UC Berkeley Haas 2018 Transfer Thread

Hey Guys I forgot to ask the most important question for prospective haas applicants for fall 2019 which includes me: How many units can a transfer take without getting rejected? I know that upto 70 units can be taken to transfer for credit, but i heard that if you take too many units then you can get rejected because of that. I’ll have 79 Units completed with a 3.92 GPA hopefully after spring 2019.

Accepted into haas and my stats were posted previously but I’m going to go a bit more in depth for future applicants now that results are in.
GPA 3.91
Accepted: UCD-ManEcon, UCLA BizEcon, Santa Clara Uni BizAdmin, UCB BizAdmin (Haas)
Pending: USC marshall
All major req’s done except for Macro Econ and Stats (currently taking honors stats)
EC’s: volunteer with an elderly lady to keep her company, volunteer in Sunday school w/ fourth graders, member of my CC’s honors program, board member of the honors club, president & founder of a business club, took a summer class @ Berkeley, presented a research project concerning gentrification’s effect at Stanford
Tips:
-I started writing my essays in June and worked relentlessly over them until the due date. I had 3 haas students, 1 Stanford student, an english professor and my very smart boyfriend  help me. Hours and hours of prayer and dedication were pushed into those essays and I feel like that is what set me apart. Claim your experiences and make them your own, tie in the haas principals, and speak about why you’re passionate about business and what you want to do in the world w/ your major.
-Don’t freak out over the possibility of an interview. This is just another chance to show the admission’s board what you’ve got.
-Let your personality shine through your essays. This year’s supplemental was about humility and I literally quoted Kendrick’s “humble” as a way to prove my point. Show them who you are!
-Don’t wait to take your Calc classes. I spoke to a Haas counselor and she said taking your calc series first leaves a good impression for the admission’s board.
-DO NOT GIVE INTO CONSPIRACY THEORIES. I have lost countless hours of sleep looking into the conspiracy theories posted on the regular UCB transfer thread. Get good grades, get involved in EC’s and volunteer work, write the best essays you can and then BE AT PEACE WITH YOUR EFFORTS. These threads are good for information but they can also be detrimental to mental health.
If you have any questions feel free to pm me. Otherwise, #GoBears!

@GoodAfternoonSir I’ve never heard of getting denied for taking too many units. However, I might add that if you take too many units in classes raging from yoga, to sociology, to business it may look like you don’t have a clear focus on your educational path. If your classes are diversified I would clearly explain why in your essays.

Congratulations to all!!!

I guess I’ll be the first rejection to post… Unfortunately, today is my birthday. I was hoping for a better one. Bummed out but its ok.

All Haas required courses completed last semester (Fall 2017).

3.89 GPA. (had all A’s except for a C in stats).

I took Calc 2 and Stats Fall 2017 but due to family reasons, I had to drop two other classes which resulted in my first two transcript “imperfections” (W’s). Leaving me with only 8 units.

I also did not receive an interview request.

PTK member. I stopped going because the club didn’t really do much and I felt they were just there to make their transfer apps look a little better.

I started my college career, along with my wife, as non-traditional students (age 25) about 3 years ago. I turned 28 today. My wife is dead set on UCD and won’t go anywhere else. I tagged with UCD but she was a few classes short to qualify.

We’ve had a rough last two years emotionally and financially. After we both turned in our UC applications we made the decision for my wife to wait another year to transfer to Davis.

This pushed me to no longer think about Haas this year and not complete the supplemental application. As going to Haas would be too disruptive to our lives (I believed). I was eventually persuaded by a friend to turn in the supplemental app, but unfortunately, it was the last day in January. My supplemental essay sucked. I turned it in anyway as I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and I had already paid my $70. =)

Being 28 and married, no kids. I do work full-time and all but Fall 2017 semesters I was enrolled full-time at my college. I don’t have EC’s from my CCC, but my biggest activity has been my current job. I’ve been doing the kind of work I do since I was 13. Thats over half my life dedicated to what I do. I wasn’t sure if they would view that as a good thing.

I also help my parents with their separate small businesses. Tax/accounting related help. No pay.

My UC App essays were probably an 8/10.

No volunteer work.

What a crazy day today was. I did go watch Avengers Infinity War with my fam today. We were watching the movie during decision time.

Although I am bummed. I feel a huge load off my shoulders. This waiting game is horrible but I’m probably going to go for round two this November and stay at my CCC. Maybe take the next two Math courses and some physics classes for fun… and finish some AA degrees. I’m thinking of taking this Summer semester off, but I’m thinking they might not like that. Hopefully we’re both better prepared next time.

I wish you all the best. And if I’m lucky, I’ll be seeing you all next year…

@kt_ay Our stats sound the same! What SEP class did you take at Cal? Congrats on Haas

@mcmc1234 wow what a resume and story. Please stay encouraged! Non traditional students make collegiate environments more well rounded and holistic so any college would be lucky to have you.

@bslick07 I took GeogN4! Did you happen to receive an acceptance as well?

@FutureHaasBear I did complete all of the requirements for Marshall since it was recommended and even took 2 accounting courses.

I guess I’ll post my stats, but honestly we are all different so I hope all future applicants understand that there is no one size fits all mold

GPA: 4.0
California Community College
Completed all classes required and recommended for Haas & breadths
Two internships. Worked with my family. Student Gov. Research. Mentorship Program. Honors Program. I speak 3 languages. Earned school scholarship and awards.

Essays: I’d say very good.

Had an interview and got accepted. So an interview is NOT a bad sign-- it’s just another chance for you to show your passion about the major, the school, and your future career dreams.

Again, we are all different. So if you don’t have everything some of the accepted applicants have, do not worry.

Hey all,

I am a longtime lurker and wanted to help future applicants.

Accepted!

3.95 GPA

CCC

3 EC’s (work fulltime, volunteer for an environmental group, volunteer with a public interest group)

Untraditional student (26 years old)

Had an interview (which I though went ok, not great)

Took Calc 2 during the spring

Rejected from only UCLA BizEcon

Like @HaasieBear said, every applicant is different. So take the specific stats with a grain of salt.

What helped me is I think is being older and having a longer work experience. Also, i worked on things that were interesting to me, not just business focused. I incorporated the defining principles into all of my essays.

I just want to thank everyone on this thread. It has been really informative and helped me significantly in the transfer process. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!

Congrats to all who got in!! We all worked really hard and it is great to see it paid off. This thread and past Haas threads really helped me out so I want to pass it on.

Accepted: Haas, SJSU, UCSB, UCD, SFSU
Rejected: UCLA BizEcon

CCC
TAP: No
3.95 GPA
Completed 7-course Breadth
I am taking Calc 2 right now, during the Spring Semester
I had an interview (it went ok, not great. I did not dress up, just wore regular clothes)
Work full time, volunteer for two other organizations that I have been involved with for a long time.
26 years old

Like @HassieBear said, every applicant is different and specific stats don’t make or break it. I think what helped me is being a little older and having a longer work experience. I also incorporated the defining principles into all of my essays. Moreover, I am involved in things that I am passionate about and not just business focused.

I actually just got into haas aswell. Is there a Facebook group for haas or transfer students?

I GOT IN! i am still in shock omg so surreal. I think the biggest thing that set me apart was my essays, worked on those essays till i and others were probably sick of them but it paid off.

GPA: 3.88
IGETC: completed
Prereqs: all completed by last fall ( B in macroecon)
Applied: Sac State, UCSC, UCI, UCLA, UCB
Accepted: Sac State, UCSC, UCI, UCLA, UCB
some other stats in my bio!

Congrats to everyone who got in and those who didn’t on surely your abundant other acceptances!! See you guys at precore!!! :)))

Does anyone know how to sign up for precore? :open_mouth: And I have so many things on my task list that don’t seem to be coming off even though I’ve done a few LOL

@businessgirl123 did you have an interview?

Honestly surprised you got rejected from
Berkeley @Ak1097

Status: Rejected due to taking Calculus 2 in last semester.

LOL JUST KIDDING.

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. Everything felt so surreal and I wanted to thank everyone personally in my life for helping me. Congratulations to all you guys who worked ridiculously hard over the past 2-3 years. I will post my stats later on as I had stated so before. I’ll let the future applicants know as of right now which colleges I applied to and got accepted to.

Accepted: UCB Haas, UCLA Bizecon, UCSB Pre-Econ, UCD Managerial Econ, UCI Bus. Admin, UCSD Econ, SJSU Business, USC Marshall. (USC Marshall came in as same day as Haas and it felt crazy while celebrating)
Rejected: Cal Poly OCOB (My theory is that I didn’t fill out the honors/awards section appropriately listing all of my extracurriculars as such so they only saw the GPA. I also appealed and they stated that there was simply no room at all).
Pending: Ross Michigan

Quick Stats:
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0 (Pre-Req currently taking: Calculus 2)
IGETC: Spring 2018

Again, congratulations to all of you. I hope to see you all at Haas and I hope you guys end your semesters strong at your current community colleges.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! Make sure to sign up for precore over the summer so you can knock out two of the three required business electives, plus build a solid network/community before starting in the fall. Recruiting for summer 2019 internships has already started so I would start work on your resume and Linkedin if you haven’t made one already. Good luck on your journey!

@Sirgreatal There’ll be Facebook pages for both Haas and UCB transfer. You’ll be invited or have access to them before long.

@hopesolo When I was accepted, an email went out (I believe) to sign up for PreCore. Definitely do it if it works out for you in terms of finances and scheduling.

As @MikeSauce said, congrats to all. Fall semester comes up quick and recruiting for ABC’s starts before you’ll even get to campus and all the continuing students will be a few steps ahead. So do what you can to best prepare yourself to succeed in getting whatever your target internships might be.

congrats to everyone who got in!! i’ve been following this thread in silence over the past few months and it’s really inspiring seeing so many dedicated people working hard towards their dream.

i’m happy to be your future classmate at haas! naturally, i’m overwhelmed with everything there is to do – specifically housing. anyone who wants to be on campus know where they’re living or are you all in the same boat as me? lol

i’ll definitely be doing pre-core once the email comes out and i’ll be joining the FB page (not sure if that’s out yet?) so maybe i’ll get my housing questions answered there. just thought i’d ask here first.

again, congrats to everyone who is transferring, whether it be haas or another great university!
cheers

@BLK what is the contract they require for grades? Is it C or higher or B or a certain gpa contingent on acceptance or if any one knows?

I didn’t have time to post my stats yesterday, but here they are!

Accepted to Haas

A little background about me: I attended UCSD for about a month until I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Because I wasn’t used to this illness, it took me awhile to get back into remission and I had to withdraw and move back home.

Attended a CCC in the South Bay Area
GPA 3.88 (I got two B’s my first semester but got all A’s after that)
Units completed: 70
Accepted: UCSB Econ, UCSC BizEcon, UCSD Econ, USC Marshall, SCU Leavy, UCB Haas
Rejected: UCLA BizEcon
Pending: Vanderbilt, University of Notre Dame, NYU (not Stern)

Classes in progress for Spring 2018: Cultural Geography, Managerial Accounting, Stats (I was supposed to take it in the summer but I was sick and had to drop-- didn’t get a ‘W’)

EC/work: I wasn’t involved in on-campus activities, but I was very involved in outside activities. Yoga Instructor at Corepower Yoga, On-call Admin for Wimmer Solutions (I was able to work with a lot of tech companies through this and even attended Dreamforce), Lead Host for a top restaurant/bar in the Bay Area, Opened my own Etsy shop where I made/sold rings

Volunteer: Tutor/Teacher Assistant for a Catholic Saturday School

Awards: I didn’t report any bc they were all from high school

Essays: 9.5/10
I definitely spent a good amount of time on all my essays. I had it peer edited by my sisters, friends, and writing coach. I know we hear it all the time…but it’s so true-- what you put in, is what your get out of it. All of my essays connected back to each other, and I think this is what made them strong. My best essay was my struggle with my illness and how I was able to remain in remission through holistic practices (yoga, meditation, mindfulness, healing stones, essential oils,etc.). I won’t get into details about the others, but I wrote about how my Etsy shop came about, the importance of a leader in time constrained environments, and my major.

Supplement: at least a 9.5/10
Resume: 8/10 I didn’t spend too much time on this as I was more focused on my supplemental essay

Interview: I was in the second wave. Very casual, and it very well towards the last 20 minutes, the first 10 minutes were a little shaky to me because I was nervous. Straightforward questions (I recommend practicing the top 10 job interview questions).
