Cobalt: Gahh, I didn’t apply to Georgia Tech! >.< replaces name with angaduday

Nahhh man, I don’t know. College decisions are pretty arbitrary. All we can do is hope for the best. And I don’t have a third choice. I applied to only two schools.

@corrected: Thanks, I hope so. All the best to you as well :)

Oh no, well. First of all, calm down. Mistakes happen, especially since thousands of people apply, and yes, it’s frustrating. Send them an email. Give them the proof that you submitted the application on time. I hope everything works out!

congrats man, All the best for MIT.
@correct: I am a 17’er. Exams are over, so just sitting around with CC open on my cell 24x7 Boredom, u see ;)

I got the UCLA likely as well. Looks like we might be heading to California, pratyush!

Yeah, I got the UCLA likely too.

@intelligence: Don’t mind me, I sincerely hope that you get in MIT, my post is just to clear up the misconceptions of the fellow CCers. Hope the very best for you man. :)

Cheeres and Bye :)

Mrinal, replace the '<'s with square brackets. BBCode has a different syntax.

Pratyush, Ascaris, MHIAD, even I got the UCLA likely letter
Congratulations to you guys :p

Oh wow mrinal edited his post. I look stupid now.

Even more so now that he doesn’t have any formatting in his post ;)

^^Super like
btw, congrats

Wow, awesome job and congrats everyone for UCLA likelies :D

@p25india- Getting even waitlisted at Caltech is no small thing man, congrats :D

@corrected- Mrinal’s right about Harvard and MIT being world apart. My EC always kept referring to Harvard as the Other School and he did so very seriously! MIT is like this playground where everybody is encouraged to play and I guess the factor that they look for most in an applicant is whether you like playing with the world around you or not… Harvard on the other hand looks out whether you have leadership qualities, have you got that spark and vision to make it big… Both schools are no doubt the best in the world, but they are world apart and nothing like each other…

Wow. Congrats everyone! It feels great to see so many acceptances! :D

Congratulations p25!

On a side note to everyone, one of my friends from India got into Caltech :)

Three of my friends got rejected but they took it in stride.

Congratulations to everyone who got likely letters from UCLA!
Many of us CCer’s got admissions today!

Regarding the discussion on Indian education, I have two things to say in that regard

If this system is able to trigger a debate among current 11th and 12th Graders, Kudos to the system to raise such passionate teenagers.

The Indian student contingent is the second largest group of International Students heading to US, known for its holistic admissions, again speaks volumes about the quality if not quantity of our education system, therefore, their acceptance in that highly competitive world of college applications and admissions.

I absolutely agree we are nowhere where we should be. But right now whatever little has been done for a few, given the limitations within which it operates, has not been so bad either.

Sure some would say only those who can afford head for those shores, but there are millions who can afford and in the end from a pool of few lakh applicants only a handful make it as they are restricted by number of Internationals per college.

CHENNAI: Many more Indian students are going to the US this year compared to previous years. The US embassy in India has said that the number of student visas issued has increased by 18%, from 39 ,958 in 2010 to 46 ,982 in 2011, computed from October to September.

Currently, more than 1,00,000 Indian students study in US universities , making them the second highest foreign student population in that country."

Also it would interest you to know that you are privileged few, if you have got your acceptances already, considering the huge pool of applicants every year from all over the world. The link below gives stats of Fall 2011 applications. This year they are slightly higher, the official figure have yet to come in.

So the point is, the system with all the malaises is able to give everybody a run for their money, just imagine the possibilities once we have the capability and the determination to ‘fix’ it.

I absolutely love your interpretations and attitude :)
