Testudo FinAID "My Budget"

twilight. that depends if you are saying you award is up and that is what it says. If those are the only numbers that are there, then yes. But your EFC is pretty high, so you won't likely see anything other then student loans, unfortunately.

usafa,

yikes. lol

hmm I got a question
although my efc is 0.00 and my unmet need is 0, my total aid offer is 3000 short of the coa

Will I have to fork over the $3000? The majority of my aid package is grants and the president scholarship if it helps

yeah my financial aid sucked too

i figured out that the total need is the amount they needed to give you to reach your EFC
and the unmet need is how far away from the total need they are.

for example if i needed 30,000 and they gave me 10,000
my unmet need is 20,000 because they only gave me 10,000 of what I actually needed

I got so much more money from Syracuse today so I think I'm not going to be a Terp anymore..

congrats, but we're sorry to be losing another terp! (unless we can take your UMD $$!!!)

can i have the link to this my budget thing

Apparently Spring Admits won't hear about their financial aid package until mid-October. If you enroll in Freshmen Connection, however, you find out by April 1 like everyone else. The problem is that you can't register for FC unless you commit to the Spring. So my understanding is that if the financial aid is less than expected and you decide not to enroll in the spring, then you would lose your deposit. Has anyone else heard differently? This seems a little unfair to me in that you have to commit before you know how UMD compares to other schools' award packages.

Does anyone know if you can appeal your financial aid package and if you can how does that process work?

Yeah im also trying to appeal/negotiate my financial aid package… also, i already pressed Submit on the My Award page, so does that mean the offer is FINAL? I really wana negotiate the offer

Does anyone know if they ever mail this information?

Both above-I’m assuming the first step would be to call the Financial Aid office, the least help they can be is pointing you in the right direction.

No, I don’t think they mail the financial aid info. You’ll find that UMD really mails very little stuff…it’s all online communications. You’ve got to watch your UMD email for notifications, etc.

This is probably a stupid question, but where can I go to check my umd email. I already created one but I am not sure where to to go.

SmajoHurko,

Refer back to your 2009 Fresman Guide to Orientation booklet that came in the mail. Page 2 has lots of information about your ID’s etc.

To check your email, go to www.mail.umd.edu

Hope this helps!

i dont think i ever received a freshman guide to orientation booklet… do you receive these once you confirm your enrollment? because im not decided yet

nYc91,

All the information is online. Go to the Orientation section online and it’s all there.

For the umd mail, what login are you supposed to use?

gina,

You use your Directory ID. Your email address is the Directory ID plus the @umd.edu

I haven’t confirmed enrollment just yet. I want to see my financial aid packet. Can I register without confirming enrollment?

@ Jewels, that doesn’t work for me, and all I accomplished is resetting my password to a random combination of letters and numbers.
