So am I doomed or not? And: I want to know, do I have to have accepted enrollment and put in my deposit to start applying for housing?
I'm seriously thinking about Jesters as my number one, but if anyone knows another dorm that's in a similar price range, with freshmen, and close to classes that would be helpful.

Does anybody know if there will still be any space available in the dorms around Jester(particularly Prather and Roberts) in about a month or two? I'm still trying to convince my parents to let me live on campus but my mom is persistent on me living with my cousin and his girlfriend(even though she hasn't even asked them) since it would probably be free. It isn't that I don't like them, but their 3 bedroom apartment is already full, too many people stay the night too often and get really loud/drunk, and I'm not too fond of the 2 roommates that are already living with them. I really would like to live on campus for a year or two before I go to an apartment. Does anybody have any advice for me to tell her?

tell her your cousins and his friends drink too much and are too loud and it will affect your grades :)

once you submit your application and UT gets it, you can apply for housing

hmf123, the school of communications is right next to the honors dorms as well as littlefield, whitis, kinsolving, and duren.

Thanks! I'm really curious though, why is it that no one wants to live at simkins? I'm not considering it or anything, just wondering.

it's a males-only dorm, so it's not that appealing to guys.

I read in another post that the $50 housing online fee is paid with mastercard or discover, but my parents only have american express and visa, does anyone know if they take those? I'll probably find out tomorrow when I pay the fee, b/c everyone seems to have already paid for that so I think I'm way behind.

Umm I am pretty sure even living in Jester is out of the question if your applying now. Your better off living in West Campus or North Campus at this point.

really?! then can anyone tell me what are my best choices at this point? my only real desires are on-campus, on the less expensive side(not duren or san jacinto) and close to classes, I'm a journalism major so I'm with the school of communications. Also, what's the deal with west and north campus? I don't get what you mean by that comment, is it bad to live there or good?
Also, I'm a girl and a freshman.

Yeah I have no idea what your chances are. The Housing rep should be able to give you an idea. Most people apply for housing immediately after they submit their app so you might be in a bit of a pickle. West/North Campus isn't affiliated with UT. There are actually Co-op housing in west campus that is closer to the communications building than any other dorms if your into the whole co-op thing. If it's not your thing, if you get a roommate, you could get the same kind deal you get in the dorms for cheaper with more space.

So for those would I have to fill out a separate housing app, since they're not part of UT? And what does being into the whole co-op thing mean?
So yeah, if anyone out there knows if I'm doomed or not when it comes to housing in UT dorms could you please tell me? I have a few friends at UT so maybe it would help my chances for housing if I request to room with one of them?

All right I submitted my housing app just now and I found a freshman at UT (incoming sophomore) who put in her housing app a long time ago and agreed to put me as her first choice roomate which my friend told me guarantees me a spot in the dorms? She lives in kingsolving by the way, so my choices from most desired to least goes kingsolving, whitis, and jester. but I just got an email confirming my payment and I'm wondering where am I supposed to put who I want my roomate to be? are they going to send me a housing contract or what now???? (I'm under 18 if that has something to do with it) the girl gave me her UTEID and everything so we could put each other as roomates, which let me just say is amazingly kind of her when we don't know each other! do I have to pay the $200 housing deposit first or something????

You need to pay the $200 enrollment deposit before you can specify your housing preferences.

Thanks, so now that I've applied to housing and gotten a roomate picked out, who applied for housing way early, should I be worried about getting into a dorm right now? The reason I ask is b/c if I ask my parents for the $200 enrollment fee now, they're gonna ask why I'm paying for that when I haven't gotten acceptances from any other colleges yet, of course the answer is that I want to go to UT and know that it's the best place for me. However, they won't like that answer so I was thinking of paying the enrollment deposit later, like say march, when I've had time to butter them up. But if I need to pay the enrollment fee now and select my roomate so I can get a dorm then I don't mind asking them straight up, they might be really mad but I can take it. It's just that I'd prefer making them angry later, preferrably after some acceptance letters come in and I can tell my parents how great UT is in comparison. Don't get me wrong, they don't look down on UT or anything they just have this crazy idea in their heads that I'll get into Rice or something and be a doctor. Not happening. I just attribute this to that whole thing where parents believe their kids can do anything and believe their child is the best and all that.

Your housing priority is based on when you paid the $50 housing application fee. Since they are not going to assign you a room until early July, it's OK to wait until March or even later before you pay the $200 enrollment deposit, at which time you can specify your hall and roommate preferences.

Thanks, but since it's feb. and a lot of people applied way earlier I don't think I have top priority right now. So I'm wondering if I have a roomate preference who has way better housing priority will I be alright? I think I remember reading somewhere the answer is yes, but I just can't remember where.....

It's not easy to answer your question because I don't know the formula they use. Let's just say there is only one spot left in the residence hall of your choosing and there is another person who applied earlier and hasn't been assigned a room. Will the spot go to you who has a roommate preference but applied later, or to that person who applied earlier but without a roommate preference? I would guess it will go to the other person because she applied earlier and therefore has a higher priority than you. However, only the housing department would know the definitive answer.

So anyone know what it is I should be doing at this point? Do I need to be getting my enrollment deposit in as soon as possible so I can select my roomate preference, or would that have no affect on whether or not I get into a dorm at all? Or should I be calling the housing dept. and asking them if there are any dorms available at this point? I ask b/c my UT friend told me she thought it would be best not to draw attention to the issue and just get my housing app in real quick and not worry about it, but if I don't get into a dorm I probably won't have a place to live so it's hard not to be worried.

is that really true?

i'd like to know this as well. is extremely anti-social

i'd also appreciate more info on the difference between west campus and north campus... i've heard that west campus is cheaper but has lots of parties (i hate parties), and the only apartment quote i got from north campus was a group of condos for $1000 a month. x__X
