The Indian Thread #19

Hi Tippu! Holiday today! so sitting around doing research for colleges. You?

This is my ice cream eating time. I do this almost every night before going to bed. (I come here just to hang out with my friends from India.)

Anjali, don’t get too addicted to CC. You will regret next year when you have to prepare for board exams.

Are you already in college?

^ No, just waiting for results like most.

Good luck! I’m so nervous for the process.

Are we allowed to chat here?

I can understand. If you follow threads on Indian forum for another 3 months then you will know who is going where and I am sure they will give you good tips.

When do you plan to take SAT?

I took this month. I was thinking of taking ACT in Apr or June.

Nice chatting with you Anjali. Good luck with admission process. Bye.

Every piece of communication b/w u and the college is not to be perceived as a sign of acceptance/rejection/level-of-interest

It was sent out to all applicants.

Hello, guys. Been stalking you all for ages. Finally decided to make a post. :)

I got one from Berkeley too.
I deleted it immediately.

I didn’t get any from Berkeley! What the hell man! I’m pretty sure I got rejected already lol.
When did you guys receive it?

And yes Anjali, we’re allowed to chat in here :)

To all lurkers: Come out of the closet and say hi once in a while lol

I had long wanted to ask this question to UC Indian applicants but always kept forgetting.

In the UCs academic requirement section, they say that there has to be a course from Visual and Performing Arts category.
This is what it says:

But in our curriculum there is no yearlong course for this (or is there?). What did you guys do for this?

^ +1

Why did you delete it?

Yours must be on its way :D

I got the e-mail at around 5 in the morning today. I’m pretty sure it’s sent out to all applicants.

And hello Anjali. :)

@Tippu- Nahh, I did not. Hopefully.

My ‘+1’ was for Ani’s comment lol.

@compscifan

I didn’t mention any such course. I’m sure (rather I’m hopeful) that they understand the Indian curriculum, and the limitation of courses offered by most schools here.

^ When I had clicked on Submit button, it said that a course from the arts category is missing. You have to fill one to submit your application.

See the UCLA minimum requirements page: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/fracadrq.htm

I mean. my school did have classes for Dance/Music/Drawing uptil 10th grade. But these weren’t any certified courses. Unlike the other 5 core subjects, we were given Grades and not marks in them.
Plus, they were mentioned in the ‘extracurricular activities’ section in my application.
??

BTW, is anyone of you contemplating a gap year? I’m generally an optimistic guy, but bouts of realism are recently coming my way. Thing is, it’s pretty darn hard for me to get into my dream schools with my present stats. So I might just take a gap year than attend any of my “safe” schools.
So, is there anyone who shares a similar line of thought (and insecurity)? What are the things people usually do during their gap year? :)

Dude, it’s email, not daak. Gaya Berkeley. I had no hopes anyway and my parents don’t want me to go to California so… It’s okay.

And seriously, you’re getting into ATLEAST one of your top colleges. Believe me. I’d know. I’m not being diplomatic.
