Hello guys!
I’m an international student currently studying at a community college in Washington and I am applying for transfer to Berkeley College of Letters and Science. Just got an email today from Berkeley to submit a supplemental form. One of the requirements in the transfer form is to have completed coursework for a language other than English but I have not taken any in Community College. Will this affect my chances?
thanks, guys!
If you have two years in high school (same language) you can use that as long as the last term was at least a C. I would mention it in the additional comments. If you did high school in another country, the language cannot be the language of instruction.
As you are not using IGETC (the GE path for CA CC), you will probably need to fulfill the L&S language req before you graduate from Cal, which I believe is an extra course beyond the 2-year hs. I’m saying this off the top of my head, so could be wrong. After transferring you can probably get your native language tested by a Berkeley prof and get signed off that way.
BTW, also mention your fluency in your native language in the additional comments.
All that said, unless your major requires language to be completed before transferring as a junior, language itself is not a requirement to transfer.
One last thing - I hope you took two English composition courses. The UCs worry about English fluency with non-native speakers and being international at an OOS college could be a minor issue.
Does anyone know if augmented review still applies? and does it apply to transfers? I tried to find out myself but no luck so far.
Yes there are some, as far as I know. Not every UC does it. I wouldn’t sit around waiting for it or worrying, as getting one is probably not that likely. They used to always do it just by rote if you mentioned disability. Not sure if still true.
My daughter says her portal has just the general ed /breadth link to the form asking which way you are fulfilling it…IGETC etc . But there is no TAU type link there. Wondering if anyone here has it on theirs? Thanks
The UC application site says it should be up tomorrow.
@Joseph590 sorry I don’t think my question was clear. I don’t mean the TAU on the actual UC application portal and yes that is tomorrow . I meant the form that is typically required on the Berkeley applicant portal . There is a general ed form and typically a form where you basically acknowledge that you will be or have already filled out the TAU on UC portal. My daughters Berkeley portal only showing GE form right now.
It’s either going to show up tomorrow or maybe they dumped it. It was pretty redundant. More so than the other forms.
Has anyone already received the email to input fall grades/ TAU on MAP?
I already submitted mine. @thatsmylatte
@thatsmylatte yes i already submitted too
Does anyone else have four addresses showing up on their portals?
Thank you so much!
I took Arabic language for 3 years while I was in junior high school but that was between 2011 - 2013, so, I don’t know if that is still valid. However, I took Malay, my native language, for 5 full years when I was in high school so I really hope that could be accepted.
For the English requirement, I already completed 2 English composition class here at my community college and currently, I am taking a Technical Writing class. I also took Toefl IBT last month and score 111 on it. So, I really do hope all that is sufficient for the English Proficiency Requirement. =D
My addresses went back to two, anyone have any ideas?
My applicant portal still only showed one form…the one asking which general ed pattern is being followed…IGETC, UC Pathways etc. Is that all you guys are seeing as well. Maybe they have dumped their version of the TAU( transfer academic update) and just go by the TAU on the UC application now?
@sugarcane1 I guess they dumped it? I emailed them and here’s what they told me: The transfer update is through the UC Application portal. Please refer to the email sent on January 9th.
@thatsmylatte thank you for your response. I’ve completed the UC application TAU and it sounds by what they told you that that is what is needed. It doesn’t make sense anyway to do it twice…once on the Berkeley Portal and also the UC application. Redundant. Guess they aren’t doing it that way this year.
For the UC spring coursework confirmation, I will not have completed the foreign language requirement as I’ve only taken two years of high school foreign language. Should I not submit the form? Or submit, having selected that I will complete foreign language with 3 years of high school foreign language, and note that I’ve only completed two in high school. Thanks!
