The University of Texas Dorms

DO the early check in people check in the UFCU Disch-Falk Field?

Maybe this post will help ease someone’s worries - Blanton is NOT that bad. I just checked in Friday and have been here for two nights, and so far, I actually quite like it. I’m on the very first floor, which is just above street level, but I think it’s on a hill or something so it doesn’t really feel like it. I was worried about not having a sink, but the bathroom is just a few doors down so it hasn’t been a problem (yet). The bathrooms are really utilitarian, but all four or so times I’ve been in there it’s been clean. It also has a really nice lobby with lots of tables and couches and a piano. The rooms are small, but they’re clean and in good shape (you can loft the beds in Blanton now, which I think is a new thing - it’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s doable). I’m sure Andrews/Carothers are even nicer but I haven’t yet been in either.

buriedalie, I’m glad you like your dorm! I elected to stay in a room (in SRD) that was slightly larger than most, but did not have a sink. I had that room for three years, and never missed the sink.

who else is in andrews/the honors quad !?
i’m miserable and bored here

Really satisfied with Dobie atm.

That’s good DenuMz!

Any way to change the temperature in Jester? Sooooooooooooo cold.

^ So true… especially in the morning just after you wake up!

Unfortunately, not all the rooms in Jester has a thermostat. The rooms that are lucky to have one also controls the temperature of 3 or 4 of its surrounding rooms. But it’s definitely better to have a cold room than to have a hot one. You can always put on layers to get warm, but there’s only so many layers you can take off to get cool.

in my dorm, it’s winter, so we all wear hoodies and blankets. lol

Since right now is the end of November, how long am I able to wait before I pay my $200 enrollment fee and the $300 dollar housing thing. All of my college money is in a CD and I can’t access any of it for about 3 months.

I won’t wait 3 months, I was just wondering if it was okay to wait till mid December so that I have two paychecks under my belt.
My Dorm choices are:
Whitis (resfig)
Roberts
Moore-Hill
Prather
Jester

Okay so I was looking through the virtual tours of dorm rooms on the UT website…and I was wondering: are all Jester rooms like the one shown on the website where there are two beds on opposite walls, with about 1 cm of space in between (exaggerating, of course), a tiny window on the far side of the room, and tiny desks in the two corners? Or are there other room layouts offered at Jester? Cause every other dorm seemed to have significantly bigger rooms than Jester…

I have a friend that lives in a Jester room with a connecting bathroom and she says it’s really pretty spacious (bigger than my room in [random nameless dorm]). Last year, though, she lived in a normal room (community bath) and said it was miserably small.

Yeah, the rooms in Jester with connecting bathrooms are a bit more spacious. I’m currently living in one now, but I had a “normal” one for orientation. The two desks are still awkwardly crammed in the back, but the beds spaced out differently. There’s one facing the wall with the door, and another on the wall opposite to the bathroom - so, the beds kind of form an “L” shape.

Okay so while we’re still talking about room layouts, which dorms have the best room layouts? I know you can easily go to the library to study, but I still hate how the desks are just crammed into the far corner in the Jester dorm rooms.

@BottlecapBlues - double check the website but I do not think your $200 or $300 is due until spring. IF YOU PAY THE $200 ENROLLMENT FEE NOW THEY WILL WANT THE $300 RIGHT AWAY. So don’t pay the $200 until you have to!!! I made this mistake last year.

@window: Daaaaaaaaarrrn…I just paid it. I knew I should have checked here again before I did it. Thanks for the advice though!!! XP

On another note, since we’re talking about dorms could someone give me some perspective on finding a roomate or how well you got along with yours? The questions that they ask online are suuuuuper generalized and I guess I could say that I’m sort of “people” picky. Would it be okay if I started a “find a roomie” thread or does that sound like a not so good idea? Wow aren’t I just full of questions :/…

I found my roommate through the Texas 2014 Facebook group. Someone had created a really long, open-ended roommate survey and lots of incoming freshmen filled it out.

Well then hopefully someone will make a new one for this year.

So I paid my $50 deposit in early December. Does that mean I’m really low on the “master list”, or whatever it’s called? Also, I am OOS, so does that mean I am going to find out if I got accepted later than those in-state students who qualify for the automatic admission? And if so, does that lower my chances of getting my first choice dorm?
