tieeris, I got a call and email on Wednesday also; I don’t think your decision will be delayed though. Did your email say they were sending the apps into the admissions committee that afternoon?

also, if that number was the day before the deadline, then it definitely is not all the applicants…i sent mine a few days before the deadline, but it got there 2 days after it…which was perfectly fine since it was postmarked…I am just ready to find out!

I just can’t imagine that they would receive a HUGE number of apps the day of the deadline. Especially since it was a Sunday.

hm… i never got an email? i faxed my ED agreement and gave them a call to make sure they got it and they said everything will be fine.

yea, but with online submissions, there may have been a slight increase…I mean, still, probably not a lot, but it is a possibility. I am just ready to get this letter…the suspense is killing me.

Oh, see I got an email during school that they were missing a signed copy of my ED agreement form and they needed one ASAP. So, I faxed one right away and called to make sure it got there.

“Our deans are going into Committee this afternoon and they have requested your signed Early Decision Agreement.”

That’s what the email said. I’m assuming that means they were making the decision that afternoon? Not totally sure though.

so im guessing there couldve been around 200 ish ED applicants, considering you heard there were around 100 the day before. how am i even going to open the envelope? oh dear.

hahaha…I am really tempted to hold it up to a light before I open it! but i’m sure that there will be a small difference in the thickness of the envelopes.

I might ask one of my parents to open it for me hahaha, not sure I can handle opening it myself.

Everyone has to post as soon as they hear!

haha there should be SOME difference… maybe theyll use thinner paper for accepted applicants? i dont know. ahhhhh by the way, do you all have good sat/act scores? my CR score is horrible… this is making me as twice as nervous!

part of me thinks that my mom might be pulling the letter to the light trick when it comes in…hahaha…

yea, I will definitely let you guys know!

I didn’t submit my SAT scores, I was much more satisfied with my ACT scores…and while my ACT scores were good, some may say that they were a little on the low side for Swat…and surprisingly, I am not as nervous as I was a couple hours ago…it’s nice to talk to someone that is going through the same thought process as myself.
