Now that we're actually gettin closer to the actual time to apply (and most of my applications are out) I'm going to start the Transfer 2007 Thread. Hopefully everyone has come to the conclusion on where they're going to apply (my schools changed quite a bit but these stayed on the list) so we can see where everyone's applying and then post the decisions as we get them.

School: Montgomery College
GPA: 4.0
SAT: 2220

Applying to: Bates, Brown, Georgetown, Wesleyan, Chicago, NYU, Washington University in St. Louis, Cornell, and UT Austin.

Even though application is months away I’m so stressed out and I’m constantly thinking about my stats and my chances. I seriously think 90% of my day is taken up by thinking about college; I just cant stop!

GPA: 3.95
Major: Sociology
EC's: I work at an elementary school and volunteer at the boys and girls club
I have 63 units at he end of this semester
Schools applying to: UCB & UCLA
igetc: Complete
pre-req: all but one class

els: Northwestern was on my list for a long time, but when I saw that the transfer rate went down from like 30% to 17% and I went to cut my list down (even though it's still big) I decided I liked UChicago much more and had a better chance there anyways.

goyoungha: what major are you applying to for CALS? The acceptance rate overall for the college is like 50% so you've got a great chance (and hopefully me too :) )

i dont know my GPA for college yet since i have yet to start .. o.O how does everyone know their college GPA's already? or are they statin the ones from high school? hm

school: Northwestern University
GPA at high school: 4.2
SAT: 2270
Applyin to: Harvard, Columbia, and perhaps others... like Yale and UPenn? for sure for sure Harvard and Columbia though.

but yeah.. umm.. i still have no idea which classes to take...

"els: Northwestern was on my list for a long time, but when I saw that the transfer rate went down from like 30% to 17% and I went to cut my list down (even though it's still big) I decided I liked UChicago much more and had a better chance there anyways."

where did you read these statistics? i transferred there this year and i can't find the transfer stats.

PS: your test scores and GPA are really good, to be honest, this year chicago rejected alot of people like that in favor of people with lower test scores/gpa's, don't ask me why.

People with stats like yours (such as myself) were admitted to northwestern, while people with lower stats were rejected at nu and accepted at uchicago.

Applying to NYU CAS & ... sigh ... Columbia College :)

Math 680
Verbal 620
math 1 c 720
writing 660

4 APs...

college GPA of 3.7/4.0
but my course load is bit crazy...this semester i am taking 22 credits...looking for above 3.7 GPA.
found an investment club and president here...
internships at some financial firms like merrill lynch and oppeneheimer funds...it's likely that i will have another internship for the spring term when i submit the transfer app...

brand: By UT-Austin, do you mean McCombs? I thought it was ridiculously difficult to do an external OOS transfer into the school?

From another thread on this forum:
GPA: 3.6 as of now (only 21 qtr. units, however --- expecting above a 3.8 by the end of Spring)
EC's/Work Exp: Good amount, but heavily skewed towards HS (transferring as a second year with jr. standing)
Etc: IGETC certified + Honors/UCLA TAP
Schools: UCB, UCLA, USC, Claremont McKenna, NYU... honestly, I'm still looking around for good matches.

els: Yeah I noticed that about Chicago. They're definitely focused on the essays and fit with the school instead of just test scores/GPA, and after seeing the results thread I believe it. I got the Northwestern info from CollegeBoard.com. But hopefully I can make Chicago work - it's my #1 choice so if I can get that across in my application + have good scores, I'll give it a shot.

cccbound: yeah I'm applying to McCombs (1st choice) and College of Liberal Arts (2nd choice). I'm in state though, and the acceptance rate last year for in-state to McCombs was 11%. But I know several people that were accepted last year with worse stats so I'm thinking I'll get in.

I guess we should all put what specific school we're going for (most people did but I didn't).

School: Montgomery College
GPA: 4.0
SAT: 2220
Major: Economics and/or Finance
Applying to: Bates, Brown, Georgetown (McDonough), Wesleyan, Chicago, NYU (Stern), Washington University in St. Louis, Cornell (CALS), and UT Austin (McCombs).

I'm still thinking about transfering or not. However, if I do here are my stats:

Current School: McCombs at UT Austin
GPA: 4.0 (I'm a freshman but I took some basic courses already and got credit- should be 3.8-4.0 when all said and done)
SAT: 2010 (Planning to retake in October)
HS GPA: 4.3(w), 3.9(uw), top 2% of class
Major: Finance
ECs: Own online business, 500+ hours of research on equities, virtual stock exchange, 30+ articles published on numerous online sites, Investment Club, Finance Club, Created own diet and created a kind of weight watcher club for it, competitive running and swimming
Would apply to: UPenn (Wharton), Harvard, Columbia, Georgetown (MSB), BHP Program at UT

grandpa - do you just like Georgetown alot? I think going from McCombs to McDonough would be a bit of a drop and would end up costing you a lot more.

I have an uncle who went there, and I really like the campus alot. Much better than UT's at least. Also unless you want to stay in Texas (which I don't), Georgetown has much better recruitment and opportunities which I highly regard. Again all of this is still on paper, and I may end up staying at UT when all said and done. This is still just a very small draft.

Yeah I would agree with you there which is why I'm applying to McDonough as well as McCombs.

Edit: It's weird that Georgetown is not even ranked in the top 20 and yet I can tell my parents the names of the schools I'm applying to and hoping to get into (including Brown, Cornell, and Chicago) and as soon as they hear Georgetown they're like "Oooh wow Georgetown." Lol...it's crazy that the name has so much power and prestige even down here. Most people I meet would be just as impressed with someone if they got into Georgetown as if they got into Stanford. It's crazy.
