U.S. News 2006 Ranking Prediction

collegekid, go jump off a cliff.

um ok.

its not the alumni donations that will change the rankings, it will be the change in alumni donations that will change the rankings, and there hasn't been a significant change. The rate of change makes the difference, and there hasn't been a significant one. So uh, yeah. Thats all.

harvard, get into a "legit" school. Rice kicks the living **** out of Vandy. Get your facts str8 son. I do not give a **** if vandy and rice are tied or w.e., Rice is a killlller school and vandy isn't. To add to that Emory=Gtown=Tufts>>>>>Vandy

Wow, collegekid has gone gansterrr on me. I fear that my fellow CC homey hates me. Perhaps you will bust a cap in my a**?

So.. anybody predict a rise or fall for UCSD? :P

A dictionary? You must be kidding if you honestly think the word "prodigious" deserves the use of a dictionary. Moreover, "how many people" on CC create multiple usernames and use them to converse with each other? On many different occasions, you have had a conversation with...yourself.

"I have a really strong vocab from memorizing many words for the sats and from reading, but I can tell you half the ppl reading your long-winded and convoluted responses do not either pay attention to half the stuff you say or ignore what you say completely."

haha you really are a fool and you talk way too much. Most of the people on CC know what the word "prodigious" means, so I figure that you are in the minority. You are arrogant and extremely rude. You just won't stop, will you? I am an aspiring Phil major, so i love to read novels with "convoluted" diction. Perhaps this style has passed over to me? But do not presume to believe that I need to impress a man who suffers from multiple personalities and down syndrome like you. Don't flatter yourself.

And by the way....CC homies? Who the hell are you?

na, it is soo funny how u back up duke like its ur school when your not even an accepted student. Go back up duke and penn, but when you get rejected after your year off homie, come back to this board and talk!

You still haven't offered up any "facts" supporting a six-rank drop for Penn and a ten-rank drop for Duke.

BTW Collegebounded, US News ranks the rate of alumni giving, not the amount.

Banana,

I thought it was implied that the increase in the giving amount is an increase in the average giving rate over last year. It's not even calculus. As for the Penn and Duke drop, they are not necessarily drops, but rather standstills. Its just that the schools that replaced them just rose faster than they did.

alright, malicously making fun of someone for not getting into a certain school or for ending up at a school that wasn't one of their top choices is completely distasteful.

The biggest gain of six categories tracked by Rand came from non-alumni, who gave 21.5 percent more than the $4.28 billion donated in fiscal 2003.

[/quote]

Non-alumni? Oops, try again.

Also note the section on "Big Gifts." A few of those can have a large impact on the total amount raised by a university while having little to no effect on its overall giving rate.

Philosophy majors, aspiring or not, do not, perforce, have an affinity for novels with 'convoluted' diction; however, we are quite fond of 'convoluted' diction.

Thanks thoughtprocess for that input. Seriously, that user collegekid, for some insane, eager, cynical reason loves to go on every thread and post the same message that "this kid didnt get into cornell, but is at vanderbilt" and then he encourages other CC users, "dont post on this thread" I mean he is absolutely rude and as you mentioned, he is completely distasteful. I come here to argue and talk about colleges, not randomnly put people down because of their college results/hopes/and other plans.

um...if u actually want objective advice, why don't you be more objective and focused in your posts rather than being rude and obnoxcious.

If you ever wish to be taken seriously, then learn how to spell.

collegekid and Harvard2400 - You're both acting all of four years old. Grow up and stop picking on each other.

Nspeds, I suppose it is not "convoluted" to us, per se. But when I ask my friends to read said novels, they think it as convoluted and pretentious jargon. So, I was just speaking from their POV. By the way, what's up?:) What are you reading right now? I'm on page 200 of "Leviathan" and I still have several hundred more to go. :) Geez!

Lets see, if 10 people give 30 dollars each, thats 300 dollars. If 2 people give 200 dollars each, thats 400 dollars. In the first scenario, the alumni rate is increased. In the second scenario, total alumni giving is increased. An increase in one doesn't neccesarily have a strong correlation with the other.

Since there is prodigious pride at stake, outsiders would rather lambast our craft than agree that they simply cannot understand it.

In terms of reading progress, I am now perusing five texts:
1) Mind: A Brief Introduction (Searle)
2) Socratic Puzzles (Nozick)
3) The Concept of Law (Hart)
4) Methods of Logic (Quine)
5) Mathematical Logic (Textbook)

By the way, if you disfavor Hobbes, wait until you start reading Kant. I have spent many lonely nights with Kant...

Edit: By the way, I was not attacking your post; the quip was only a minor indulgence on my part.
