[li]Applying to what schools?[/li]UCI, UCSC, UCB, UCLA
So, Iâm in a bit of a dilemma and wanted everyoneâs opinion on it.
So, Iâve applied to Cal as a CC transfer 2 times, once last year (waitlisted) and then again this year. Last year I was attending two community colleges and then this year I ended up only taking classes at one of them.
So, when I applied this year, I applied with only one of the CCâs because I had way too many units with both and because my grades were significantly better in the one I applied with.
Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, I got an email from Cal asking for an immediate response and for me to give them a detailed description of my life from when I graduated HS until Jan 2019 (when I started the CC I applied with). I didnât think anything of it, but when I wrote in the Box I didnât mention my previous CC, only the one I attend now.
Fast forward to today, I got a new immediate response inquiry from them asking for an unofficial transcript from my old CC that I NEVER mentioned on my application.
This scares me for three reasons, one is because I used the same essays as the previous year, two because I donât want them to think I was lying to them and three because I applied with a different major this year.
My GPA at my current CC is a 3.77 and at my old CC it was a 3.5, so you can see why I was so keen on applying with only one. Additionally, I would have applied with 130+ units had I mentioned both and all the forums I was reading said UCâs donât like when youâve gone over and wonât read your application.
What do you guys think I should do and think of the situation? Do you think I wonât be getting in?
@acan123 applications require you to list all colleges attended. Its perfectly ok to apply with more than the max units, they just wont all be counted. What isnât ok is it now looks like you were dishonest in your application. Personally, I donât think this will end well. Maybe thereâs a shred of hope since they are asking for a transcript rather than outright denying you but I wouldnât bet on it. Good luck
@acan123 Yeah, I think you might be out of luck. You donât get to pick and choose which courses are reflected in your GPA and to them itâs going to look like this is what you were trying to do. Schools need to see the entire picture and in this case it seems like you were being completely dishonest. If I were you, I would email admissions and let them know you made a mistake because you didnât think all your units would count. If you have only attended CCCs, it is not possible to be in senior standing, therefore those extra units would not have counted against you. Best of luck to you.
Honestly, youâre screwed. My friend was like you and also lied on his application (it CLEARLY states to INCLUDE ALL SCHOOLS AND GRADES LMAO) and he was rejected from every UC school because of he decided to lie on his application and conveniently not include the second CC he attended. Good luck next year dude my god
Statistically, they are near-zero unless you are In-State at a CSU/UC already. Sorry.
The Cal admissions rep I talked to said that they purposefully recruit CCC students, especially those who were not able to show their greatest selves when applying out of California HS.
If you are a current 4 yr freshman Iâd suggest you transfer to a CC for sophomore year if you are truly dedicated to a chance at Cal. It shows you are willing to give up your friends and partying lifestyle for a greater academic challenge and a part in changing the world.
Think of it this way: You are trying to present evidence that Cal made an error when they rejected you the first time around, and that you are dead-set on ending up there one way or another, by any means.
@acan123 Iâm sure youâve heard enough about the dishonesty around your application but I hope you will do everything to make things right and contact all the UC admission offices you applied to and explain why you did not report your old CC. I wanted to point out that once they have seen that you have lied in the UC Application like this, none of the UC campuses will accept you in the future. Please be careful and I wish you the best of luck!
I just checked assist, and it looks like you could finish one of the additional courses in the summer, if you want to be safe about fulfilling all the transfer requirements. If you havenât already itâd probably help to write them an email about your situation.
