The Indian Thread #19

I remember starting my college search exactly one year back… I was really non-serious about my college search since I thought I would study in India etc. But then I stumbled upon College Confidential and to be very honest, this website is the reason why I applied. I wasn’t planning on doing so as such.
On the advice of a few people here, I left coaching sometime in July and I obviously made the correct decision, since, well, I have the 7th best engineering school in the world in my kitty already
I guess I planned out stuff properly because of CC… Its an amazing resource, really. I wish I could show my appreciation somehow. I’m pretty sure that everyone- pix, arunemo, debarghya, itsmylife, tippu, etc. fully agree with me!

Nice endorsement for CC! Most people here would agree with u ani. CC has given me much more than info about colleges …

Greetings, fellow Indians! Good luck with your college admissions (and special good wishes to Princeton applicants.) :)

@anjalista
What is MHC?
And I don’t think anybody can recommend you a college without your stats.

@aniruddhc
Where’d you get in?

Mount Holyoke. I’m also thinking of HYPSM, USC, Wellesley, Dartmouth, and some other schools I’m still lookingg. Do you have any tips for figuring out how to make a list since it is tough to make a list?

Another complication is that I’m moving so I’ll be in a different city for my final year. Will that make applying harder?

Call me anjali :).

Hi Anjali, Luce!
I am also 2016er!
Just following the seniors this year to get some clues for next years’ applications!
Have you taken SAT yet?
I appeared for SAT (1st try!) on 22nd Jan.

Wholeheartedly agreed with Tippu and Aniruddhc. CC is truly a wealth of information. It’s also a place filled with a bunch of motivated, talented and helpful people. I have made some very special friends from here.

Unfortunately, I only joined CC AFTER I applied.

Hi Chikoo,
How did it go for the SAT? I am lucky that I have already taken all my SAT and SAT subject tests, so, basically I am done with testing. I am already working on some essay topics.
And Anjali, how about you?

I haven’t been on here for ages!
How have you been Pixie, Aniruddh, Tippu, and the rest of the old TiTers? And a warm Bonjour to the new people here-Anjali, Chromey, Chikoo, and anyone else I may have left out.
CC is an amazing resource; it has its shortcomings, but overall its been a wonderful experience. I’ve learnt so much, probably would’ve never applied to one university had it not been for TiT, and shared experiences with random people who turned out to be incredibly supportive. After joining CC, I’ve probably violated the first 120 rules of Internet Safety 101, but it was all completely worth it.
(Unless one of you is a serial stalker. In which case be warned, I know Karate AND I have a taser under my pillow).

I’m drowning in assignments and I cannot swim :(

^Buy a boat.

Haha, I know right :P

Georgia Tech (and a few others actually). Check THE World University Rankings for engg lol. Waiting for 5 others though

SO true. CC is like a genius symposium.

Wow. Talk about planning ahead!

Taser under your pillow? Are you SERIOUS? Damn. Thank you for cautioning me beforehand :D

The IB is a swirling whirlpool inferno so treacherous that even the most adept swimmers would be snapped up like fish crackers. Lifeboats are out of the question.

I am slightly(?) neurotic right now due the number of deadlines and papers everywhere, forgive me.

Haha I was kidding. Taser under my pillow, lame. I keep a katana, actually.

You guys seem a nice lot! I’m glad I found CC!
So, if you don’t mind me asking, where have you all applied to?

Hi accioquote.

Hi Nemo. Long time no see. How have you been? Have you been taking a photo every day? Would you mind sharing some of them some day? (I hope you won’t promise and then conveniently forget like someone. ;))

Almost everyone has tuned out in our school. They are either too tense waiting for admission results or don’t care. TOK teacher left on maternity leave (most boys in our class had huge crush on her and it was a major disappointment …) and the two who replaced her are clueless. I think physics teacher has reached her limits and we are done with CS. We are entering some programming contest and we have to use C# which I hate. (It is another one of those me-too products from Microsoft.) History teacher understands that most people are tense and he is taking it easy. Math teacher is a kind old man and he is teaching us stuff beyond what is prescribed for our class. Only class people care for is Mr.Bliss’s English. Quite often, a few girls from other divisions attend his classes for the sheer “joy”.

Happened in my school this year ;)

Me too product from MS hahahahaahahhahahahahahaa

Annnd, katana? Seriously neem? :open_mouth:
I for one know that I shouldn’t be messing with you henceforth :P

Welcome back Nemo. We missed you. btw, do you know that in latin, nemo literally means “nobody”?
Tippu, I am impressed with your curriculum: you learn C in High School ?

Thank you Ani: It has a lot to do with my lurking on CC for many years.

I think your keyboard is mightier than any katana.

Lucy, at school they teach Java and C# but I got opportunities to learn and use a few other languages (c/c++, python and matlab) elsewhere.

Haha I’ve been trying. This month has been choppy, but I did get pretty much one everyday. Next month should be easier, and I’ll be experimenting with film too
I could upload them on flickr if you want, I was planning on uploading mine on Fb as it were to keep me motivated.

You would think senioritis would kick in by now, but with the excess of deadlines, I’m in way more of a frenzy than usual. I will probably become incredibly lazy in February, however  It’s funny how all of the people who’re going to the States are all kicking back and relaxing, while everyone else is so worried about the three points from TOK+EE. Btw Tippu, what did you do your final TOK essay on? I chose topic 8. Still writing it, doesn’t sound too good so far :/

Haha Luce I am aware Nemo means nobody in Latin. I prefer to think of my namesake as the Fish though, not Latin :p

Why thank you! I disagree but oh well.
The Keyboard is mightier than the Katana; new proverbs for the globalized world :D

Topic #10 (the one on models). IMHO, topic #8 (PP quote) is the toughest. You are really good.

Do you follow any particular theme? Nature, people?
