UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Yes indeed… so many other high achievers here. Thanks for your kind words and good luck to you too

@gokingsgo1999 I am assuming you meant UCB and not UCLA lmao but I think so! I got into SFSU as my backup and am waiting to hear from UCSD(although I used to live down there and don’t want to go back lmao) but I am hoping to get into UCB. I feel you on the GPA but the rest of my application I feel really good about so I’m hoping they view it holistically! Every day I get more nervous as we get closer to hearing from them

Also, if anyone has any questions about Berkeley life and such after getting accepted, I may be able to answer them  My boyfriend currently goes there after transferring in the Fall of 2018 from a CCC so he is familiar with this process >.<

I have a general question, do you think any kind of late update can impact the application?

My question too ^

The late update itself shouldn’t be a problem unless, of course, you are dropping pre-reqs…or a course needed for IGETC. I called every UC I applied to a week ago, because of an issue with my TAU, and I got the impression decisions had already been made. I’ve been accepted to Irvine and Santa Barbara with a late update myself so I don’t think it affects the decision either way.

really? so my update was or my winter grades and the only reason I wanted to do that was because that boosted my GPA. I mean my reason for update was for good purposes but now I just scare that causes any impact. so it should be fine? right? @AntoniusBlock

Do you think I have a good chance of being admitted with a 3.72 GPA with extracurriculars and strong essays? I had some a gap in a semester due to medical leave though. Low income with a disability living alone. My intended major is Urban Studies in the School of Environmental Design.

It sounds like in your situation it would only help your case so, yes, it shouldn’t be a negative for you. It is my understanding that it is up to the discretion of each UC whether to consider Winter grades in relation to an applicant’s GPA. Simply, they may only go off your GPA from the Fall…but I hope they allow it if improves your chances of admission. Best of luck!

@justint95 I believe the most necessary thing is to complete the pre-reqs for your major. Based off of the admitted transfers for Urban Studies last year, the admit GPA range was 3.37-3.52, so there’s your GPA of 3.72 is likely above average this year as well. If you have your pre-reqs taken care of, your stats look promising to me.

What does the GPA range stated on the UC statistic website reflect? For media studies last year’s cohort’s admit GPA (25-75th percentile) was 3.48 - 3.91. I’m not sure how accurate the data is and also regarding my status as an international student applying to an impacted major. I am sitting at 3.66 so what do you guys think are my chances of getting admitted with all prereqs completed with As and IGETC completed. I also have a decent amount of ECs and well thought out PI responses.

@dwayneee

What do you mean what does the GPA range stated on the UC stat website reflect? The data is accurate.

25-75th percentile means that, of the students who got accepted in the specific major, 25 percent of the students had lower than a 3.48 GPA. 50 percent of students had between a 3.48 and 3.91 GPA. And 25 percent of the students had higher than a 3.91 GPA.

@dwayneee I would assume the data is fairly accurate. 90-95% of transfer students are from California community colleges so that makes up the bulk of the stats; it’s hard to say what the range would be for international students. It is more competitive for sure; according to this set of data, the acceptance rate for international transfers in 2018 was roughly 13.6% (as opposed to the 23% overall transfer acceptance rate).

The impacted major would probably shave that down by a few percent too. But there is still a chance! UCB always touts its holistic review process and there are many factors that go into admissions. Best of luck, I hope this helped  Where are you hoping to transfer from, btw?

@bruins8clap I understand that, it’s just my first time trying to more clearly understand the selection process and my personal standing (chances of being admitted) based on my academic performance alone. I was just more confident in my grades before coming to this forum and understanding that even though technically a candidate’s GPA is sufficient, Berkeley might still not offer admission. Thanks for the clarification tho I appreciate it

@willowstil I was just wondering whether international students are judged against one another rather than the entire pool of applicants. Thanks for your help, it really helps alleviate some of the stress involved with waiting for the admissions decisions to be posted haha. I am transferring from DVC.

What time do decisions come out? I know it’s April 19th already. I want to plan my day so I’m not totally dejected after I check, hahaha

@transferrrrrrcc earlier in the day if I’m not mistaken, I got my rejection (lol) at around noon

@transferrrrrcc about 3pm last year and I think 4pm the year before. I think I remember reading on the thread from last year that UCB announced a time the week before of 3:30 and actually released a bit earlier.

@sagaciousforever @dwayneee wait you got rejected last year? Are you applying this year?

Usually around 3-4p.
