Thanks so much. The tube looks awesome. I always thought I'd receive a packet, but a tube will do just fine (assuming i get in)!

lostinbalt, if you get into MIT, i'm sure you'll get into JHU but then u'd have to go to JHU because you did ED... lol

I'm considering just waiting for the mail at this point on the off chance I get a tube.

Then again, I'd hate to get deferred/rejected via mail, because as soon as you saw the plain envelope from MIT, you'd know what it is.

Haha, I'm torn between the two as well. I know I'm not going to be able to concentrate knowing that it's just a click away, but ill be gone all weekend so it may not be too bad. Plus, acceptance/deferral are going to be that much more amazing from the mail anyway. I'm reasonably sure I'll be rejected so theres no where to go but up =)

Psh, yeah right. You won't get rejected early.

Where are you going for a whole weekend? That really sucks to be gone when decisions are coming online.

Out of the 3000 apps EA, they reject 500.

how many do they accept tho? think positive!

Last year they accepted 390. :-/

Even less. ;)

Here's the break down in order of likelihood: deferral, rejection, acceptance.

EDIT: The "even less" was directed at Indian's comment.

yeah, yeah, I know :(

It's okay, I can handle a deferral --> I just hope I won't have to, so I won't have to study for finals...or finish other apps

Eh, I've got one of those quirky body sensor things you know? Like people's hair gets frizzy when its going to rain? My stomach flips **** when bad things are going to happen lol....and im going to be in NH for Snowboard Club =) first trip of the season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, majorly jealous. We haven't had enough good snow for me to splurge on a lift ticket yet this year. I'm debating whether or not to bring my snowboard to college, though I guess it'll depend on where I end up.

If I went to MIT, I'd bring my skis. I plan on MANY weekend trips to VT/NH/somewhere snowy.

(=P Homework? What's that?)

i'm thinking of going skiing friday so i'm dead tired, and sleep through until noon. also, i have an optimistic feeling that they will accept more (if not a higher percent) than last year--since the pool size is inflated due to those who would ordinarily apply to harvard/princeton etc., it would follow that they are expecting lower yield and would therefore admit more.

... that, or they'll admit less and utilize the waitlist more than ever.

I'm just here to make sure you guys all see the pessimistic end of the spectrum, too. I can see the argument going both ways, but frankly I think it'll be more likely that they'll play it conservatively EA this year.

All I'm worried about is them accepting me!

I agree with ducktape.

niceilike's way: higher acceptance rate, lower yield rate. Bad.

ducktape's way: lower acceptance rate, higher yield rate. Good.

.<

I actually kind of hate to agree with myself in this situation.

I've got a party on Friday. IB only, for us students who have survived three and a half years of pre-IB and Full IB. It's the 1/8th left party.

And I think the anticipation is going to spoil it.

"The yield — the percentage of admitted students who choose to attend — has also risen in recent years but “is a difficult thing to predict,” Schmill said. Schmill said the yield would probably go down this year since “there are likely to be students in our applicant pool who have Harvard or Princeton as their first choice and in the past would have applied early to one of those schools.” But he added that “as they explore MIT, they may well decide they like what they see, and choose to enroll here.” As such, “we are likely to be a bit conservative with the number of students we will admit,” Schmill said."
