Swarthmore Early Decision Support Group

I’m the only one in my class who seems to like Kafka! Everyone in my AP English class seems to be so afraid of existentialism, but I love it. My school doesn’t offer any economics class, but I’m not very left brained - at all. Maybe I would enjoy it, who knows.

Hamlet… hahaha brings back memories. Last year my class did Hamlet in the last three or four days of the semester. That was by far the most rushed thing I ever had to do in my life!

yea, this paper is not a successful attempt at all…but I’ll get it done. I’m just really glad that my Literary Analysis isn’t due at the moment, because that ends up being about a 17 page paper…and the lowest.

I actually take economics online…in Virginia there is a program called Virtual Virginia and it offers AP classes where schools don’t have the resources to have the teachers to teach the course…so I’m taking 4 AP Classes online…I still have a teacher, but I don’t have a teacher that is there to show me everything step by step…so I somewhat teach myself.

Yep, Obama was rejected from Swarthmore. That was one of the first things I read about the school, which is really scary!

haha im reading hamlet after winter break for my humanities class! im not taking ap english because i chose to take humanities instead. i love it thoughh

I just read that, too! Let me replay my reaction in dramatic writing format:

Reading the blog…“Even President Obama didn’t get in to Swarthmore!”

Swat2014 – Whoa. I’m screwed.

Begins applying to safety schools.

hjohnston2010 thats really awesome! I was going to take calculus online through MIT, then I found out my school wouldn’t give me credit for it… I wish my high school was better about helping students who want to take courses that aren’t offered in our building. Theres options at the local community college, but my senior classes are more challenging…

yea, I’ve taken AP Psychology, and I’m taking AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Comparative Govt and Politics, and AP Human Geography online. It’s nice that I have the opportunity, because if not this year I would have to have taken classes that I didn’t really want to take…like turf management.

So jealous! I wanted Psychology, but they only offer a basic level Psychology class at my high school. I petitioned for at least an honors class and had no luck; I was so disappointed because I really wanted to take the class, but it would have messed with my class rank and stuff. :(

yea…i definitely understand that…they actually offered a basic level Psych class at my school this year because there was such a demand.

I hate how school administrations seem to stand in the way of kids who want to go beyond the norm and explore there true interests without being penalized for it
… another reason to love Swat :)

It seems that Swat applicants are all alike. I tried to start a group independent study in AP European History for this year; we had a teacher for it and everything. But because it violated a clause in the contract with the labor union (and the principal wanted anything but to ask the labor union for lenience), I’m stuck with AP Psych in its place.

Exactly! My school does nothing to facilitate intelligent students who want to do more than what the course of studies offers. LAst year they tried to eliminate the AP track all together because there weren’t enough students to keep it running. I’ve been in the AP track all four years of high school and it seems totally ludicrous to me that they want to eliminate it!

I can’t wait for college.

i wanted to take psyche, but i couldnt fit in into my schedule because of 2 hour humanities and orchestra. :frowning: ohwell ive still got college to explore different areas.

haha soo i keep having these weird feelings…ive been feeling like im on a rollercoaster, like my heart keeps sinking in rising…yaa know what i mean? im soo nervous what the heck! haha my friends think im so weird hahahaha its just really differnet applying to swarthmore in my area, becuase most people in my school apply to Michigan.

I am glad that my state started this program! it was started by former VA Governor Mark Warner and has been greatly beneficial at my school being as we are in a very economically depressed area of VA.

tieeris - University of Michigan?

Pennsylvania wouldn’t even keep the governor’s schools open… The public education system seriously needs to be reformed, but I won’t get on my soap box about education. My presentation at the NCTE conference was about a progressive way of teaching and learning that really empowers the student. That’s what I’m really passionate about. I always say I want to shake the foundation of the public education system.

yuup. i applied ther as well, just not as early because i was too lazy. im supposed to hear back this week or next week…

i totally have the roller coaster feeling!
like i calm down for a couple minutes and freak our for a couple minutes hahah
if i get rejected i dont know if i can wait until april for other schools
its torture.

too bad we can put “freaked out on college confidential for a month” on the app
that would show interest hahahaha

hahah omg i wanna put that on my app too. i wonder if admission officers ever look at these…
