I’m really late on this bus, but hopping on now for some support because I’ve been feeling increasingly anxious nowadays. If anyone knows of a forum for Fall 2019 intercampus transfers, please let me know! or if any
UC Transfer from UCR
Major: Anthropology (biological anthropology focus)
Gender / Ethnicity: Female / Chinese-Vietnamese
Income Bracket / State: Low-income / CA
Prereqs: Completed
GPA: 3.92
Extracurriculars: Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Asian and Pacific Islander Student Programs Peer Mentor
Job/Work Experience: No work experience lol and still on the hunt for an internship/job for this summer sigh
Personal Statements: They probably aren’t very well-written but I’m quite happy with how they turned out. They’re so much more different and personal than the ones I wrote as a freshman applicant. I wrote about my love-hate relationship with loneliness, my objective lack of talents/skills but weird knack for memorization, and how I learned about the importance of exploring my narrative, which changed me almost entirely as a person.
Hooks: n o n e
Strengths: probably just my GPA
Weaknesses: too few extracurriculars
@adreezybones Are you Filipino? did you go to college in the Philippines prior to your school in CA? I would love to connect. I have few questions
@Ljforyou yeah I am and I did! I spent about 2 years of college there before moving here. Are you on the same boat as I am?
@adreezybones Yeah! But I only finish a year. I just moved here 5 years ago. Is there a private message here so we won’t be flooding this thread?
@Ljforyou Today I got an email from the UC Application Center to send my unofficial college transcripts. I already received an email like this from Davis about a month ago, but it doesn’t mean anything.
@mjyoung UC Davis isn’t mediocre lmao. True, it might not be as prestigious as Berkeley or UCLA, but it’s still an awesome school.
Hey guys, a little late to the game but I hope you guys can give me your thoughts.
UC Transfer from UCLA
Major: Media Studies
Gender / Ethnicity: Male / Chinese American
Income Bracket / State: Middle-Class / CA
Prereqs: Completed
GPA: 3.97
Extracurriculars: Circle K International (Club Secretary, Appointed Board Officer, Divisional Committee Member, District Committee Member), Regents Scholar Society
Job/Work Experience: Food Service and tutored at an Elementary School (I’m lacking in professional experience)
Applied Schools: UC Berkeley, UC Davis
Personal Statements: I Think they were written very well, got feedback from a professor and a counselor. One of them I talked about my passion and the importance for Asian American representation in mainstream American media, and related it to the Media Studies major at Cal. Another one I talked about how I served on a district committee of Circle K planning a weekend conference that had over 700 attendees. Another one I talked about my community service experience with Circle K International. The last one I talked about cooking as a talent meaningful to me because I’m able to learn about different cultures through their food.
Additional Comments: I talked about how attending UCLA became burdensome for me overtime because I had to come home multiple times through ride share (I’m from Sacramento) due to a family emergency and explained why going to school in norcal and being closer to home will help me focus on my studies and save money. I know my GPA is already high but I have really high standards for myself and I had to deal with a lot of stress to study hard and maintain my grades while dealing with a family emergency back at home, I sacrificed a lot of my physical and mental health because of it.
Hooks: none?
Strengths: My GPA, years of dedication and heavy leadership experience in a student organization, I’m regents at UCLA lol, and I have a legitimate reason to transfer to a UC closer to home discussed in the additional comments section.
Weaknesses: too few extracurriculars, I’m already attending a top UC which might be against me.
What are my chances guys?
@akwong15 Have you checked this?: https://universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
@akwong15 I majored in media studies at Cal. While I cannot say with 100% certainty, I think your chances are 99.99%.
^^^ That’s for Berkeley. Davis may not admit if they think you’re aiming for Berkeley. I’ve heard that Davis has a possible focus on its yield
@90smix thank you!
@Ohm888 I did get invited to apply for Regents at Davis, so hopefully it’s a good chance I might get admitted. And that’s so cool, how was your experience majoring in media studies at Cal?
@akwong15, I wish I got a regents invite from Davis.
That’s very cool - $7500 a year. Good luck. I loved media studies and you get to take a lot of Haas courses.
Ohly cow! the 4 adress bug appeared on the portal again, the myth from last year is real!!!
Do your have the 4 address showing up the portal as well? 2 Mailing Address and 2 Permanent Address
@DUZK1999 No I didn’t get 4 addresses. I have listed on my cal application one mailing address and one permanent. What does it mean if I were to get 4 addresses? Is it something special?
@akwong15 Hey I remember you! I saw you on last years thread. I was surprised you didn’t get in last year given your stats but I hope you get in this time. You obviously deserve to!
@GoodAfternoonSir To the least I can assert is that it means something, mistake like this in the system would be universally applied if it were truly a “bug”. But after all its just a myth bro.
What is the story behind the myth by the way?
Corrections everyone: there are a tons of ppl getting rejected by 4 and a ton of ppl got accept with their 2 adresss that e
Really? That’s interesting
