The Indian Thread #19

@pixie- Really sorry again  just really worked up :(.About your Harvard interview you might be a borderline case yourself ??

Hmm, I donā€™t remember mentioning that I got one. Just making a passing comment. :stuck_out_tongue:
I have to run, but I really want to know. Please someone answer!

Btw, is Brown your first choice?

PIXIE GOT AN INTERVIEW WITH HARVARD WOOOO!
I can understand that itā€™s rather inconvenient (massive understatement) in the midst of the boards, but itā€™s so very exciting! As it says on their website:

So it can only be a good thing no? Although I must admit, it is a bit mean of them to ask you to come now.
Nevertheless, Iā€™m sure youā€™ll ace it, whenever it is :)

This wouldā€™ve gone up on FB, but Iā€™m off it for the month, so apologies :S

Pixieā€™s going to Harvard!

Congrats, compscifan :D

^Definition of angry pixie.

Alright now Iā€™m confused :/

Did Pixie really get an interview or are you guys picking up on her?

If she really got an interview, then sheā€™s going to Hahvahd!

Lol i didnā€™t mean to irritate / **** you off in any way, my apologies.

ā€œBtw, is Brown your first choice?ā€

I wouldnā€™t really say first choice, but its pretty high up on my list hence the curiosity.

Did someone mention Harvard? :O

@perfect pixie - I donā€™t think so. I think they contact the borderline applicants around the 25th of March. So basically if youā€™re contacted for one around that time, you are most probably on the waitlist or have been accepted.

Has anyone been contacted for a Yale interview yet?

quizaddict-Yes, but mine was ages ago, well before the interview deadline (Feb 15).

@arunemo - Iā€™m sorry if Iā€™m being woozy, but are you from Belgium or India? Iā€™ve noticed that usually the Indian applicants are contacted around late March. And Iā€™m completely flipping out about the Yale interview (rather, the lack of); do you know of any Indian who has been offered one?

I live in Belgium and all my friends here had theirs before Feb 15. I donā€™t really know about India; the only people I know had all applied SCEA. Would it be different for India though? March is a bit late if their website is anything to go by.

quizaddict: may i know your reference?

Iā€™m sorry, come again? If youā€™re contacted around 25th youā€™re a borderlineā€¦and youā€™re most probably on w/l or accepted? :S
Anyway, if an applicant gets an interview at this time from harvard, a school that doesnā€™t interview most of its applicants from India (based on what I hear), what does it mean in your opinion? Iā€™m guessing the applicantā€™s cleared the first round at least. Probably the decisionā€™s already been made, and this soon, so they just wish to confirm? The adcoms might have not yet decided on the applicants that are interviewed later? From what I hear, all harvard admits in a limited interview region do get an interview, although i dunno how many rejects do. Someone quite close to me was just offered one! Guess itā€™s nail biting time for the rest of us indian applicants?
And Yale is already done with interviews long ago! Atleast in delhi. Itā€™s only crazy schools like H that BEGIN interviewing now. Yale, or any other school, if interviews now, shall do so only for borderline admit cases imo.

@ani: of course iā€™m not ā€˜angryā€™! Dw about it violater!

by this, i was talkin about brown of course. I know for a fact that brown finishes interviews by 15th feb, so anything now would mean a positive indication

Pixie, is this a face to face interview or a skype interview? Some internationals get skype interviews with an adcom.
In any case it certainly is great news as it shows they are considering you. Congratulations and bonne chance.

@perfect pixie - Well, this friend of mine was contacted for an interview a couple of weeks before H released its decisions. He couldnā€™t go for it (ISC + accepted Yale SCEA) but the guys at the Harvard admissions office were pretty adamant about it and one of them scheduled an interview that took place by phone. He was later accepted.
There was also this waitlist who was contacted around this time. If youā€™ve been offered one, then maybe its time for you to paaartaay :D

Congrats Pixie. That definitely is very good news.

Hey everyone, I am back on CC.

@quizaddict ā€¦ i had my yale interview sometime in the middle of january. iā€™m a RA applicantā€¦

^ I think thatā€™s a good sign. Are there Yale College alumni in Chandernagore? Or was it Skype (or phone)?

Ah. Hem. You mean my friend. You guys conveniently assumed itā€™s for me. How dyu think I feel apart from super awkward? :stuck_out_tongue:
Heā€™s a fantastic debator, lots of MUNs, other stuff, got rejected stanford REA, doesnā€™t need fin aid.

Luci: face to face, but thatā€™s probably because delhi must have the largest population of harvard alums in India I think, so it was possible for one to happen so? In regions with no H alum, thereā€™d be a skype imo. India is a ā€œlimited interview regionā€ and few applicants get interviews, if they do, then itā€™s quite late unlike the rest of the regular interviews. My guess would be that it means the applicant atleast cleared the first round, but then itā€™s my guess only.

Quizaddict: ah, okey dokey! I had found your previous post slightly self contradictory, thatā€™s why i asked.

It seems weā€™re all basing our conclusions on anecontal evidence. I think Iā€™ll just continue my hibernation. Coming on cc puts me in a tizzy! :)
