The University of Texas Dorms

Yeah there are windows. It’s just called the basement because it’s not the level you enter in off of the street, but it’s the level where the Joynes Room is. I think there are only 7 rooms in the basement (001-007) but I’m assuming the bathroom is significantly smaller.

loneranger - how can there be 40 rooms on floors 2 and 3 if the capacity is 131? (according to the housing webpage) What am I missing? It also shows that it is 5 floors. If they are counting the basement, what is on the 4th floor? Is there an elevator? Thanks!

All I know is that my room was about 60% of the way down the hallway and was #321. So there had to be 35 or so rooms. Some of those were the laundry room and the toilets and showers.

Carothers has 4 floors–0, 1, 2, and 3. There is an elevator.

Does UT have any of the “residential life” type dorms where freshmen from the same majors live together? I know many of the other schools are doing this, but haven’t seen anything about it at UT.

you can sign up for ResFigs that take place in Whitis and Duren. it’s too late this year of course.

Right… my interest is for fall 2010… thanks!

henryj223: I found the document on ResFIGs but it said “Indicate your preference for ResFIG on your UT Housing Contract. Whitis Court will automatically become your first choice.”

My son really likes the look of Duren. Does anyone know WHICH figs are in Duren?

I wasn’t aware any ResFIGs were in Duren. I assumed they were all in Whitis.

i read from another post that there were some resFIGS in Duren. Most are in Whitis though. As of which resFIG is in which dorm, I have no idea.

We were told that Duren will no longer house anyone in the Residential FIGS program…they are all in Whitis Court now.

ah, okay. thanks for the clarification.

If I wish to have non-UT visitors come up to my dorm for a visit, can they just walk on up to my room, or do they have to check in and show ID?

this is a really stupid question…but I am still not sure of the answer

do connecting baths include a shower?

Yes they do.

If you have a connecting bath are you still allowed to use the community bath?

henryj223, depends on the dorm. I know how it works in Kins and Jester but not in the others.

ok, how does it work in Jester?

They don’t have to sign in they can just walk up to your room. However, on each floor there are doors after you get off the elevator/stairs where you have to swipe your card to get access to the hallways where all the rooms are so you’d have to let them in through there but other than that people at the front desk will not stop them from coming that far.

Unless it’s 11pm/midnight and someone is sitting there checking IDs because you have to swipe it near the front in order to get in late or very early in the morning.

Oh and I should add you are SUPPOSED to check them in, but my friends and I never did. Just once when it was late.

okay thanks :)

is the jester room w0244 on the 2nd floor?
