lol. And speaking of “time and energy is better spent focusing on your current coursework” … I’ve got a midterm due in 4 hours and 29 minutes and here I am on CC. Ugh. I’m such a hypocrite. Silver lining is that spring break will officially begin for me once I get that in.
Best of luck to you all. Enjoy April. It seems unusually looonnngggggg when you’re waiting on a certain email.
@briank82 It’s really good to hear from you on this thread. I saw a lot of what you said previous years and appreciate your input. Thanks for taking the time to provide some information!
For others, I also did not receive an interview. I’m a little bummed since I would have loved to meet for an interview, but I guess they’ve already made a decision
I received an invitation for an interview as well.
CCC transfer (LA area): non-international
Major GPA: 4.0 (completed)
UC GPA: 3.93
Extracurriculars and Volunteer: Competitive like everybody else. Executive leadership positions, significant school contributions, a number of volunteer experiences, decent course load while working.
As previously mentioned interviews can be for a number of reasons. Since this is all speculation at this point, to calm everyone’s nerves, here are the results from the 2017 thread for those who disclosed receiving interviews:
I was asked about my passion, why business, how my calculus classes went (that one was a bit odd), what role I can play at haas, how I view leadership, leadership roles I typically take, and my volunteer opportunities.
@Ak1097 I’ll try and do my best
-GPA: 3.9
-All major requirements done but currently finishing up macro Econ (B in calc 2)
-Involved in my honors program since my start date and I hold a position in the club as social ambassador
-took a class at UCB last summer and achieved an A
-conducted a research presentation at Stanford Univeristh through the Bay Honors Consortium Research Symposium
-volunteering at my church with 4th graders in Sunday school and vists an elderly lady to keep her company
-working part time
I’m not a huge fan of posting stats, hence the reason why I didn’t do so intially but here ya go
@Ak1097 but also, Im not too sure that the Q’s were in fact tailored to each individual. My interviewer seemed as if he was taking questions from a pre-composed list. The only Q that might have been specific to me was the one concerning calculus (perhaps bc it’s my only B).
@kt_ay Thanks for the stats Yeah I noticed that he was looking at the list for the questions for me too. Anyway, no point in discussing the interview anymore. All we can do now is waiitttt!! Do you have a second choice should you get rejected by Haas ? Mine’s USC Marshall and then Cal Poly SLO
Do you think these were recorded and will be reviewed over the next month? Or, do you think the interviewer really just provides their input to the committee and it’s more or less the deciding factor? Mine were:
Tell me about yourself
Can you tell me a little more about your upbringing?
Why Haas?
Tell me a time you questioned the status quo.
And then we just chatted about life at Haas.
Sorry for replying late but I was caught up right after the interview.
Overall the questions were pretty general. I was asked the same questions as Ak1097. I was prepared for most of them since they were pretty general questions like why Haas, tell me about yourself and about your passions type of stuff. Not really specific to my application. Pretty chill for 20 minutes.
Although I don’t understand why you would get asked about Calculus specifically. My interviewer did state that they do not see your application/credentials or anything about you before the interview so I think he/she may have just asked that just for verification or something. Idk.
I honestly don’t know where I’ll go if I get rejected by Haas. Probably SLO or Paul Merage. A lot of my friends went to SoCal after HS graduation so I’d love to go to school with them again. Idk about Marshall though. Heard not many of the units transfer.
I don’t think that there were many applicants this year judging by the amount of posts on here. Good luck to you all though.
@Ak1097 although I did apply to SoCal schools like UCLA and USC id like to stay in/near the Bay Area out of personal preference so I guess my second choice would be University of Santa Clara or take a leap and do managerial Econ at Davis. Keeping my fingers crossed for haas though…
I think everyone in this group has what it takes to be at Haas so I hope we all make it!
@kt_ay IDK for some stupid reason I had not heard about Santa Clara until like last month! Wish I had applied there @BLK I was thinking about the # of applicants yesterday! I guess a lot of people got discouraged by the acceptance rate for “TOTAL” applicants
I hope all of your interviews went well! Sounds like they all asked the same questions, so hopefully everyone had a chance to answer in a pretty unique way and tell their story.
I don’t think the activity of this thread is a good indicator of the applicant pool. I’m sure there are lots of people reading but not engaging in the discussions. This thread only really picked up within the last couple weeks too. Historically the applicant pool has grown year over year for Haas, and in previous threads people came out of the woodwork at the very end to share admittance or rejection.
@Ak1097 Maybe. That’s assuming if every interview was for those who were “around the cusp” which essentially would mean everyone is the same at this point. I can’t imagine that being the case. Oh, the wait! What sectors is everyone hoping to break into? Anyone trying to minor or double major? Minoring sounds more realistic if you want some sort of social life. I thought about LA, but then I remembered how much I love that city… Anyone apply to the ivies?
