^ Which makes it 19th morning by India time!

Ah true that. It’ll be somewhere around the evening for me.
I didn’t think about it till now. I’d prefer having it over with, I know my chances are ridiculously low with me being an Indian asking for aid. Good luck to you itsmylife and Pixie too! I will be hoping for the best for both of you
Ha CC is less distracting than Facebook. I’m surviving pretty well without it to be honest. Almost a month now
thetechnut, I read your blog and I must say you write remarkably well. Makes me want to write one myself, now that I have some time on my hands.

Just received an email saying Wellesley decisions will be out on March 23rd. College decisions have started to inundate my inbox and this, combined with the lack of school work is making me linger upon the impending dates far too much to be considered healthy. I need to keep myself busy.

@arunemo - Congo on UBC. I read it as UCB and my hear skipped a few beats…;)

Best of luck for Wellesley as well, and UChic. Hope to see good news here.

And thanks for reading my blog. My writing is, in my opinion, very self-centric. I don’t like that one bit. But feel free to follow it. I usually speak more there, than here, for lack of a wider audience and more direct approach ;)

If you start one, do let me know…

How do you know those prodigies, itsmylife?

And nice to see you here, Neemo.

Haha UCB, not a chance. I’m applying for aid so Berkeley was never an option.
And I seriously doubt it regarding Chicago and Wellesley, but your good wishes are nevertheless appreciated.
No worries really, and your writing being self-centric is not a flaw! It is your blog after all, and I think you string your words together very well, and have a subtle wit that I like quite a bit. I was about to comment on your latest post, which was excellent–it summed up exactly how I’ve been feeling for the past two weeks.

anirudh - the what if bug is a very infectious one.
Whats done is done so dont think on it too much!!

@Ani
Classmates/best friends. :)

Many thanks to all those who responded. It worked!!!

Hey
I am new to this thread! :). Indian, from Jaipur.
I just got a Harvard interview request. Can anybody tell me if it’s good/bad, what do i need to do after it… all of it.
Btw, got accepted to UCLA and rejected at MIT. Ah well, all’s good.
I would love to meet more people!
Veterans on this thread, orientation?
I read many posts and I am SO happy for all of you! Indians, it seems, are having it good this time around!
Yay to ALL OF US!

collegebeckons: Did you go for athletic recruitment in your sport when applying to H?

And WOW, 2 weeks for decisions and harvard’s still conducting interviews.

Ever wondered how does UCLA, which gets more than 61000 applications for the freshman class, come out with it’s decision sooo early than others schools which do not get even half as many apps it gets.

hmmm
Interesting point. Maybe its just to put applicants through more agony :)

@itsmylife - Sort of a necro-reference, but I prefer not to visit or contribute to chance threads. They often gets people’s hopes high/low in a manner not befitting a response from an online forum from relative strangers. Especially since they are often a bit vulnerable when they usually post that thread. So if you don’t mind, I won’t be helping them out. And comment away on the blog. Always love feedback. :)

@TippuSultan - (party) (like the Skype emoticon) (yeah, I know it doesn’t work here, but what’s the harm) Glad I could help. :)

@collegebeckons - I’m not a veteran, so I can’t orient you. Am yet to get oriented myself. Congo on UCLA. And it’s-OK on MIT. We’re in the same boat, in that respect. And woah on the Harvard interview. I have no clue about why they’re doing it so late, but evidently, yours must be a competitive application.

“what do i need to do after it… all of it.” - Didn’t quite get this line, though

@chelsearox - The UC applications, in my opinion, require less reading, if you know what I’m saying. 2 personal statements. Total 1,000 words (I think?). No LoRs. No supplements. And I don’t even know the UCLA average applicant profile, so I’d rather not comment on pre-reading sieving.

EDIT: Emoticon overload. Sorry

Just thought I’d add some of the upcoming dates here, in case anybody’s too lazy to check them up and convert timezones. I hope that I’ve converted them properly. Times and dates are in Indian Standard Time (IST). Dates are in DD/MM/YYYY format. Times in 24-hr format.

25/03/2011 - 01:30 - University of California : Berkeley
31/03/2011 - 02:30 - Cornell University, Princeton University, Harvard College
02/04/2011 - 04:30 - Stanford University

I’m particularly interested in the 31st, if I’m honest. I’m wondering how I’ll deal with a triple-blow, if it ever comes to that. I’m talking in the negative sense, here. :|

IMHO, some of reasons why universities like UCLA can decide faster or earlier are:

[ul]
[] They start the process earlier.
[] They have more resources than most private universities.
[] They have more slots to fill in and they don’t care how individual pieces fit together for general admission. They look at this only for honors program.
[] Admission is generally given to specific college/department. Divide and conquer works faster.
[] It is easier and faster to gauge transcripts when most applicants are from in-state.
[] Essays and ECs matter more for borderline cases and scholarships.
[/ul]

Well I was stalking the UCB/UCLA threads back in November. They said that the admissions officers assign points to each aspect of the application. Then they calculate the min point cutoff and offer everyone admission over that threshold. Btw they look at everything! And also, the UC app barely takes 5 min to read!

Hmm. If it’s that way, I might have a chance at UCB, dare I say…
hits self on head with large book
Musn’t. Get. Presumptuous.
:P

Sooo, an Indian waitlist at MIT: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1090016-chance-indian-applicant-hypsm-cornell-penn-duke-uchicago-berkeley.html

I have come across 2~3 waitlisted Indian students this year. And if I remember correctly, even esconie with all her brilliant stats was waitlisted first and then eventually accepted. Do Indians ever get accepted at MIT straight away? or is it always waitlist->acceptance.

EEp I have EIGHT - yes EIGHT decisions that I am waiting for. Oh the agnoy! arunemo - another Wellesley applicant! Hope we get in! :)
