almost close enough :D, but the pton one is over the phone right? so location shouldnt matter…and i completely feel for you about the forgetting stuff issue if its on the phone you could try making notes with all the possible topics of discussion and a list of stuff you want to say about each… also if i were you, i wouldnt let my parents hang around in the same room, that just makes it more nerve-wracking

@USApplicant: I’m in Belgium. Maybe that’s why And, nope, no HYP. Maybe because I was looking for the best Engineering programs in the states and not only brand name.

@A.Hipster: Haha tell me about it. In any case, just 1 and a half more months :D

Pton  Just doesn’t sound right guys :p

@shrey- hehe and thanks so much I sort of think it will be a sit-down interview, because she said ‘meet’ in the email. But a phone interview WOULD be better! Having some notes around would be good.
@USapplicant- I saw your earlier post now Thanks for the advice!
@Tizil- haha i like abbreviations. But, okay, ‘Princeton’
@hipster- wow, that sounds interesting! Not to mention wide-ranging. I’m glad you had a good interview. Hope our interviewers turn out to be cool too
@everyone- 1. I’ll definitely be talking about my interest in becoming ambidextrous, but do you think it’s overkill to take a pen and paper and actually show her what I do?
2. I messed up big time in sending my Arts supplement. I somehow missed the fact that you can’t send it in online, but proceeded to do so. But, a really big part of my interests is painting and photography. Should I talk about this, and tell her about the mess-up (if she asks if I sent an arts supp)? Would that make her see me very negatively, showing that my research before applying was cr*p?
Thank you :)

@Tizil: Congratulations!
@AdolfHipster: One and half hrs over phone or was the int. face to face?

That’s settled then Thanks hipster!
@everybody- please give me your opinion on my Arts Supp question? Thank you!

Cobalt, is it that Youtube video you once posted?

If yes, it’s amazing and you should be sending it in :)

Plus, I’m so close to 666 posts. Once I reach that mark, I’ll be spending some time enjoying myself in the high school forums ;)

^^Yep Thank you, I’ll take a pen and paper then And practice a little.
And, people, please give me on opinion on my question above! (Sorry to keep buggin’ you on this). I’m worried about my arts participation, which didnt get represented.
Thanks again :)

Didn’t I just say that you should send it in? :p

cobalt- i think you should tell her. A person will always be more understanding when ur talking to them face-to-face rather then via email or the phone. explain to her that you made a mistake and that youre really worried it…who knows? it may come across as demonstrated interest :P

Did you guys hear about the whole Vassar fiasco? I think they can expect a whole lot of lawsuits coming their way…

[76 Vassar Hopefuls Wrongly Told They Were Accepted](FOX 5 New York)

Nah, Fox News usually blows things out of proportions. It’s like the Aaj Tak or Star News of India :p

It was a technical error. Vassar apologized. Did you see the woman journalist? She was unabashedly leading on that little girl! Sure, there was an aspect of emotional turmoil - but it was an honest error. Should Vassar really, “accept her now!”? No.

By the way, for anyone who is interested … 58 days to our college results week :)

How about we do a countdown? The first post each day would count as 1 countdown. Obviously, don’t just post a number, follow it up with a line for us to discuss :p

@Tizil- send the ASupp NOW? Isn’t it too late? :o Or maybe I could just mail them my reco letter and website with samples, and ask them to add it to the additional info section…that would cover everything…hmm…thanks
And, the countdown sounds good

@Shrey- I think that makes sense! I’ll do that. Thank you :)

About the Vassar error, I agree with Tizil in that it was just a mistake, although a horrible, horrible one, and I definitely don’t think that rejected applicants should take this incident as a reason to demand that they be accepted. Or to demand their fees back. At the end of the day, they were rejected, and there’s no rule saying that rejected applicants get their fees back, obv
CBSE students- I day for the practicals to start, and less than a month for the Boards All the best! I hope we all scrounge 90-95%! :)

That works too Cobalt, you can also send the online links as part of your mid-year reports.

Wow, the boards are so close? I didn’t realize that! Good luck everyone! Most US/International schools place emphasis only on the mid-term exams (because of the aforementioned reports) and so I am pretty free right now and enjoying life :)

4 more posts to 666 posts and then I’m off for some recreational and safe trolling on the HSL forum :p

what is so special with 666? is this a hindu lucky number?

sorry to get in between your discussion on the 666 and board exams, i just had a question which you guys might be able to answer…
so i am in 12th too, and i haven’t applied to any colleges YET… i am thinking of taking a gap year, and not necessarily a whole year as it’s effectively 6 months to go for the next fall admissions once 12th is over.
So i was thinking…how would adcoms look at it? if i do something productive and i mean really productive, like community work, would they find it worthwhile? i am a CS guy and will be taking CS in any college i’ll be planning to go to (CMU,Stanford…many more), so i am also planning to write a small game engine which is something i always wanted to do and thought that the adcoms might like it . I am preparing hard for the boards and aiming for 90+… will all this help?

Haha no Alea You know how 666 is usually associated with evil? So I was guessing that the HSL … for all of it’s … weirdness would take my recreational trolling (but sometimes honest) posts more seriously.

In fact, I couldn’t think of any number having significance in Hindi mythology. The only important thing I can imagine is the Swastika but tensions in Europe and America flare instantaneously on mentioning it. However, it’s regarded as a spiritual symbol not only in India but also Korea, China, Japan and Indonesia as well :)

@Aaryaman: Well, there’s nothing like a half-gap-year. Even though the session starts in March, you’ll have little more than an year (March 2012-March 2013) as a gap year. Well, since you do intend on having a prolific gap year, why not focus on the game engine, and not on community service? Since you like CS, it will be to your advantage. Just choose one thing. Be passionately crazy about it, and get results. Wouldn’t hurt much, imo.

@trizil7 thanks alot for the advice…i’m very passionate about CS. I’ve got high scores in CS without even opening the book, maybe coz i already know about it years before
i have beaten the toppers (who are IIT freaks and always top , even in coaching institutes)
in CS that is. Maybe i am exaggerating, but when i see them asking me to clear their doubts in the last minute before the exams i can’t stop thinking about the same XD… right now all i know is doing my best in boards, and then working on my game engine. I will be giving the subject tests in may and my second SAT on june (i just gave the 28th jan SAT, it was kinda bad because i wasn’t used to the timing in CR and W ,I didn’t even study for it as my prelims were going on. But on the bright side, maths was great.)

dartmouth has already sent out a bunch of likely letters…

^^ I know! Has anyone here gotten one?
Btw, how many of you applied there?
@tizil- I mailed it off and yeah, it’s sort of creepy actually… just two months more!

cobalt-are you done with your financial aid apps yet? did you send documents by email?
